Hawaiian/Alaska Airlines 30% Off Sale Ends Tomorrow. That’s Not The Real Story.

Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines have a 30% off sale running through tomorrow, March 7, at 9:59 pm HST. For some travelers, it will be a good find, while for others, check the fine print first before heading to booking and using code HALSAVE30NI.

Discount is valid on Alaska Airlines-and Hawaiian Airlines-operated flights between Hawaii and North America, including all inter-island (Neighbor Island) routes within Hawaii. The discount applies to published fare routings, and some cities may not be available.

The offer’s travel dates run from April 22 through May 21. That date is more tell-tale than it looks. April 22 is when Hawaiian bookings for travel from that date forward move into Alaska’s reservation system. We have still been experiencing redirects, mismatched reservation numbers, login confusion, and not knowing which system is actually in charge.

The 30% headline is not the strictly 30% savings.

The discount applies only to the base fare before taxes and fees. Day-of-week rules add more complexity. Mainland-to-Hawaii flights only qualify on Monday through Thursday in both directions, transpacific. First class is also not included. Some economy fares are out. Offer is valid for one person or up to 7 people per discount code, traveling together and booked and ticketed at the same time in the same reservation and at the same fare. Obviously, airline sales only work if you rebuild your trip around the days the airline needs to fill.

The start date story.

Alaska said last fall that Hawaiian bookings for April 22 and beyond were moving into its reservation system and new multi-brand platform. For longtime Hawaiian flyers, this may be one of the last times a Hawaii booking still looks like the old Hawaiian way.

Interisland is also included.

Interisland flights are included with no day-of-week restriction. No midweek requirement. For visitors with neighbor Island travel coming up in late April or May, that is one of the most usable parts of this offer.

If your dates fit and you can travel, try the discount code HALSAVE30NI at HawaiianAirlines.com or Alaska Airlines.

  1. 30,000 miles for a first class seat on HA was a wild deal you scored. But it wasn’t the norm. You can routinely get seats to the mainland in economy for around 20k ATMOS points. It’s actually a pretty generous program (compare it with what you get on the “Big 4” airlines and it becomes very apparent) one of the better airline reward programs around. Your HA miles haven’t been devalued. And you have way more international options now with the OneWorld alliance.

  2. With the 30% off sale price, you only net a 30% status (mileage) points effectively losing 70% to get to silver status (old Pualani gold). Buyer beware.

  3. 11 months ago, a first class ticket with point was 30,000 points each way from SJC to OGG. Now it is a minimum of 95,000 points each way. That dilution of value is outrageous!
Alaska has certainly taken advantage of monopolizing the market!

    1. Was noticing the same thing. Flew from KOA-HND in August 25 for $3200 in business class. Same routing now is $4500.
Not sure how these fares make them money when half the people in business class are upgraded.
