  1. Once a flight is booked, say Kona to Phoenix, can the route be changed using what I’ve paid as a credit to a different destination?
I’m booking for a wedding and, if travel is not allowed then, will have no need to go to that destination any time thereafter

  2. Thank you for all your great articles! My family has been traveling to the islands over New Years for the past several years and love it. However it is by far the most expensive time to fly. In these unprecedented times, do you have any predictions on flight prices and when to buy from LA to Maui? thank you so much!

    1. Hi Pam.

Thank you. For the 2020 holiday season, we do think prices will be lower than normal. Since this is a guesstimate, we’ll say in the range of $500 RT on that route. Trick will be booking for that season as soon as things start to open up. Stay tuned for more on that soon.

      Aloha.

  3. Aloha, update: waited for HA and I received an email recently outlining process to cancel trip and rebook my May 8 reservation. So I canceled the reservation and have the 2022 permit to use the funds when I rebook. I have kept all the information needed. I am looking forward to a May 2021 vacation in Kauai and pleased with HA.
I enjoy receiving boh when mailed.
    Mahalo

    1. Hi Marilyn.

Thanks for the update. Please be in touch when you’re trip approaches. It would be great to meet you in person.

      Aloha.

  4. We have nonstop flights from United to Lihue mid July . But what is closest city to Denver that Hawaii flies out of ?

  5. Mahalo for publishing this! We found these fares before reading tour post and rebooked our cancelled PHX-LIH trip from May to Sept. Nice to see great fares from cities outside of Cali. We will be first in line to rebook again if the island hasn’t healed by Labor Day. Love reading everything your post. -Aloha

    1. Hi Sherri.

Chicago rarely sees good prices to Hawaii. But this is a different time, so it is very likely.

      Aloha.

  6. Please help!
I’m looking for the $139 deal PHX or East Coast to HNL in Oct.
I don’t see it on Hawaiian Website. I looked at their Fare Calendars as well.
How do I book these deals?
    Mahalo!
    Kim

    1. Hi Kim.

Those fares are still available on just checking. So it is either the route or the dates you are looking for that is the issue, neither of which you mentioned.

      Aloha.

  7. Hi, looked at your latest fare update as it listed cities in Texas to fly from. Saw AA Houston to Kona and followed the link to the AA search area. Put my dates and all I was finding are fares over $1,000.

What is the secret to finding/booking the fares you list ? Thank you. P.S. I am a subscriber to your site and enjoy it.

    1. Hi Keith.

Sorry, but those fares are gone. They were there for many hours, but these kinds of deals usually don’t last even a day. That’s why we admonished twice in that regard including “Purchase as soon as possible. These could end at any time, and likely today.”

For next deals here’s what we suggest. Try to book within an hour of our publishing. If you have a problem finding the price then, then post a comment with dates you want and we’ll try to help find availability if we can.

      Aloha.

  8. Mahalo for all the travel and airfare updates. My family and I are flying out of Los Angeles to Kahalui in June of 2019. Is Southwest going to release dates and pricing soon?

    Thanks.

    Sincerely,
    Christy S.

    1. Hi Christy.

Our best guess is this will happen within the next 30 days. Fingers crossed. Of course they have said that LA will not be part of initial offering. Our suspicion however is that it won’t be that far behind.

      Aloha.

  9. I have never been able to find any of these deals. I have tried the link provided which takes me to priceline and have tried to go direct to American Airlines. I have changed destinations and arrivals, different dates and Tuesday through Thursday only. Where do we get these deals? I have looked many, many times with no luck whatsoever. Mahalo.

    1. Hi BW.

Those fares were there for hours, but you cannot expect these kinds of deals to last even a few hours or a day. That’s in fact why we regularly admonish multiple times including in this post “Purchase as soon as possible. These could end at any time, and likely today.”

For next deals here’s what we suggest. Try to book within an hour of our publishing (that’s what we do ourselves). If you have a problem finding the price then, post a comment immediately with date range you want and we’ll try to help find availability if we can.

      Aloha.

  10. Heading to Honolulu summer 2019 from east coast USA (Pittsburgh, DC, Cleveland, possibly Toronto). When is best time to book? Dates are totally flexible.

    1. Hi Fred.

Many Tuesday through Thursday departures in September and October, and today the price is back down to $177 each way.

      Aloha.

  11. We are heading to Kauai from Phoenix in March of 2019. We wanted to get the experience of Hawaiian airlines but looks like they do not fly into Kauai. Is there an Island we should fly into and then get a connecting flight to Kauai?

  12. Can you please help my wife and I. We want to visit our son in the Navy. We can fly from Phl or Bwi.Going to Honolulu. We would like to go on Feb 5,2019 and return on February 17or18. Thanks for your help and great work. I enjoy your newsletter.

  13. Where and how can i get these airfares? I’ve gone to the American Airlins website and the price is not even close. Do I need to call someone? I even did a mock up request from LA to Honolulu and it was way higher.
I am trying to fly from Houston to Honolulu

  14. Mahalo for sharing this great information. Are you aware of any deals traveling from Minneapolis to Kauai with no specific dates? Again, maholo.

    1. Hi Darla.

Nothing really great right now. Best prices are low-$600’s with fast connection (11 or so hours) this fall. Probably will see more pricing like or better coming up for other months. Sun Country has some good prices (in $400’s), but with bad connections requiring lengthy layovers and long duration (25+ hours).

      Aloha.

  15. I always get excited when I see “east coast” flights, but never seen them from Florida (where I live). Is that not a possible route for these types of deals? Thanks!

    1. Hi Sara.

If you search for cities like Miami on our website, you’ll see that there have been sales. But they are infrequent since there is little market between Florida and Hawaii.

      Aloha.

  16. Looking for decent deals for next year for my parents. Celebrating 60th birthdays and 35yrs of marriage. Probably leaving from columbus ohio or detroit, michigan. Not sure what time of year is better for them to travel.

  17. Aloha!
First of all, thanks for all you guys do! Because of this site I was able to score a crazy deal on my flight from Chicago this summer.
I’m planning on moving to Maui in January and was hoping for Chicago deals. Should I keep waiting or book now ($300-400 one way)?
Dates are flexible between January 6-14.
    Would love your input!
    Mahalo,
    Bea

    1. Hi Bea.

We saw your note about not being able to comment. Looks like whatever issue there was is squared away.

Our take is to buy now at that price since nothing is indicating Chicago prices will improve soon. Maybe with SW, but maybe not.

      Aloha.

      1. Thank you so much, I was thrilled when I saw that it finally worked! Thanks for getting back to me!

I will go ahead and try to book soon then. Thanks so much for the advice!

        Mahalo

  18. Aloha. We plan a Chicago-Kahului (Maui) roundtrip, November 15-26. The lowest fares now are over $900.

I am gambling on the Southwest connection effect. The information that you have kindly provided indicates an October announcement followed by flights beginning shortly thereafter. Presumably, its fares will be considerably lower, and then the other airlines would lower their fares accordingly, hopefully in short order.

If all goes as imagined, we could save a few hundred dollars by waiting. But any glitch could cost us a few hundred dollars. If you can provide any guidance, would you please do so? Mahalo. I understand that any advice would be speculative at this time. Thanks so much for your consideration.

    Douglas T.

    1. Hi Douglas.

We’re doubtful of any positive impact should Southwest have announced and/or be flying by then. Subsequently yes, but not for Thanksgiving. Looks like it is going be be about $1,000 for any decent flights/duration. If you could come back a couple of days later, you’d save $200 or more.

      Aloha.

      1. Thanks so much for your extremely helpful, straightforward reply. (I just found it last night, hence my late response.) This removes a lot of uncertainty and worry. Now I shall monitor the fares for a few days, hoping for a midweek reduction, and then purchase.

        May you flourish! Aloha.

  19. Hi-
Husband & 2 daughters want to travel to Kona Dec 28/29, 2018 for 2 week vacation. Fares on United or American are $859. Is this a reasonable price or will fares go any lower? Just need some guidance–any help you can give would be appreciated.
    Thank You

    1. Hi Barbara.

You didn’t say from where. The outbound flights will be expensive, but the return should be far less, regardless of the origin.

      Aloha.

  20. Hello, please advise on best time to go to Hawaii from NYC and Savannah for my mom and I, celebrating turning 80 and 60, respectively. Must see Pearl Harbor and volcano. Thinking a bit of land and cruise trip….not sure what to do
Any help you may provide, greatly appreciated.

  21. Family of of 5 looking for deals next Christmas season (2018) to any HI island. for 7-10 day stay. I know it’s a long shot, but any possible deals then from Denver? I heard SW may have non stop by then. Hoping. Thanks so much. Great website!

    1. Hi Pamela.

No that is isn’t going to happen with virtual certainty. High holidays are something you buy close to a year in advance, and deals aren’t a part of that peak season. Everything should be booked that far in advance (accommodations, air, car).

      Aloha.

  22. Good Afternoon!

I am so happy that I discovered your website!

While I am anxiously awaiting an announcement from SWA regarding flights from the Mainland to Honolulu, I would like your expert advice.

Do you think that there will be any lucrative deals (on any airline) for the dates of 06/30- 07/06/18 RT to Honolulu?

Departure city would be St. Louis, MO- but we can get to the West coast from there if necessary as typically we take STL>LAX>HNL.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Sharon

    1. Hi Sharon.

No you should not expect any deals during that, the most expensive possible week of summer. Best to buy now.

      Aloha.

  23. We are trying to get from Oklahoma City or Dallas to Lihue in June. Oklahoma has been way less than Dallas, holding at $755 round trip. We have been waiting for it to drop some. Any thoughts on cheaper ways to get there? We are in north central Texas. If we could get to California for a lower price , then find a lower price from there to Lihue?

  24. Hi, thanks for all the wonderful information–I love this website.

I was wondering if you ever see any deals on non-stop flights from Chicago? We have kids and figure the less travel time, the better. We are looking at possibly coming out before or after spring break (not during.) Fairly flexible on dates. Thanks for all your help. Have a great day!

    1. Hi Trish.

Chicago has been Hawaii deal challenged to say the least. And non-stops even worse. Low $900’s in April/May is probably the best possibility.

We think there’s a pretty good chance of new flights from Chicago and/or other mid-west cities to Hawaii in the not too distant future.

      Aloha.

    2. Tosh I know you said non stop but check southwest to lax. Then lax to whatever island on Hawaiian air. I live in Texas and that’s what I do cheaper than non stop on United. Good luck

      1. Thanks, Robin. I will check travel times. My daughter’s ears also don’t do well with landings, so the fewerthe better. Thanks again.

  25. Amazing price and connections! Great thing about Hawaiian is you can pay to put your fare on hold ($6.99 for a 3 day hold & $8.99 for 7 days), so I could act quickly to hold the fare, but take some time to plan & make sure it’ll work. I’ll be booking soon. Mahalo for your excellent website!

  26. Hi,
Wondering if rates from the east coast will be dropping any for next June after the new year! I know it is rare for price drops from here. When would the best time be to buy! Flying from State College, Pa to Honolulu. Have made the flight many times with many different rates.

  27. Good Afternoon, My family and I (5 of us) will be traveling to Hawaii the last week of July 2018. Looking for the best airfare rates from Denver. Thanks for your help!

    1. Hi Jeff.

There’s at least an outside chance of more direct flights from Denver, but no one knows if that’s for sure or when it might occur. Otherwise, that’s high season and airfares are $700’s with 2 stops, $800’s with one stop, and about $1,000 for nonstop. As expected and not sure it will improve. Odds of getting better 40%, odds of getting worse – about the same.

      Aloha.

  28. Good deal out of Baltimore to Honolulu in May. Ending up being about $740. Now to find a place to stay there. Not really into the big hotels but I will have my Mom with me. To be determined but if anyone has any suggestions…? I heard the North Shore has some gems but I may need a car?
