Elephant in the room is also the increased property taxes for non-owner occupied increased significantly.
I don’t see what the problem is. Hawaii wants to limit access by tourists and that’s exactly what these large land purchases accomplish. These wealthy celebrities are not doing anything illegal and if it is a problem for Hawaii residents, they are entitled to put laws into place to prevent these transactions. I don’t see the current government rushing to do that. We all want a yard to call our own— these celebrities’ yards just happen to be bigger than most. For the most part, they are responsible land owners and are not stripping or clear cutting their properties, but taking care of their land. There’s enough land left for everyone to enjoy.
Regarding Celebrities in Hawaii, you have completely overlooked Sales Force owner Marc Benioff. He funded the Hilo Hospital so his name would be on it. (Queens declined the offer). He is building “self help” housing off Kawaihae Road (Makai of Waimea) & he is building a high end community project below it for his wealthy friends. He has bought up quite a few Waimea Properties (residential & commercial) & supposedly more on the Kohala coast. Some people in the community think he is the second coming but many don’t trust him. His actions are worthy of continued monitoring. I know he has been coming to the Kohala Coast for over 20 years. You also left off the hugh properties around & Mauka of Four Seasons. These communities are all wealthy mainlanders.

While some of your facts might be right about Benioff, I think you are off on a few. You can like or dislike, but before stating as fact it would be best if you provided accurate facts.
Zuckerberg and Chan just contributed several million dollars to build affordable housing in Hanalei. They are good Kauai neighbors.
