Hawaii Flights Surge with Increased U.S. and International Connections

Travelers planning Hawaii vacations will now have some added flight options as services ramp up to meet demand. With both expanded U.S. mainland frequencies and the return of an international route, Hawaii-bound travel is attempting to take off.

Increased U.S. mainland flights on tap.

This holiday season, Hawaiian Airlines will offer more flight frequencies from key U.S. mainland hubs to Hawaii. Travelers departing from Los Angeles (LAX), Seattle (SEA), and San Francisco (SFO) will have expanded options for planning their end-of-year vacations. These seasonal increases are specifically designed to meet the anticipated surge in demand during the peak travel period between now and January 2025.

It’s important to note that these changes shouldn’t be confused with the significant, permanent route and fleet changes involving Hawaiian and Alaska Airlines, which include adjustments to their widebody aircraft schedules. For details on those changes, visit Hawaiian and Alaska Airlines Shake Up Routes With Widebody Changes.

These added flights, many of which are serviced by the narrow-body Airbus A321neo, offer early arrivals perfect for jump-starting your island adventure.

Similarly, San Francisco (SFO) and Los Angeles (LAX) have gained new flights timed to optimize connections and make travel more accessible. Flights will use a combination of widebody A330 and A321 aircraft.

International expansion from HNL.

Hawaii is also reconnecting with New Zealand in the form of seasonal service between Auckland (AKL) and Honolulu (HNL), also on Hawaiian Airlines. This route, operating three times weekly on Airbus A330 planes, links Hawaii with New Zealand during the peak of the Southern Hemisphere’s summer.

Plan your trip with these two strategies.

If you’re planning a trip to Hawaii during this busy period, flexibility may be key to finding sweet spots in terms of pricing. With increased frequencies, there may be better-priced options, especially at the last minute.

Final thoughts on Hawaii flight demand.

The boost in flight options reflects a strong but seasonal-only rebound in Hawaii travel demand. It remains to be seen how overall demand for Hawaii travel will unfold in 2025 and how that will impact all airlines’ flight plans.

  1. Not sure how this can be perceived as anything other than what the plan was when the merger was being put together…..maximizing the HA/AS synergies. This substantially increases travel options between the HA/AS route structures. Not just throughout the Mainland but connecting to Hawaiians International route structure. More options to Asia now and more to Australia and the South Pacific.
