The next phase of the Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines integration plan has just landed for visitors. As a result, Hawaii travelers booking flights across both carriers may now have an easier experience, with one caveat, which we’ll explain in detail below.
While the latest collaboration is still in its early stages, this isn’t just a standard code-sharing agreement; it’s among the first steps of a deeper integration. It’s already enhancing the travel experience for those buying tickets and heading to the islands.
Hawaii travelers can now see flight options for both carriers through either airline’s website. As a result, about 50% of all flights to and from Hawaii are now visible and for sale, no matter which airline website you choose. It’s among the first steps toward an integrated airline experience.
Image below is how the Alaska airlines website showed the Hawaiian Airlines flight.
More flexibility in purchasing comes with a caution advisory from us.
On the plus side, you’ll view a broader range of routes, frequencies, and timing options across Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian. You no longer need to bounce between these websites to find the best flights.
On the negative side, booking a Hawaiian Airlines flight on Alaska Airlines revealed different results. The Hawaiian site had four fare options – basic economy, economy, refundable economy, and first class. However, only a single economy fare option was available on the Alaska site.
Since this collaboration is new, fares might change, or other fares could be available, potentially leading to better deals on one website or the other. Check both websites in the short term to find the most competitive pricing options for your Hawaii flights.
We hope to see more options revealed soon, as cross-website frequent flyer redemption wasn’t available when we checked today.
Our thoughts about making the best use of this new feature.
Be flexible with your flight selection. Mix and match flights from both airlines to find the best routes, schedules, and prices that work for you. This can help you access more convenient travel options.
Stay updated on further integration features ahead. As Alaska and Hawaiian continue to join forces, we’ll watch for updates regarding loyalty programs. The ability to earn and redeem miles across both airlines is coming together to add significant value to your travel experience. See Finding Your Strategy Following Merger of Alaska/Hawaiian Miles.
The Alaska and Hawaiian Airlines partnership marks the ongoing evolution of this airline merger. As the collaboration continues to grow, we can expect more changes and enhancements.
Please let us know if this new update meets your expectations and what adjustments you want to see.
Interesting – I went to Alaska’s website to check for flights from PHX to Kona for May 2025. Hawaiian has this flight already, with a layover in Honolulu. Alaska doesn’t fly directly to Hawaii from Phoenix. All 15 flights are on Alaska and go Phoenix-Seattle-Kona or Phoenix-Portland OR-Kona. No Hawaiian flights came up. So, I checked for December 2024 flights. Same results. I’ll chalk it up to it being a “work in progress”. On the positive side, there are 4 levels of fares showing…
“about 50% of all flights to and from Hawaii are now visible and for sale”- BOH
Whoa-it can’t be good a good sign for airfares if one airline is monopolizing half of all Hawaii flights, can it?
Hi Rob.
We get your point.
Aloha.
Seems no doubt HA site is better.
A point missed in this very anticompetive merger is just how high fares are within AK and WA. AS’s mo is to create a monoploy then the skys is the limit on how fares can go(ie hunders of $’s for a 1 hr flight). The inter island fares are set to sky rocket now that the merger has been allowed.
A downside to this merger is the loss of 2 bags on international routes. Going to Tahiti, you are only allowed one luggage now. Not a plus for sure.
When is this collaboration supposed to start? I tried to both Hawaiian and Alaska sites but didn’t see Hawaiian on Alaska’s site nor Alaska on Hawaiian’s site.
Hi Margo.
Those are available now, and we’ll add a screen shot to reflect how it appears.
Aloha.
