  1. Thanks for the great gift ideas!

We also like to shop for Hawaiian gifts at the Don Quixote and Sam’s Club. Costco for their reusable “Aloha” themed shopping bags for ourselves and as gifts too.

The local craft fairs or festivals like the Okinawan Festival in Oahu are also great for local hand crafted dichroic or sea glass jewelry. Or go there to eat the andagi and other food… Too bad we can’t take the andagi back home!

And the Hawaiian pineapples are so much better/sweeter than the ones we get at our local So Cal grocery stores; so we will sometimes buy several pineapples at Costco or Sam’s (cheaper than buying them from Doles) on the last days of our visit and haul those back home!

  2. A lot of the ideas provided were great unfortunately most of that is made overseas and shipped in from China. I suggest visiting farmers markets and looking for crafted items that are made locally in Hawaii. Food items and other things made by local artisans are much better than some of the junk found around town.

  3. Have made several trips to Kauai (my sister lives in Kalaheo). Favorites are: local artwork/prints from Art House in Old Koloa town, video of our Wings Over Kauai plane tour (fixed wing, not helo), beautiful print note cards from one of the small art stores in Hanapepe, sunrise shells (among others) picked up off the beach, Aloha shirts (Costco has a good selection of locally made), and my wife likes her hula chicken dashboard doll.

  4. We look for something made on the islands. On Kauai, Aunty Lilikoi Passion Fruit Products including puree to re-create Monkeypod lilikoi foam for the mai tai; Kauai cookies which I saw a bakery near Hanapepe; Wild Kauai chocolate in Wailua area. On Maui, products from the Ali’i Lavender Farm or the pineapple wine from MauiWine in the Kula area; widely variable are the smaller sampler-size Ocean Vodka in the blue “float shape.”

  5. There are shops in almost every town that carry local handmade gifts. Just ask around, we’d love to share! Please consider supporting Island-based artists on your trip.

  6. I just ran across this as we are planning our first trip to Hawaii and we are so excited. We will be on the Big Island for 2 weeks and I was looking for gift ideas. Thank you so much for these.

  7. My favorite was a Hawaiian-print lunch bag from a Foodland grocery store. It makes me think of the Big Island every day!

  8. Thank you for your wonderful ideas. Being a long time visitor to the Islands and former long time resident. I always take your advice. I usually bring back coffee, family and friends love it, also calendars. I always have them hanging in my home, and bring them back for friends.

Thanks again, will certainly help those on their first visit to beautiful Hawaii!

    1. Yes indeed! When we travel, we have often found that gifts of ‘mac nuts and coffee from the Sandwich Isles’ are excellent icebreakers and thank yous!

  9. Pandora beads made exclusively for each island. You can also buy s bead that says Hawaii to cover all the islands.
