Ige says masks stay on for now. Flight attendants too want masks to remain. But what do consumers say?

  1. Hi Guys!

I am not surprised. Ige has changed his mind mid-stream since the beginning of COVID. In fact it has felt as if the rules change mid-flight from LAX-HNL, weekly. I’m waiting until after 3/26 to book AND fly. Never know what “dancing waters” or “Coconut Wireless” will bring. That’s why I depend upon BOH for the island updates.

    Thanks!

  2. Not wearing one. Can’t wait for all restrictions to be lifted. It should be left up the individual, never mandated.Ever.

    1. Really? So you think it should be your choice to spread the virus to others? Pretty selfish way of thinking

  3. Aloha
I have no issues wearing a mask. I’ve flown to Hawaii 7 times since January 2021. Always seem to catch a cold flying on airplanes. Haven’t had one now for two years. Will probably wear one when traveling by airplane, post Covid.
    Mahalo

    1. Hi Sam.

True that. It seems that almost no one has had a cold or flu since Covid.

      Aloha.

  4. Omicron proved vaccines and masks don’t work. Everyone I know who got the virus had been double vaccinated, boosted and masked. I say let people do what they feel comfortable with. Don’t criticize those who are comfortable not wearing the mask and don’t criticize those who still choose to wear them. All the fear mongering over the past 2 years has likely done irreparable damage to some folks to the point where the mask has become a false sense of security. Very sad.

  5. th masks don’t work! everyone knows that. Florida is a perfect example fo freedom.
we will be living with this man made virus forever.

We breath our own carbon dioxide>

Unions cannot be in charge of noir health. The cdc says masks are not effective. Governers should not be n chargrills of our freedom ot health.
ice get over your controlling self

  6. It’s this uncertainty and inconsistent actions that caused the 17 of us to change our trip to the Caribbean. Masks are a joke. Sorry, the fact is they simply do not work. If people want to wear one that’s fine but I’m done with that nonsense.

    20
  7. As someone who works on aviation, I’m all for the TSA keeping the mask mandate in place for passengers. It’s a good idea and should remain in place for a while longer

    12
  8. I was wearing a filtered mask on planes before Covid19 to keep my nasal passages moist. And will continue wearing them now to avoid stuff of all kinds for other passengers. I do hope that the airlines keep up with the cleaning and air filter protocols, too.

    17
  9. Thanks for the updates! I am 69 years old and have found masking to be easy and good for me…no drama, no politics, no colds, flu nor Covid for two years. I will continue to mask up indoors (like grocery stores) probably forever. If others don’t want to, that is fine with me. Please just don’t give me a hard time and go forward with respect for everyone.

  10. I don’t really understand why Gov. Ige would retain the mask mandate with so few cases, and when all other states will have abandoned it. If cases rose, I suspect that people would start masking up on their own, or he could reinstate it.

    21
    1. It’s a small island chain 2800 miles away from anything that’s why. People coming from all over the world. It’s not Idaho

    2. Lee,
Open google earth. Google your location, then google any of the hawaiian islands and you will quickly realize Why. Millions come from All over the world to Hawaii. Its not like Texas, Idaho, or even washington. Its a set of islands in the middle of the pacific ocean 2800 miles from the nearest land or US state.

  11. You have to wonder how there are different restrictions if Ige is following “the science”. I hate that phrase, but as a physicist, I understand it.

But with so much data saying that taking masks off are okay, why Ige continues to mandate them is beyond me.

I’ve said before that he’ll be termed out so he’s gone soon, but a recall could not happen soon enough.

    28
  12. Who knew that once Governor’s implemented covid emergency powers that they’d continue to exercise those powers when there’s no longer an emergency.

    Lol!

    35
    1. A least one person knew 73 years ago.

“We know that no one ever seizes power with the intention of relinquishing it.”
      – George Orwell, 1984 (Published 1949)

      6
  13. The majority of us in Texas have been mask-less for almost 2 years. How long are you willing to accept the restrictions based on lies?

    44
    1. Hawaii is Not the open plains of texas that has states all around it. FFS people its an island chain in the middle of the pacific ocean. I dont get why yall dont get that.

      1
      1. “The open plains of Texas” really? 7 million packed into Houston area alone (and three other large metro centers) not to mention the pouring in of untested immigrants on a daily..and a huge hub for international travel and energy. If any State should react to an impact from COVID, it would be Texas, yet they recognized early on this whole thing is a political sham. Ige needs to step off his throne and get back to reality, people on the islands are sick of this! Stop the nonsense. Aloha.

        1
  14. Perhaps we might commend to the good Governor a suggestion from world recognized author Isaac Asimov.

“Your assumptions are your windows on the world. Scrub them off every once in a while, or the light won’t come in.”

    26
  15. If masks work, why aren’t masks working?

You can smell cigarettes thru them… if they worked, covid would have been stopped in May 2020. 🤷‍♀️

Florida again it is. Even California is a better choice. 🤦‍♀️ Sad!!!

    32
    1. We went to French Polynesia this year and May never go back to Hawaii. Tahitian culture actually like Americans and made us feel very welcome! Maruuru!

      4
  16. I hope and pray that they drop the mass mandate ASAP. Please follow the CDC guidelines and not fear.

    21
  17. I’m a Texas High School teacher. We’ve had in-person classes last year and this year. We dropped mandatory masks about a year ago. We’ve never had to close due to Covid since returning in August of 2020.

So… will I be wearing a mask if I don’t have to? Nope.

I did the mask thing on a Hawaiian trip with my parents in February. I’m hoping to take my daughter, son-in-law, and young grandkids for Christmas. The trip will be a lot easier and more pleasant without masks.

    1. I live in Texas. During the recent Delta & Omicron variants, Texas hospitals were overrun with unvaccinated patients. The death rate was quite high.
COVID isn’t over, approximately 1 billion people have been vaccinated; so we have 8 billion to go.

      9
      1. Evan it was proven that the hospitals were not overrun with dying unvaccinated patients. If you have the Texas Department of Health report on your claim please post the link here. I forget links aren’t allowed. Just tell us what Texas authority gave you those statistics please. Thank you.

        11
      2. Evan,
I mean no offense at all with any of my comment below.
I am sad that there are so many people in the hospitals and also the amount of deaths.
I do not understand however, your comment about how many people left to get vaccinated.
Do you believe that the vaccination is a cure or will prevent people from getting covid? All the vaccine does is lessen the severity of the symptoms if one should catch covid.
        Just wondering.
        Have a great day.
        Guy

        1
      3. Evan, please stop spreading this nonsense. I’m in Texas. My family works in the medical field and this was all propaganda by the media. Now that we have a new crisis in the news, Covid will slowly drift away as it should have 2 years ago.

        4
      4. Texas, USA?
Because hospitals were never overrun here.
Please don’t make things up – it confuses the discussion.

        1
  18. Thanks for the update Jeff and/or Rob. 😊

Wear a mask when they’re not required? You gotta be kidding, right?

I don’t plan to wear one when I’m alone in my car either.

    23
    1. Hi Colleen.

You’re always a hoot. So we won’t see you in disguise in your car huh?

      Aloha. R/J

  19. So guessing that the flight attendants are not trusting “the science” behind HEPA filtration as to air qualty onboard commercial aircraft in spite of what their respective airlines have raved about.
And as far as Ige not relenting on the masking nonsense, who is really surprised by him contiuing on with it, again in spite of the science. Destroying Hawaii’s and its citizens lives apparently isn’t enough for him.

    21
  20. It was only a few weeks ago as we retuned home to Kauai that my husband caught covid on the plane. There was an obviously sick family across the isle from us, coughing. I didn’t eat or have a cocktail, I kept my mask on the entire flight. We went home and quarantined. My husband ate and had a cocktail on the plane, he got covid, tested positive, was sick. Being 3 times vaccinated he recovered but it took about 2 weeks. I will continue to wear my mask on a plane. I wish others would too.

    9
    1. No one is stopping you from continuing to wear a mask but your comment just goes to prove that these ‘jabs’ are useless from preventing you from getting Covid. It’s time to end all these ridiculous mandates. Enough is enough. Again, just because Ige or the Federal government ends the mandates doesn’t stop you from doing what you feel is right for you. As for me, I will not be wearing a useless mask, or taking the jab.

      10
  21. So many residents of Hawaii continue to live in their pandemic bubble, not comprehending that masks can still be worn, not mandated.

    16
  22. Thanks for all your very helpful reporting! When we’re in Hawaii, we are indoors so rarely – really only grocery shopping – that any continuing requirement to mask indoors would be almost meaningless to us. We would happily comply with any mask requirement for indoors. Even if Hawaii is the only state to continue indoor masking, can you really compare Hawaii to any other state? It’s so different in many ways.

    6
  23. I will not wear a mask indoors so guess I will not be dining out in Hawaii. If masks are dropped on planes I will be thrilled. They don’t work.
    Aloha

    19
  24. We are coming in May, and still plan to wear our masks on the flight. The flight attendants are right, those who can’t be vaccinated (think of the little kids and babies) or who are immunocompromised shouldn’t be put at risk. A person’s right not to wear a mask ends when their breath invades another person’s space—which is inevitable in a closed environment like a plane. Let’s be kind to one another and treat our neighbor as we would want the most vulnerable member of our own family treated.

    6
  25. Yes I will continue wearing mine for awhile inside crowded situations. It’s too soon imho.

    6
  26. No way! Haven’t worn a mask except when absolutely mandated. Let herd immunity work. I have traveled all over the country from the very beginning of this stupid pandemic and have never gotten sick. Let us live our lives with our own choices.

    19
    1. Same! Except my whole household got COVID. We have school agers so they brought it home. No big deal – we were happy to have it done and over with and still have strong antibodies months later. The masks and vaccines don’t work. I feel bad for those that still believe they do and are so afraid to live without fear. I hope Ige finally relinquishes the control he feels he needs to have. People should be able to choose if they want to wear them or not.

      8
  27. Wow, why remove the masks? Such nonsense is going to bring us back to tough restrictions down the road.
These masks have protected me so far and I have no intention of stopping using them.

    7
  28. Ige is such a joke. Thank god his term is almost up. He nearly destroyed us with his fumbles with the nuclear test and now he is further trying to destroy the struggling travel industry. Get a life and get real! COVID is over.

    20
  29. yes! I have a large assortment of masks and I have enjoyed not having all the usual cold/ flu symptoms during the last 2 years. I will continue to wear a mask for my safety and for others.
I think it as respectful esp. to the airline staff.

  30. I watch my granddaughter play tournament volleyball on a Oahu via streaming. These girls are vaccinated teenagers and yet play their hearts out for hours with masks on. I went to a huge tournament in Phoenix to see her play and Hawaii was the only team wearing masks. Made me sick as they slipped their mask down to take a breath.

Her brother’s senior season of football only allowed parents the last two games and that’s outside.!!!!!

    Enough already!!!!

    14
  31. You gotta love the nanny state government that thinks it’s their job to mitigate all personal risk and remove decisions on one’s health from individuals and place it in the hands of bureaucrats. The fact that Fauci has dropped off the radar of the corporate media should give you an indication that the ‘emergency’ is over. If you believe otherwise, you should never leave your house….too much risk out there in the real world.

    20
  32. hell no, i dont plan to wear the masks since its been proven time and time again that the masks do nothing to protect us. so this is bull!

    16
  33. I’m waiting for the mask mandate to drop so I can fly. I won’t fly while having to wear a mask for hours on end. Not worth it for me.

    16
  34. Oh, man, Ige. That’s a BAD IDEA! The whole country (heck, World) gives you feedback that enough is enough and you decide to rattle your saber to show how much power you still have before being voted out! Everyone I’ve texted so far said the same thing.

    11
  35. When the mandate is dropped, I would consider a mask only when in a crowded indoor space, at least for awhile. Otherwise, time to move on.
