  1. Hi Beat of Hawaii,

I am looking to travel around the time period of June 20, 2016 to week of July 4, 2016. I will be departing from San Diego and traveling to Oahu. Does $651.00 sound reasonable, or should I wait it out?

    Thank you,
    Al

    1. If my family of 6 wants to travel to Kona Hawaii on March 19-March 26th 2016 how much am I going to pay per person and how soon should I buy?

      Thank you

  2. Hi, family of 4 flying out of San Diego to HNL Sunday April 24 and returning Thursda April 28. Non stop flights (which i really want) are running around $468 right now. Should I buy now or will that price for a non stop drop? This is our first time flying to HNL.

    Thanks

  3. My wife and I would like to go to either Kona Hi. or Kauai The first part of November. When would be the best time to purchase tickets, now or wait till when? What price difference is there between the flights to these islands?

    1. Hi Tom,

Kona or Kauai will probably be equally priced. Not the time to buy for November, as indicated in post. In honestly, we’ll know when we know. Best to just subscribe to our email updates.

      Aloha.

  4. Hello,

I want to fly to Oahu mid April for a week from SEA and my friend is flying from RDU.

Kayak shows cheapest is around $500 for SEA and RDU is at almost $900. Just wondering if you think this is the lowest it will be? Or should we wait a month to see if these prices drop?

    Thanks!

    1. Hi Katherine,

We haven’t seen lowest fares for after spring break so those may very well improve. Those should happen reasonably soon – next 30-60 days.

      Aloha.

  5. Hello, we are going to Kona June 23-28 for the Kona marathon. Right now flights are $1053/person from Albuquerque. Should we look at booking from LA or Oakland and then figure out how to get from Albuquerque to either of those cities? If we wait until March to book will that be bad?

    1. Hi Amanda,

Fares for exact dates start at $965 with two stops and $1030 with great connection and one stop on AA. It probably will not improve but also not get worse if you wait.

      Aloha.

      1. I just checked AA as I have been all day and now the flight from Albuquerque to Kona is $1306/person. Why do they change the rates?

        1. Hi Amanda,

Oh yes, isn’t that fun (not). The airlines typically change rates 2 or more times every day. It does keep us on our toes.

          Aloha.

  6. Family (4 of us) traveling to HNL and onto MKK May 19-29 from SMF. Right now fares about $2700 for multi-city ticket (spending time in HNL before going to MKK). Should I wait a month or so to see if fares drop?

    1. Hi Erin,

$571 SMF-HNL has the potential to come down by about $125 per person. How long to wait is dependent on when the airlines decide to change rates. HNL-MKK probably won’t change at about $140 RT.

      Aloha.

    1. Hi Leilani,

Per post, that is the price to be expected. A bit less from most competitive cities like bay area.

      Aloha.

  7. Hello,

Looking to travel to Waikoloa April 20-29th from Houston. I cannot find any flights under 10 hours, $806 RT and nothing direct. Any suggestions or is this the best I should expect?

    Thanks!!

    1. Hi Kim,

Suggest waiting. Having said that, pricing today starts at $785 on specific dates, or $675 if you leave and return a day earlier. Fastest routing costs more (a relatively new invention from the airlines). So with only one stop in LA and 10 total hours, $903.

      Aloha.

  8. Aloha!

Fantastic guide full of wonderful information. My family of 4 will be returning to the islands for a reunion late May but won’t be flying back until late June. I understand the return is in high season and we’re pretty much out of luck there. To date however, we are only finding flights $880+ with horrific layovers (over 7hrs some up to 15). We will be flying from Central Florida and I was wondering if we can expect more flights to become available this spring, reducing the layovers and cost, or if we should be happy with what we can find now and make the best of it?

    Mahalo nui loa!

    Damian

    1. Hi Damian,

Yes the $868 fare on Alaska has an overnight layover which is grueling. Most direct is United (12 elapsed hours total) for $1,048. If you wait a month or two it could get a little better inasmuch as the outbound may be cheaper. No guarantee, just a gut feeling.

      Aloha.

  9. Hello,

My fiancé and I will be honeymooning in Maui and Kauai from June 5th-18th. Departure city is Springfield, Kansas City, or Tulsa flying to Kauai, Kauai to Maui, Maui to Springfield on the 18th. Tickets are around 1550 currently. Should I book tickets or wait ? Is there a risk of prices rising ?

    Thanks!

    Darren

    1. Hi Darren,

We found prices starting at about $1,300 and up. Depending largely on layover time. It doesn’t seem prices can go up from that. However availability on the return might be problematic. Tough one to call unfortunately.

      Aloha.
