One of the big issues negatively impacting Hawaii airfares is the lack of inventory. In that regard, any new flights are a welcome sight, as they bring with them the possibility of competition and better pricing. We’ll keep our eyes peeled for any fare sales that may result.
New daily non-stop service from LA to Maui
Starting July 1, Hawaiian Airlines will offer daily year-round service between Los Angeles and Maui, thus adding 120,000 seats to the market. The flights will be on Hawaiian’s new Airbus 330 aircraft. This replaces seasonal LA to Maui service which has been on Hawaiian’s 767’s. This now makes Hawaiian the only carrier to offer wide body service between Los Angeles and Maui.
In total, Hawaiian Airlines will have five Hawaii flights daily from Los Angeles, plus the seasonal non-stop service nonstop from Los Angeles to Kauai and Kona.
New prop jet service to begin soon
Hawaiian’s new Ohana by Hawaiian service between Honolulu and both Molokai and Lanai should begin soon. The certification process was delayed due to federal budgetary constraints. Expect to see their recently acquired ATR-42 turboprops competing directly with Island Air.
