As Hawaii travel continues to shift, 2025 may bring more opportunities for lower airfare if you know where to look. Recent flash sales and promos from major airlines point toward increased competition, with Hawaiian Airlines, Southwest Airlines, and even Delta Air Lines showing moves worth watching.
A pre-holiday flash sale from Hawaiian Airlines.
Hawaiian Airlines just launched a one-day flash sale offering 15% off flights to and from Hawaii with promo code HELLO2025. Go to Hawaiian Airlines and insert the code when you make a reservation. While it’s far from a deep discount, it, together with other signs, hints at a trend travelers may see more of in 2025: short-term Hawaii airfare deals with enough savings to entice early bookings in periods when needed by airlines.
The deal applies to Main Cabin Basic, Main Cabin, and Main Cabin Refundable fares. Bookings must be made today, December 17, 2024, between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. HST, for travel between January 6 and February 12, 2025. Use promo code HELLO2025 when you make a reservation on the Hawaiian website.
Key restrictions include specific travel days to Hawaii from Sunday through Wednesday, while travel from Hawaii is limited to Tuesday through Friday. The discount applies only to the base fare and excludes taxes and fees.
While 15% off isn’t groundbreaking, it’s a modest bonus for travelers already thinking about a winter island getaway. Please let us know if this offer works for you.
Southwest Airlines offers a better points deal for Hawaii travel.
Southwest Airlines offers up to 25% off Rapid Rewards award redemptions, making this promotion, at least in theory, more valuable than Hawaiian Airlines’ offer. This deal is valid for bookings made through December 19, 2024, using the promo code POINTS25.
The travel period for this discount varies based on the destination. Interisland Hawaii travel is valid from January 7 through March 5, 2025. Mainland to and from Hawaii flights are available through May 22, 2025.
Blackout dates apply, including during spring break travel periods. Flights to Hawaii are blacked out from February 13–16 and March 7–April 19, 2025, while return flights from Hawaii are unavailable from February 21–23 and March 14–April 27, 2025.
Southwest is clearly not done with Hawaii, and that remains evident. This deal allows their frequent travelers to stretch points 25% further.
Delta signals intentions from Seattle.
While Delta’s sale doesn’t include Hawaii routes, it is relevant nonetheless as it reflects growing competition with Alaska/Hawaiian Airlines that Hawaii travelers should watch closely. Delta has launched a Delta One business class flash sale on award flights starting at 98k SkyMiles one-way for select international routes, including between Seattle and Asia, where Hawaiian will soon be flying.
The sale runs through December 19, 2024, for travel between January and May.
While Delta’s immediate focus isn’t on Hawaii per se, their emphasis on Seattle as a hub for transpacific routes signals its intentions to compete head-to-head with Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines in the greater Pacific market. For Hawaii travelers, this could clearly hint at future fare competition as Delta determines how it will increase its presence.
What these flash deals mean for 2025.
These promotions may not seem groundbreaking on their own, but taken together, they definitely point to an increasingly competitive landscape for Hawaii travel next year. That in itself is fascinating.
Hawaiian Airlines is using targeted flash sales to encourage early bookings. Southwest Airlines continues to aggressively promote its Hawaii flights with award savings that beat the competition. Delta Air Lines is signaling a renewed focus on Seattle, positioning itself as a challenger to Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines.
For travelers, this means keeping an eye out for more flash sales, deeper award travel discounts, and competitive pricing as airlines vie for dominance in Hawaii’s skies.
