  1. State of Hawaii should do like State of Nevada, for those people who has gotten all their shots will have on their wrist a hospital band that cannot be remove, once it has been removed it cannot be used again, the person has to go back to square one, get a record where he got the shots and they would put on a new band, the only way to remove the band is cutting it off.

  2. Violators should spend jail time here in Hawaii and follow court hearing, with fine of $5,000 this way mainlander will not challenge Hawaii law.

    1
  3. Probably overboard. We don’t enforce rules in America anymore, but only for unvaccinated unscientifically verified results we will. Pick your poison, everyone has a choice.

    3
    1. No some just dont follow the rules anymore and think its called freedom. Follow the rules. Do the right thing.

  4. Thankyou Hawaii for your beautiful island paradise, rich history, and laidback lifestyle. If I were able and younger I would retire there. All of the complaints and noise I am seeing here are
strange, the governing leaders are trying to protect both tourists and Hawaii’s citizens. People have a right to complain but are going to far. A lot of misguided people believe tourist destinations “Owe” customers the benefit of the doubt, that is wrong, because lives are at stake. It so ironic that during a pandemic common sense and the golden rule has all but disappeared. I am sure that negative tourists would not be missed in the future. Aloha!

  5. 10 days jail time? Lol, those guys should be sure to get a full medical exam, any treatments that have been pending, maybe get their teeth cleaned, and a refill on any meds they are in need of.
Why not let the state pay? With the new 16% highest income tax rate in the country combined with increasing the transient accommodation tax rate by more than 4% and blaming it all on Covid, these have plenty of money to spend on jailing and the medical care of its tourists.

    1
  6. take them to jail and fine them, must pay via credit card before release. I was just in Kauai we went to great lengths to follow all rules before we traveled and once we arrived. No issues lovely trip, others can do the same….simple solve follow the rules.

    9
  7. Hawaii should close it’s doors, go back to being a Monarchy and depend on itself. No more tourism, no Federal money….let us know how that works out.

  8. So glad consequences actually took place. As I understand it, it costs a good chunk of change to get fake vaccination cards. I don’t get it, shots are free. I guess some people like gaming the system for the thrill of it.

    13
    1. No. Some people are paranoid anti vax people who follow stupid conspiracy theories. Others object religiously (such as Christian Scientists).

Others though are scared. They don’t have insurance or bad insurance and worry about covering healthcare costs if the shot makes them ill. Then bombarded with False info like the shot can lead to virus shedding etc, they don’t know what to think and choose to trust their own bodies. It’s very telling that the ones holding out are often younger and/or BIPOC. Distrust of the system is high there, communication has been mediocre across both administrations and its leading to this small but significant subsection who isn’t getting vaxxed. Honestly I think a travel mandate requiring vax and business pressure from jobs will be the only things to get the needle moving on a lot of this group. Will it be enough to get hers immunity… no one knows

      2
  9. It is easier to get a test then to do all the work of faking one. These people are the type not to respect social distancing or masking types.

    13
  10. It’s just like prohibition in that you can’t just pass laws or mandates and think people will all conform.
You don’t ban something because it makes it more enticing and creates a black market.
I know people who live on different islands and I ask they will fly back without test or vaccine? They all replied I will just do the two week “quarantine”.

Fact is we have just created a major division in people and the economy.
If they really fire all unvax people and stop them from spending the economy will crash and burn and Hawaii is finding that out.

That being said people will do what they want stupid or intelligent.
You or the government can’t stop it so it’s better to have more of a sensible and less divisive approach so as to mitigate this kind of behavior.

It’s so sad I used to drop $20k-$30k a year in Hawaii but I’m nit tempted at all to go visit anytime soon because of all these things going on and not being welcome.

    16
    1. You may have seen by now that people are not quitting in droves, they are getting vaccinated. United Airlines reports a vax rate of 99.5%. The sky is not falling.

      11
  11. I’m starting to feel as if Kaua’i wants to just ban tourism altogether. My last experience in March sure felt that way. I flew home one day early for the first time in my life! Who leaves Hawaii EARLY?!? I was depressed on Kaua’i, based off the freezing “welcome”—-Over 30+ visits to all the allowed islands, that has never happened. Returning doesn’t seem like a possibility in covid world. And COVID is here to stay (so I’m told by various people in the medical field). Anyway….. at least the other islands still show the Aloha spirit 🤙🏽💕🤙🏽.

    12
    1. I used safe travels with a legit vaccination and negative test and was just fine. Dont want to go dont go! I will do what is necessary to get there. So for everyone of you who decide not to go back 10 of us will take your place

      35
      1. I totally agree Paul C! Do we need to take a covid test if we’ve had the Pfizer vaccine plus the 3rd booster.
I will do whatever it takes to keep everyone safe.

        11
        1. Nani, no you do not currently need to test if you are fully vaccinated. Still need to register at SafeTravels and upload your vax card.

          2
      2. I believe Valerie from personal experience is just saying that she missed the “Aloha Spirit” on her last visit to Kauai. Hawaii is a special place on this planet, and in these difficult times, it is even more important to share our Aloha with one another.

        7
      3. Yeah, that’s not what she said or implied, PaulC, since she was only describing her apparently awful experience, which was pretty easy to see was the only comparison to these two clowns. They had an awful experience by their own stupidity, she just had an awful experience. In know way did she imply that she was okay with any of their actions, and jumping to that conclusion was completely ridiculous and unnecessary.

By the way, Buddy, travel numbers are drastically down (yet again) because of the crazy and continuously changing regulations in Hawaii. So, clearly 10 people are not going to take her place or the place of the millions of travelers that just aren’t willing to go at this point. Not sure where you got that imaginary number from, but that’s just not the case, based on factual statistics. 🤷‍♂️

        9
        1. Ten of us will be in Oahu in late October so yeah. There will be 10. Haha I’ll relook if I said something wrong I’ll correct it

          5
        2. Jim spot on. Thank you. Somehow I read what she road and my brain interpreted it differently. I apologized to her.
The two clowns deserve what they got. Yes I’m sure travel is way down. It will recover. Lots of people here complaining about the masks or vaccines or tests saying I’m never coming back. They will

          1
        1. Hi Paul.

Sorry, but we weren’t sure which comment you want edited. Please advise including comment time stamp. Thanks.

          Aloha.

    2. We spent 20 days on Kauai in September and had a wonderful time! Not sure where you were… Weather was amazing, perfect for the beach. Nowhere better to relax. Everyone we encountered was very friendly! If people break the law, they should be treated accordingly.

      15
    3. I’m so sorry to hear that Valerie! I was in Kauai from Oct. 8, 2020 through February 17th of this year and was treated like family. I find the locals in Kauai to be very warm, loving and accepting. I started visiting in 1975 and it has always been an amazing and magical place for me. Hope your future travels will be better experiences for you. Aloha!

      1
  12. Aloha Jeff & Rob!

As always, thanks for keeping us updated on the latest happenings in Hawai’i.

    Bravo Hawaii!
I am SO done with all of this. If people would quit whining about the minor inconvenience of wearing masks
and develop a social conscience and get vaccinated, we could all move on from this protracted ordeal.

Too bad Hawaii even had to incur the expense to feed these freeloaders.

  13. Obviously this kind of stuff happens and while a little overly dramatic, I understand wanting to make examples out of these kind of travelers. That said, the overwhelming majority of travelers follow the rules. The one thing that we keep hearing is that the spread of Covid on the islands is coming mostly from the locals who are not following the guidelines put in place, so I am curious as to what are the consequences for the locals who break the rules?

    16
    1. Curious what BofH has heard about this. I’ve heard nothing so far happening to locals who break “tourist/visitor” rules. It feels the rules only apply to us…. As time goes by, I’m starting to get numb to all the *bleep*….. it is what it is. It’s a big world out there and I know I can find beaches in different places (we all do). Some of us just feel like Hawaii is a 2nd home (in my heart anyway)…….but that’s fading. Again – “that’s life” – I accept it. I always manage to find joy, no matter where I go (or stay). Stay well.

      1. Hi Valerie.

We don’t have any list but recall a Molokai man was arrested in June for violating Hawaii COVID rules.

        Aloha.

        1
  14. Hawaii can do whatever it wants with offenders.
I’m vaccinated but my opinion is that heavy handed authoritarian rules and enforcement remind me some pretty despicable regimes in history. It’s not for me. I’ll go to Florida for vacation

    27
    1. We have multiple homeowners at the Beach Villas including my neighbor who is a Florida residents! The last couple of guests we’ve had who stayed in our villa were visiting from Florida. I don’t quite get this. When I asked them about it they said, no comparison! Go figure. So there’s more to Hawaii than meets the eye.

    1. DS

It’s not up to the airlines to keep Americans from traveling, because you can’t keep people from traveling between States. That’s just not how it works, which is why they have to do it the way it’s done. It’s really that simple…not sure why anyone would think it’s ok for a US state to close it’s borders to American Citizens, really.🤷‍♂️

      6
      1. This is a state in the middle of the Pacific Ocean not Idaho
Nearest hospitals outside Hawaii? 5 hour flight

        10
  15. Book’em, Danno! Return them immediately. What the heck? Free lodging and food? Hope they don’t get a rental with the deal.

    15
  16. As the old joke sort of goes (about Big Island?)Hawaii has an extremely low murder rate….and the highest number of “disappeared persons” in the world.
Could it be that, once released, their trouble might be just beginning, not “disappearing”? So to speak.

    5
  17. This the ugly truth why this country is 🔥 hot on COVID list. People don’t care and refuse to listen. I would love to be traveling. I spent 6 years in Honolulu serving my country 2003 to 2009. Beautiful State and Beautiful people.. lock all up.. especially those with no documents ( i.e. Vaccines or covid test. It’s not fair to those that want to travel and can’t. Lock em up Hawaii and throw away the 🔑 key

    9
  18. I am outraged by the loose handling of these 2 criminals. They should absolutely be returned to the state they originated from. And, to cover the cost of their stay here, they should be fined for flipping the finger @ our Covid mandates. Letting them out into our neighborhoods is Criminal!!

    10
  19. First of all, I want to say that they look like Father and Son.
I’m at a loss as to why they’d be let go free. That’s ridiculous, and Louisiana should be interested in apprehending a wanted individual. This situation is very weird to say the least.
Governor Ige needs to step up and send them right back where they came from!
I guess when the younger individual commits a crime in Hawaii, it’ll be Hawaii’s taxpayers footing that bill again.

    Insanity at it’s finest.

Mahalo to Beat of Hawaii for letting us know who to keep on the lookout for!!
Aloha Jeff and Rob. You’re the best!🌺🌺

    2
    1. Hi Pam.

Thanks! We have the same thought about them being related but haven’t seen anything more.

      Aloha.

      3
    2. Unfortunately, if a person has a warrant in another state, that state usually bears the responsibility for the cost of transporting them (which includes a law enforcement officer) back to that state. It’s likely that the jurisdiction where the warrant originated Louisiana didn’t feel the charge was worth the cost (or couldn’t afford it).

  20. If they have warrants get them off your island arrest them when they walk out the door.(what are there warrants for??)I have to go thru loops just to come visit my family. And how did they get on the island without a place to quarantine .I have to have a address plus phone numbers on and on why are the lying cheating criminals always get away with stuff (tragic) yet the rest of us are treated like criminals sad day’s

    7
  21. That sounds like something we’d do here in California. And I’m sure do. Except that probably the people they do that with here are not from Louisiana. Or even the US.

    5
    1. Aloha TB. I’m not sure what you’re saying, but I would bet the probability of the “people they do that with here are not from Louisiana” is pretty naive. I would say they are from Louisiana, as well as various other states in the US.

So “Or even the US”… Again, not sure what you’re saying.

And to Jeff and Rob, mahalo for keeping us informed~

      1
  22. Sounds like business as usual for Hawaii criminal justice / corrections. Why do you think homelessness is such a huge problem here?

And, yeah, talk about not seeing the forest for the trees. The the Safe Travels nonsense or so focused on the process that they are missing the point. What would you rather have roaming the streets of Hawaii–someone with COVID–or a wanted criminal? Duh.

    7
  23. It’s just more proof the leadership in Hawaii is clueless when making many common sense and intelligent decisions…or, the State is not in ultimate control of its public services making these (frankly) stupid decisions.

It’d be interesting to see how much it cost to house, clothe and feed a prisoner for the 10 day quarantine period. You can pretty much guarantee it’s more than the cost of a one way ticket home, eh???

    10
  24. Another example of an upside down world. At least Hawaii knows the criminals they are letting into the state and if they have covid.

    1
  25. I recently subscribed to your publication and couldn’t be happier. Saw rental cars are coming down in price and just re-booked saving $562. Mahalo!

    1. Hi Susan.

Thanks and welcome. We’re glad to hear you were able to get a reasonably priced rental.

      Aloha.

  26. I wish I could say this is unbelievable but with the Political climate in Hawaii (unfortunately it’s about the same as my home state of California. I hate it) this is completely believable. This criminal should have been kept in jail and held for the authorities from the mainland until extradition procedures are completed. That is unless the state where the crimes took place is as liberal as California and they let criminals go without prosecution. Come on Hawaii, get your stuff together and make it safe for tourists who travel a long distance to enjoy all that you have to offer.

    11
  27. that is so rediculous, why is there different rules for different people. You take a family of 5 and ship them back to the mainland but you harbor criminals and even consider just releasing them to the general public in Hawaii, where are the safety nets. This state really sucks!

    10
  28. So Ige stops paying customers and then pays for law breakers. I’m no financial genius but this doesn’t seem to work in the states favor. When guys like this beat the system you know the people in charge aren’t geniuses.

    19
  29. This begs the obvious question – without a vaccine card and not proof of a negative test, how were they even allowed to board an aircraft? This just shows that the whole process is flawed. That being said, they should not be allowed to remain in Hawaii. the one at the very least should be arrested for the serious crimes. They both should be made to repay the costs that have been incurred by the state and taxpayers. We dont want people like that in Hawaii.

    23
      1. Well perhaps there should be! Some airlines are checking vaccination/test results prior to leaving the mainland to get a pre-clearance bracelet. Saves time when arriving into Hawaii. It will keep these people from getting on airplanes. Step up Hawaii & Gov. Ige.

        2
  30. Just what we don’t want… people with apparently no place to live and wanted for crimes moving to Hawaii. I wish they could be sent back legally.

    8
  31. We’ve already footed the bill for 10 days in jail, might as well send them back to Louisiana if they don’t already have return tickets. Why should they get to stay? If they have active warrants, all the more reason to ship them back. Louisiana probably wants them back so maybe they can chip in on the airfare.

    8
  32. Aloha guys. Again, mahalo for your postings and info.
    A. Send them back.
    2. Charge them for their jail time. On top of the fine. (I doubt they can pay it…)
Don’t let this “type” think we’re soft. Make them an example.
So sorry. I’m tired of being nice!
