Alaska’s problems are contributing to Hawaii flight cancellations, while unrelated Hawaiian Airlines issues are causing an unusual spike in Hawaii flight delays this week. This comes as Alaska grapples with the fallout and grounding of its Boeing 737 MAX 9 fleet following last week’s incident. Today, they announced they will not return the MAX 9 fleet to service until at least Saturday.
Hawaii flight cancellations at Alaska are continuing with no abatement in sight.
On Wednesday, a somewhat improved cancellation situation at Honolulu Airport meant that just 22% of Alaska’s flights were canceled. While at Maui, 66% of Alaska Air flights were canceled.
Alaska’s Maui flights fared better on Tuesday, with just 12% canceled; 42% did not fly on Monday. On Sunday, 47% were canceled.
At Honolulu, Tuesday saw 24% of Alaska’s flights canceled; on Monday, 34% were canceled. On Sunday, 35% of Alaska’s fights were canceled.
Unrelated, Hawaiian Airlines suffered major flight delays this week.

Honolulu airport delays at Hawaiian Airlines:
Sunday: 38% of flights were delayed.
Monday: 60% of flights were delayed.
Tuesday: 54% of flights were delayed.
Maui airport delays at Hawaiian Airlines:
Sunday: 31% of flights were delayed.
Monday: 37% of flights were delayed.
Tuesday: 50% of flights were delayed.

So my flight back to California was cancelled and Alaska says call them to reschedule a flight, however the hold time was at least 6 1/2 hours and you still have to make sure you can stay an extra night. I had to book a different airline and hopefully we will be able to go home on Tuesday the 16, 2024
