  1. Keep everyone safe, but screw everyone over. Too little too late with regards to testing and reopening. In mainland states you can drive state to state with no testing and no quarantine. Sure they might say 14 day quarantine in the states but it isn’t enforced because they arnt pulling everyone over that drives into the state.

Tourism in Florida etc is partially recovered, but of course many people lost jobs due to failed government and martial law/shutdowns, which should not have happened in the firstplace. I still stick by sweden and south dakota for remaining fully open and asking sick n elderly only to quarantine. Death rates are maybe 20 percent higher in sweden vs usa and is not in the millions. Usa has over 350 million people and 1.5k deaths. That doesnt really reduce the overpopulation in America either. This is not even close to a truely deadly pandemic or an extinction level event yet pple disrupt every singke thing in thier life, usually for nothing. Smart people?

    1. wow you are just heartless. I have lost three personal friends to this virus. LOL and staying open depended on actually mitigating which NO one here seems to be able to do

  2. As soon as travel opens, there will be a spike in cases and another shutdown. The problem is the leadership in the state. Until that is fixed expect more and more chaos. I wouldn’t plan on traveling to Hawaii for the next 6 months.

  3. Still too many unknowns. Prices for tests are costing up to $160 per person, some testing facilities will only test if you show symptoms, test results are sometimes not available within three days, and what happens if you get tested and the day before you travel the result is positive. Will you get your money back from the airlines, car rental agencies, and resorts/hotels, Airbnb’s? Probably not as they currently have a 24 hour cancellation policy, unless they are changing their policies for the virus. On top of that, how soon will everything open up? Restaurants, shops, parks, beaches…. that is, those that haven’t closed permanently. I doubt many will open up for a few weeks after Oct 15 to see if there is a virus recurrence, and if the number of tourists coming in makes it worthwhile to rehire staff and restore services. I for one am not willing to just fly there and sit on the grass and beach all day, despite maybe missing out on Bobby V’s.🍺🍤🍕 So, we with our reservations to Kauai in February, we will wait until December to see how it is going. But thanks Rob and Jeff. When we eventually get there, along with Bill S., drinks and possibly a meal are on us at Keoki’s.

    1. Hi Bob.

Stay in touch and we’ll see how it goes. We’re staying optimistic for now. Thanks for your dozens of comments.

      Aloha.

      1. Hi Bill, Keoki’s is officially in Koloa, but is in Poipu in the Poipu Shopping Village. Popular place, good food and drinks, VERY Hawaiian motif.

        Mahalo,
        Bob

  4. Aloha guys.
Your recent post is getting us all excited. So many of us want to get back visiting the lovely shores of the Islands. While many of the mainland visitors will be able to get tested, I’m wondering is there any word about international travellers? (I have weeks booked for January 2021)
If I were to get a test in Ireland before leaving, would I be allowed to enter the USA and would I be allowed to make the onward journey to Hawai’i? Would the the test be valid for entry?
Any information would be of great help.
Good luck to fellow travellers and I hope everyone keeps safe.
    Mahalo for all your help.

  5. Govs change their minds more often than they change their underwear. Gov Phil of NJ declared restaurants to open July 2. On June 30 he changed his mind because ‘too many people at the Jersey shore weren’t wearing masks’. This despite all the covid stats looking great. Restaurants still not open in NJ. Let’s hope Gov Ige has more common sense.

  6. Aloha everyone
Our local news channel today(northern California) had a story about Hawaii opening, including the mention of CVS and Kaiser.

I went to my CVS store today, and the gal did know about something coming for testing but no details, I did not check the website. Good sign though, maybe a deal is coming together.

Talked to the Kaiser member services gal in person today, and again she knew something was coming but no details.
Hopefully we are making some progress.

For those that may not know about Bobby V’s in Kapaa, they have great coconut shrimp and pizza. Family owned and a great place to go.
Let’s hope this open up happens.
    Mahalo
    Bill

  7. thanks so much for keeping us up to date and explaining the ins and outs. you guys are terrific. hoping for kauai in march.

    1. Thanks for all the great coverage of this moving target. You said that only the US Government (like FAA) can prohibit those without negative results from flying to HI. Apparently the airlines can and do require mask usage. If our Government could confer the prohibition ability to the airlines they could decrease the chances of onboard transmission to their employees and passengers. If the airlines can’t restrict passengers, could they restrict seating on A/C to segregate passengers without negative proof? Mahalo, Dan

  8. Aloha Guys

We had reservations from October 21st to 27th at Grand Wailea which I canceled 2 weeks ago, but I was just on their website looks like they’re not reopening until November 15th.

If you have reservations with any large resorts on or just after October 15th you may want to check to make sure they will be open.

  9. We have a significant number of visitors coming from countries other than the US – eg Japan, China, Canada, Europe. Those countries don’t have “CLIA approved” labs. Many of those countries will issue test results in foreign languages. What test results will be accepted from those visitors?
Another very important question: if a visitor falls in the “results not received therefore must quarantine” category, will they be forced to book a new hotel reservation instead of proceeding to their vacation rental to quarantine?
    Questions, questions, questions…
