Utopia Found | Hawaii By Old Dominion

Hawaii has been found by Old Dominion, the renowned American country music band formed in Nashville, Tennessee. The band is known for country-contemporary music with some vibes.

Check it out below with beautiful Hawaii visuals. We are happy to hear in the comments that you are enjoying this as much as we did.

Their latest song, Hawaii, seen in the YouTube video below, is about yearning to return to these islands expressed as “wish we could go back to island time.”  The harmonic sounds are warm and mellow and are accompanied by the ukulele and guitar.

The picture painted is that of paradise found, replete with “drinking pineapple rum out of a coconut, by the ocean” with references to Elvis. The song is part of an upcoming album being released next month. “Back on the mainland, things aren’t the same” they sing. “We should have stayed… wondering why we ever left Hawaii.”

An invitation to paradise

While Hawaii’s travel restrictions may have kept some of you away during COVID, others, like Old Dominion, took advantage of the chance to visit and fall in love with the islands.

  1. It’s not the worst song but it certainly is NOT country music. It’s become hard to distinguish one pop country band/artist from another. They’re not any more country than Taylor Swift but at least she doesn’t claim to be country anymore. The funny thing is Hawaii played a big role in influencing country and western music . The steel guitar was invented in Hawaii and became a big part of country music but it’s all about the hip hop beat now and country rap(AKA CRap) I’ll stick with my Bruddah IZ, god rest his soul. What a voice. He actually could sing and truly worshiped these magnificent islands. There are so many better songs by others that pay tribute to these great Islands instead instead of singing about pink umbrellas in their High Life. And if you truly appreciate country music, his version of Take Me Home Country Roads blows this Old Dominion song away. youtu.be/s6btdW9CPHE

  2. Loved the song and the video. I will be adding the song to my “Hawaii Vacation” playlist. We were in Maui this past March and this makes me ache to return to the islands as soon as possible. Thanks BOH for all you do, your tips are so helpful!

  3. Love Old Dominion and this song! Thanks for sharing! Headed to Kauai to visit my daughter in December and can’t wait. Will continue to read the daily BOH for travel info and suggestions. Very helpful…thanks!

  4. Just returned from Hawaii Wednesday and this makes me want to come back already! My favorite place in the world!

  5. Thank you so much for sharing this – so evocative of the beautiful Hawaiian islands – soothes the soul when I can’t be there…

  6. Meh. This song simply reaffirms everything that’s bad about contemporary country music. It has the word “Hawaii” in it… that doesn’t make it noteworthy.

  7. Had our 10th trip to Hawaii cancelled due to covid this past spring. Liked this song and scenery so much (especially Na Pali coast) that I sent this email to our granddaughter in college who was with me on the helicopter. Thanks for posting the video.

  8. My husband and I saw Old Dominion
at an outdoor concert on Maui at the MACC. It was pouring rain but NO ONE left. The music was great and everyone stayed to hear the entire concert. They are now our favorite band! Thank you for sharing this new song – can’t wait for the new album!

Thanks. We must not have realized they performed at the MACC. Great to hear others like them too.

      Aloha.

  9. Just want to tell you yet again how very much your newsletter has helped us plan our trips to Maui and Kaui – once this year and 2 planned for next year. Your Covid and general tourist info is invaluable.. And the great fun I get from the things you share – like the fantastic video by Old Dominion. MAHALO to two wonderful guys.

    1. Hi Jennifer.

It must be a feel-good day – thank you for saying that. As mentioned to Mike, we were afraid we might be the only ones who related to it and are happy to hear that isn’t the case.

      Aloha.
