Island Air Buys Go! as Hawaiian Airlines Expands Inter-Island

Good News for Hawaii Inter-Island Travelers

It was announced late Thursday afternoon that Larry Ellison’s Island Air is buying Go! Airlines from Mesa. With stronger competition we anticipate the likelihood of better Hawaii airfares ahead. Recently we’ve seen one-way inter-island fares as high as $200+ one way. Stay tuned for more details as they are revealed while we keep our fingers crossed for some new Hawaii deals.

Island Air Buys Go!

Mesa will continue to operate the Go! fleet consisting of four CRJ-200 jets, while rebranding the company to become part of Island Air. That company has been in the process of moving from aged Dash-8 planes to a fleet of ATR-72 turboprops.

With the addition of Go!, Island Air will be able to better compete with Hawaiian Airlines inter-island. The combined Island Air plus Go! will serve the following island destinations: Honolulu, Hoolehua, Kahului, Kailua-Kona, Hilo, Lanai and Lihue.

Hawaiian Airlines Expands Inter-Island

This week Hawaiian Airlines has been busy expanding their inter-island presence as well. The company is getting ready to launch “Ohana by Hawaiian” service to Lanai and Molokai. Hawaiian Airlines has acquired two ATR-42 aircraft and plans to serve both Lanai and Molokai from Honolulu, each twice daily. While no date has been set, we expect the new services to begin shortly.

  1. I was very disappointed that after all these years Island air moved out of Kapalua. Since buying Go.. arroyos like to ser them go back there.

  2. Hopefully this merge will greatly improve the service. I had a horrible experience on GO and had written them off. Perhaps the new management will improve service and require the staff to display a more professional attitude Fingers crossed! Aloha!
