  1. I live in mililani, Oahu & one night decided to go for a drive up past Wahiawa to the pineapple & sugar cane fields. Just driving around to enjoy the night & got a little lost. Made a U-turn somewhere and my while my headlights were shining on the tall grass there was a white owl! So amazing to see. Makes sense that it was a barn owl since it was white & hunts for mice in the field at night. 1st & only sighting so far. Will never forget it

  2. I was on the big Island of Hawaii and had the privilage of seeing one of these gorgeous birds in Volcanoes National Park. I love the islands. Mahalo for sharing.

  3. I saw a Peuo yesterday off the Kalanianaole hwy going to Makapuu. Didn’t even know we had owls on Oahu. What a beautiful sight.

  4. We are guests on Kauai. Two mornings in a row, very early, 6am-ish, we have been awed by an owl flying directly past our balcony-we are pretty sure she is Pueo. Just magic.

  5. On my birthday I saw the owl. I thought what sign was God giving me ,since you normally don’t see them too often.
A year ago my husband found a dead owl in our 100 gal water tank. It drown while getting water to drink. It sadden my heart dearly.

  6. We have Pueo in Kalaheo. Before moving here, on one of many visits years ago I had my first close encounter with a huge owl that appeared to be white – that was 1995. Since then, I moved to the same land where I spotted that owl and have since seen them often up on our hill – mostly at night – but sometimes mid -day cruising the fields for a snack! A sighting always leaves me in awe ~ and very grateful for the visit!

My wife and I live in the homesteads and I would love the opportunity to photograph these. I’m hoping to find a location to take photos at a distance where I don’t disturb them but can get beautiful pictures. It appears you have seen them on occasion and maybe we could talk story about some locations if you have any ideas of where I may be able to go. I would appreciate any direction or thoughts.

      1. Saddle road for sure. Seen 3 of them on my drive to Hilo! I wanna say they fly in the open area nearest to the bottom of Saddle heading to Kona. Hope that helps 😊

  7. I actually saw a few while I was on Molokai last November. In one of the sightings the owl was just sitting on the side of the road. I pulled over to see if it was hurt and whenI got out of my car it just flew away. It was awesome to be that close to one. 3 out of the 4 that I saw were just after dark.
