10K Free Miles or $100 from Alaska Airlines

If you’re an Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan member and also a Virgin America Elevate member, here’s some great and generous news. “You’re about to get 10,000 miles or $100 off.”

You may recall we suggested joining Virgin’s Elevate program nearly a year ago. If you did that, and have or create an Alaska membership this month as well, head over to your mileage statement for the possibility of a pleasant surprise. Note: This worked for us.

Apparently some members were offered a choice of 10,000 bonus miles or $100 off any Alaska-operated flight. We both had 10,000 bonus miles deposited in our Mileage Plan accounts and were not offered any option. Since we think of airline points as being worth about one cent each, it’s perhaps an equally good value, either way.

Further according to a email from Ryan Butz, Alaska’s Managing Director of Loyalty Marketing – “This is the beginning of a new level of service you’re really going to enjoy.”

Other Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan changes:

As a result of the merger with Virgin America, Alaska’s relationship with Delta Airlines is being terminated.

In addition, Alaska reduced mileage requirements on short flights. Round trips are now starting at 10,000 miles.

If you’re a frequent flyer MVP or above on Alaska, there are other changes too. Suggest you check on those here.

Note: We can’t be sure that everyone received this offer. We hope that you did too. Let us know.

  1. I received 10000 miles as I was already Elevate member, then transferred my elevate mile to Alaska. Picked up about 14,000 in a couple of minutes.

  2. I have been an Virgin America elevate member for a few years and am an Alaska Mileage Plan member too but I did not get any bonus miles.

  3. Sadly, this did not work for me either. I logged in to each account, and even added the Virgin America number to my Alaska profile. Nada. Oh well…

  4. Yep! Just checked! Like you, I was not given a choice, however, I did get 10,000 points. Thanks for this post!

  5. I was already an Alaska Airlines rewards member when I took your suggestion to sign up for an Elevate account, and it totally worked for me! I had 10,000 miles added to my Alaska account just 5 days ago, and yes they did send me an email to let me know. Thank YOU!

    1. Just to be clear – 1) we did not receive an email. 2) the miles were credited to Alaska Airlines Mileage Plan, not Virgin America.

      Aloha.
