  1. Continued.

It seems lawmakers are catering to billionaires, making things simple for them to enjoy and profit from these magnificent islands, the rest of us poor slobs be damned.

Me? I’d rather hang with regular folks any day. People who I can express my awe over the aina with, learn the culture from.

Hawaiian words have such deep and gorgeous layered meanings. I don’t think I’d learn about that on the golf course where the billionaires hang.

  2. Quote from article, “Green has never been an outspoken advocate of U.S. visitors to Hawaii.”

The governor is not Hawaiian-born, right?

I don’t understand the mentality of outsiders “discovering” beautiful Hawaii, and then wanting to close the doors behin them, letting no one else in. That’s a heartbreak.

  3. Just one question. How much did he pay Forbes to give him the award?!
Mahalo BOH for always helpful reporting.

  4. After Forbes was sold in ’23 , the new owner Austin Russell took an already deteriorating Business Magazine and made it a personal platform to interject his beliefs. It has now become a garbage magazine which has zero credibility to readers whom relied on its content.
Governor Green winning an award for anything but incompetence is a joke.

  5. Damned if he does and damned if he doesn’t! I am in the vacation rental business and even though I don’t agree with everything Gov Green has done or has said, I believe he is acting out of the best interests for Hawaii and all its people, giving equal voice and attention to the local working population of this state. At the rate we are losing our local families, something had to be done and I am thankful that we have Josh Green at the helm!!!

  6. Seriously!, the governor is not deserving of an award. He has crippled the Lahaina people with his delay, his poor leadership and general nasty attitude. He just keeps pointing the finger to blame everyone, but himself. He has created the adversarial stance towards tourists, as well as, the folks who own property in Maui, who also feel that Maui is their home and has been for many years (part-time or full-time, doesn’t matter). They aren’t tourists anymore; they pay their taxes and dues as a local. I truly believe absolutely anyone else would have been drinking lemonade by now and wouldn’t have offended so many and caused years of harm as Green has done.

  7. Wow! What an article. Any respect I had for. Forbes just evaporated in thin air. Green will probably have a key made for the governor’s office to give to them for this.

  8. The Governor is following the age-old marketing adage: “Talk about me good, talk about me bad – just talk about me. I win.” Judging from the comments it seems to be working. That tactic sucks the air out of the room leaving not much left to talk about, but everyone remembers the name. The trick is to keep coming up with more outrageous comments or deeds to top the last ones and go right back to the top of the heap.

  9. Green will do anything to regain the trust (and votes) of “my people”.
Including housing non documented victims to the tune of 28M/month.
The spending to quote legislators is “out of control”
He’s on the road to bankrupt the state and he gets this apparently, meaningless award.

    1. Sorry to disagree, but the state is still operating in a surplus, Green managed to transfer over $50M over to the feds in fire recovery relief and is operating with compassion for those permanently displaced. Legislators, on the other hand, were advocating long-term solutions including trailers and tent cities. Where’s the aloha in that? It’s the legislators seeking to line their pockets and favor donors instead of doing what’s right for the people.

  10. What a joke. We have visted the islands for years and supported local small businesses. That includes those individuals who have a 2nd home on the Haiwaian Islands. All this man does is to support big corporations, hotel chains and deal blow after blow to the families that want to share their homes by renting them out while they are not there. Is he trying to make the Hawaiian Islands for the rich and famous? We are now considering Flordia and the Caribean as future vacation spots. Due to all the additional taxes and fees he is proposing.

    1. It doesn’t surprise me that Governor Green would pay Forbes to present him an award. The lengths he goes to trying to manipulate the public is surprising. I understand that the “paying Forbes” is the new process, which is confirmed through Wiki leaks. And just for Josh Green’s information, the definition of a wildfire is one caused by environmental issues such as a volcano or lightening, in a remote rural area, not a power line falling down near a school in a residential area, where a fire department failed to deal with it properly. Green thinks he can manipulate people to believe him if he repeats misinformation. I don’t want to burden the fire department but Gov Green put everyone in an awkward position with all the lies

  11. What a joke. This clown is single-handedly decimating the tourism industry. Until the Hawaiian voters realize that promoting incompetence is a losing bet, they will continue with this type of radical authoritarian rule. Good luck with the legal bills when a lot of his decrees head to the Supreme Court.

Concerning the Governor deserving the Forbes Resilience in Tourism Award, one only needs to quote the Governor himself “this is bullsh**.
That would make a great tshirt and bumper sticker. this needs to happen and monies made can go straight to the Natives.

    12
  13. Ho yeah thats right China does own Forbes so now they are going to own Hawaii, dont know what the Japanese will think about that.

    9
  14. why are they not just rebuilding the natives peoples homes on Their own properties? it doesn’t take long to rebuild. or is the gov and the rich land grabbing the Natives lands in the first place? looks like it with the fires and non existent fire department and fire hydrants, plus no warnings whatsoever and the fact that the governor dislikes Americans as well. does not surprise me since its the same on the Mainland Americain reservations.

    5
  15. Nope. he doesn’t deserve anything. he is just making Hawaii more expensive for the non rich by catering to the hotels and rich landowners all the while destroying the Natives.

  16. Been a subscriber to Forbes for 50+ years. Auto renewed back in December. Tried to cancel subscription; “Subscriptions may only be cancelled within 30 days of renewal”. Cancelled auto renew. Changed mailing address to that of city jail.

  17. I’m curious (but not ‘yellow’!) about Gov. Green’s attitude towards vacation rental owners. It almost seems as though he is advocating for virtual expropriation of private property to house the newly homeless. Why not go at the big resorts that charge mega-bucks for rooms and insist they house the poor victims of the Lahaina fire as a ‘community service? Wouldn’t that be more ‘efficient’? Or do those rich hotel corporations not like the idea and don’t want to lose all that 100s of millions they haul in every month in exchange for state controlled rents/supplements for the victims of the fire? Enquiring minds would like to know!

      1. He knows who butters his bread. Just another sign of a corrupt politician picking donor money for the public.

        15
    1. you can’t really live in a hotel? There are no laundry facilities, bedrooms, or kitchens? You need at least an apartment style living.

      2
  18. Green may be the most incompetent politician I’ve seen in my 64+ years. His government (not entirely his fault, but he’s the governor) failed on every level the people of Maui during and after the fire as well as the messaging. Thank the lord he is not practicing medicine. I think it’s clear why.

  19. Remember Obama’s Nobel, it was Awarded on Expectation, not Performance, Editor and Staff concur, it was a mistake. To the China owned Forbes, what can one say, has he opened the door to China. From Hawaii Power to the Water Company failure to deliver water to Lahaina, there is much to still be answered for. As to Covid, under Governor Ige the Islands went into Lockdown, Commerce, Revenue and Education were compromised, Covid was only dangerous to a particular demographic Seniors, and Seniors with co-morbidities. Terminating Police and First Responders as well as Hospital Staff was a foolish decision. This appears a paid advertorial to make himself look better, then was the performance.

    20
    1. Randall R,
Sir as a front line worker I think you need to fact check about your misinformed statement about COVID 19.
It is a virus that can and still does take the lives of individuals without regard to political affiliation, age, sexual orientation etc. Please understand I am not attacking you only the misinformation. Be safe and take good care. Aloha

  20. How appropriate – a magazine that bases their editorial content on $$$, giving an award to a governor who makes his decisions the same way.

    21
  21. I think it’s BullS*#* as the governor not so kindly put. Governor Green has consistently attacked tourists and those who own here. He has done nothing for tourism given the tourism tax hikes. In fact tourism is down because of his seesawing back and forth. Let’s face it tourism drives the Hawaii economy.

    28
  22. YGTBSM… Clearly not a local. A local would be doing their best to grow the economy and provide jobs, security, and a decent living for the other locals. Not pandering to off island interests…

    JMHO…

  23. Is this a parody? If it weren’t so pathetic it would be funny. He cr*ps on the citizens of his own country yet is courting Japanese visitors? How out of touch. In case he’s not aware the US dollar is strong against the Japanese Yen. With prices in Hawaii soaring there will be less Japanese coming the islands and more Americans heading to Japan… I’m headed there, leaving in two weeks!

  24. Mahalo, evidently KEVIN C didn’t read the rules. His post is a typical bully post, degrading everyone he sees as not believing exactly as he does

  25. What a joke for a totally incompetent self centered leftist Governor Green! Award for leadership?!?! You’ve got to be kidding. Forbes ain’t what it used to be that’s for sure!!!

  27. Hmmm! How would Green have felt, some years ago, if Hawai’i said ” go back to PA, you are not welcome here”?

He has truly (deliberately) forgotten this Is the Aloha State. 🌺

    God bless.
