  1. West Maui is not an amusement park that can be opened or closed at will. It is a part of a state that exists in the “free” country of the USA. West Maui has full/part/visitor residents just like anywhere else. It has people that work in local businesses and tourism, and people that need those businesses. West Maui was Never closed. The loss in Lahaina Town, while terrible, does not mean that the rest of the world will stop. Grieving does not put food on the table for families. We have had guests in west Maui since Sept. These guests have put money in a supported the local economy that will in turn support the rebuild. There is no reason that life should not go on for the rest of us while we still respect the loss in Lahaina town.

  2. As a Marriott Lifetime Titanium with over 3,900 room nights, I and most other frequent hotel guests among my business acquaintances generally prefer the freedom to opt in or out of housekeeping services as needed or not needed, often depending on the evening’s occasional need to be the venue for a private evening group meeting. 3. Mike M: I’m so sorry this has happened to you. All the things you say are true. So then do we think that these individuals are getting paid by the state to remain closed?
