  1. With all due respect, we have heard ducks pass wind under water before! How about this from the governors office “we understand we have gone back on our word before, and to show we are serious, my administration will work without pay for the remainder of my time in office”
One other question; Give us one good reason this cant happen two weeks from today? Just one!
I hope the economy recovers quickly and the businesses open and their employees will prosper and thrive!

  2. I suspect that kawakami will not lift the 14-day mandatory quarantine on Kauai when Oahu does (10/15). That’s why he promoted and is pursuing the resort bubble concept – and just came out with his own statement supporting resort bubbles. Ige indicated a month or two ago that neighbor islands may be able to have different quarantine policies. If all the mayors are on the same page with Ige, why spend an ounce of energy planning resort bubbles if reopening is just 30 days away? Answer: Because, on Kauai at least, a general reopening isn’t happening anytime soon.

      1. Hi Bill.

We do not believe that is the case. There is an agreement that the counties will not make any such decisions without approval from the governor.

        Aloha.

  3. I don’t understand why restaurants cannot follow X-ing off tables that shouldn’t be used and leaving every other table open for use. Easy peasy right?

  4. So Hawaii is reopening October 15 that is great news and the start of the covid19 test program for pre travel.
Do you think Hawaii will open October 15 as announced.
    Thank you
P.s keep me updated as we get closer to reopening October 15

  5. Hello and thank you for all the timely updates BOH !

I have one question: how will all airlines servicing the islands from all different states make uniform this new decree ? That is, what if people do not want to test and plan on “quarantining” for 14 days – perhaps they are staying for 30 – and are asymptomatic on the long plane flight ? Or will all different airlines allow anyone on board if passengers DON’T test ?

Looking forward to your reporting. Thank you.

    1. Hi Max.

In the last update to the post, we just addressed that specifically. Let us know if you have more questions or thoughts on that.

      Aloha.

  6. What about us Canadians?!? If a test done here in Canada is not accepted, is there a way to go to the US, get tested there and then fly to Hawaii?

The question still remains though, what can we do when we get to Hawaii? Will the beaches, restaurants, shops, attractions, etc be open? Otherwise there’s no point going to Hawaii if we can’t go to the beach and everything is closed. 🙁

  7. Please keep an eye out for the International regulations for entry. The USA has one of the highest numbers of cases, so entry from Asian countries should be the same. Testing has been strictly enforced in Asia. NO flights without testing ($10 per test)! The plane is thus full of people who have tested negative. Seems to work well here. Hope Hawaii can look at what is working worldwide and implement it on Oct. 15th. Thanks so much for your good work and professionalism in sifting through the red tape! You are GREAT! I am counting on you so I can visit my kids soon! It’s been too long. Have a good day with the good news!

    1. Hi Nancy.

We appreciate your many comments and had the same thought in our minds about international arrivals. Certainly, we are only at the beginning of news cycle. And thanks too for the nice words.

      Aloha.

  8. Good news! Ige finally found his password that reopens tourism.
Took a little longer then the tsunami !😀
Disregard the haters that are going to respond here and know that Hawaii will be a very special place as we enter this new phase of these
    historic times

  9. I am willing to bet this doesnt happen. Kaiser has said they have the ability to get results overnight but that is strictly for surgery patients. They have no category of Hawaii travel patients. CVS has no idea what Gov. Ige is talking about, so we are back to where we were months ago.
