  1. My father is 85 and wants to see the Pearl Habor Memorial. I would like to take him using my Southwest points. Do you have any news when flights will start to Hawaii?

  2. Hello! My name is Amy and I wondered if you will have flights from Salt Lake City to Hawaii? We have been planning a family trip to O’ahu and we are hoping that you have flights by summer of 2018? We are super excited that SWA is putting this in their itinerary. Thank you for considering us!
    Kind Regards, Amy

    1. Hi Amy.

We don’t really know of anything that will happen in terms of new flights for SLC to Hawaii this coming summer.

      Aloha.

  3. Hi, we were planning a European family vacation for summer of 2018 but now want to consider Hawaii. We are big fans of Southwest and have earned 3 companion passes. We don’t want to miss out on Southwest going to Hawaii but we also don’t want to wait and miss the chance to plan and secure the trip to Europe on a timely basis. Do you think the announcement will really happen in January?
    Thank you!

  4. Aloha
I am so excited that Southwest will be coming to Hawaii. I have flown Southwest all over the mainland and I’m currently retired from Hawaiian Airlines. I truly miss the airport and atmosphere and I’m hoping to join the Southwest team. Welcome to to our islands.

  5. Thanks for the valuable and up to date info! I note that with your latest update you’ve dropped Sacramento from the list of potential mainland origins. Was this intentional and Southwest have changed their minds about a Sacramento route?

  6. I am a travel agent and not sure exactly how successful Southwest will be flying to Hawaii. They do have a great customer base, but there is already pretty good service from the West Coast with Hawaiian, Alaska, American, United and Delta. If they did start inter island service, that would be a plus for them since Island Air is in trouble financially. As for the fares being lower, they will probably be, but Southwest is not a discount carrier anymore. Gary Kelly, the CEO, would probably tell you that they don’t want to be known as a discount carrier, they want to be known as a customer friendly carrier. So I do expect the fares to be a little lower but not drastically lower.

    1. All true, but I’m among those flyers that would be interested in SW solely because of the points I’ve built up. Would love to cash in on that SW credit card mileage 😉

    1. That’s a nice thought and maybe a good move for SWA since Delta stopped service and UA has downsized their schedules.

  7. Any news on if the SWA flights from the mainland to Hawaii are going to allow pets in the cabin? We travel to Kauai for an extended period and fly with our 2 pugs. Right now the only option in Alaska.

  8. I currently work for Hawaiian Air and would consider applying with SWA. Are you going to use contract services for above and below the wing or will you hire SWA employees for these services. If so, when? Seriously interested. Thank you.

    1. Hi. I’m a SWA employee. Dependent on the amount of flights daily, SWA will decide then to outsource to a contractor or to hire SWA employees. Due to Hawaii labor laws, a certain percentage of employees will have to be Hawaiian residents so any current employees thinking about transferring will likely be put at the bottom of the list. As with contract or new hires, current SWA employees will put in a request to fly to HI to train on our reservation systems paid per diem.

      1. Thank you so much for the information. I have my 20 year vow renewal planned for June 2. flying from Phoenix to Maui We have about 20 people coming out. I have been waiting for flights. Do you think they will start flying by then or should I just book other flights before they are gone?

I am so grateful for any advice and help!

        1. Hi Traci.

Southwest Hawaii flights will not start by then. For 20 people flying together (actually 10 or more), contact the group sales desk of all pertinent airlines. You should be able to get a discount of about 10%.

          Aloha.

          1. Thank you so much! Even though Im sad, it helps a lot. Do you think they will start selling soon and will cause the “Southwest Effect ” on other airlines ?

I am extremely grateful for your help. Flights have gone up so much I feel bad having people pay that. I almost feel like delaying our vow renewal! ..

          2. Hi Traci.

They will probably start selling as sure as they feel confident on flight start dates. So that again goes back to the federal approval. At this time, our gut says that should happen within 6 months. You’ve got to figure that Allegiant got it, and it didn’t take forever. And Southwest clearly runs circles around that company.

            Aloha.

  9. We’re traveling to Waikaloa,(Kona) in very early September 2018, any thoughts on SWA flights by then? Thanks! Ron

    1. Hi Ron.

We publish everything that we know. SW is completing certification and when that’s done they will announce flights. Could be summer but more likely is winter.

      Aloha.
