  1. Hi Beat of Hawaii, thank you again for all of your updates. This is great news, at least until the date moves again. However there still seems to be a number of important questions left unanswered from the state. Specifically I am concerned as to what kind of documentation will be needed to prove the negative test and which testing services will be acceptable. Will we be required to go to CVS or Kaiser ? Can we use our own doctor for the test or our city’s testing facility ? I would appreciate keeping us all in the loop. Thank you.

    1. Hi AW.

Thanks. We anticipate that test results could be integrated with the Safe Travel app. But the state has not said anything yet. The post is updated to reflect the type of test and laboratory that will be accepted. That could well change in the ways that Josh Green had earlier suggested. We’ll keep updating this.

      Aloha.

      1. Thank you.

I did some more digging around since I found out that the test lab used by my city (Seattle) is not CLIA certified. It turns out that no labs in WA state are CLIA certified since WA state has their own certification (MTS) which is replaces CLIA. I am hoping that Hawaii will recognize this and accept WA state labs despite not being CLIA certified.

  2. Thanks for all the updates. We’re scheduled to come out over Thanksgiving, and it’s at least looking more promising. I do wonder though, what will be available to do if we do get there? What kind of activity restrictions are in place? Are snorkel and sunset excursions allowed or even running? Can we go to the parks/beaches? If you can pass along an update on those things, that would be appreciated.

    1. Hi Dan.

Thanks. We look forward to having more to share as we get closer. Certainly parks and beaches will all be open. We can’t speak to activity providers and how they will be working, but we suspect those too will be on to a greater or lesser degree.

      Aloha.

  3. Way too many unanswered questions. What happens if you or someone you traveled with becomes symptomatic, or there is a sudden spike in cases? What does that mean for the visitor? And, why do all the concerns we have heard about for months about overwhelming the hospitals magically disappear on Oct. 15th? What about that magical date all of a sudden makes it safe to sit on a beach instead of just having to look at it longingly? Why did they approve the resort bubble on the same day they announce opening the entire state? We are definitely in the “believe it when I see it” mode. Hoping for the best, but certainly not overly optimistic.

    1. We agree with Sheryl B. We will wait and see how this pans out.

See how many, if any, businesses have survived all this craziness. See if they actually ALLOW a person some level of ‘mask free’ freedom. Last place I want to be is on a beach in a mask! Or having to wears masks everywhere we go in Hawaii. I can do that at home – thank you.

We will see how things are going in early 2021 – give it 6 months to work the wrinkles out. Then, and only then, will we seriously consider another trip.

Just thinking….. we test, get on a plane to the West Coast with other passengers going elsewhere who have NOT tested. You can still catch the virus and get sick from an untested person on the plane. Can’t see the efficacy of it all. Last thing I want to do is come down with something after arriving in Hawaii and have to stay (and PAY) for another 14 days in quarantine before they let me come home. Nah. Not my idea of fun.

Thanks Jeff for all your hard work. Busy days ahead for you :0)

  4. The only way to truly make it safe is to test on arrival with a test that takes less than 15mins.

    Pre-arrival testing:
    – could be false negative
    – can catch Covid in the 72 hour period
    – how to verify? I already know of people looking for fake travel certificates

I work at a lab that is doing this testing and I can’t figure it out.

Hawaii needs tourism money again, and I want to come in March, so I hope it all works out.

  5. Aloha Guys,

I believe it was just yesterday that a couple of your regulars complained that all your recent articles were to negative.

That they wished for more positive news and look you delivered.

Maybe, even though this is positive news let’s cool our jets and see how it plays out.

    1. Hi Richard.

LOL. Thanks for your dozens of comments. Certainly, a lot more will be revealed in the days ahead. We look forward to that.

      Aloha.

  6. I’m glad Hawaii is reopening. In this case the tourists are gonna move to different states. Hawaii is only going to be the route of entry for them. Yes?

  7. This is exactly what Aruba has been doing since July. Hawaii should
have done the same. It will take some time for people to feel comfortable traveling so it is important to get tourism started again.

  8. Even if you get tested and are negative isn’t getting on a plane with others who potentially did not test be carriers? So then you could still be exposed and then expose others. This all seems so confusing.
