  1. Wear your MASK when you’re a bout and out doors along with others you don’t know!
Be smart and use it if you’re not in the same house hold

  2. In breaking news, a California judge has ruled against Gov. Newsom’s unconstitutional covid orders and even issued an injunction against further lockdowns by the governor.

Fear can only rule so long before people come to their senses. Yes, keep people safe but use common sense. Win. Win!

  3. Well said, Donna B. And remember health insurance doesn’t cover all services. You could be billed hundreds of thousands of dollars as your share for a long stay in the ICU. All because of ignorant people who don’t want to wear a mask.

  4. Where do I learn what is required to return home to Portland, Oregon, from Maui through Honolulu? Flying Hawaiian airlines. Do we need another Covid test or other paperwork?
    Thank you, Julie D

    1. Shame you feel like this when understanding that we don’t want the virus to get out of control due to ignorance on part of people who don’t get tested and blow off the quarantine rules. Hawaii and visitors go hand in hand, no thanks to our leaders here who have chosen to ride the backs of tourism and industry workers. Hospitality has been in my blood since the age of 5. Been in the industry for 34 years, and will most likely face challengers to the mandate here because there are people who think they are Royalty or just plain ignorant. Much Aloha to the ones that care. Mask up??

    2. Hey Fred,
Sorry you think we don’t want tourists. Well maybe just the ones that don’t want to help us be vigilant against this thing called COVID. The Aloha spirit still dwells here in the islands until disrespecting laws of mask wearing and social distancing are exploited.
No Aloha given for No Aloha to Hawaii. We just want to be an island of love with respect for one another. If you feel the rules here are too much, than don’t come to destroy our islands.

  5. If did your research and listened to the professional. Government trained OSHA mask experts Tammy Clark & Kristen Meghan join Del in-studio to break down vital info on masks, PPE, and their role in #Covid19 prevention. Every adult on this planet wearing a mask needs to hear this riveting discussion.

    1. Wear your MASK when you’re a bout and out doors along with others you don’t know!
Be smart and use it if you’re not in the same house hold

  6. Making a law requiring people to wear a mask for a virus with an extremely high survival rate, as well as highly successful treatment options is ridiculous. I would hope Hawaii would not become that draconian and tyrannical, unless the ultimate goal is to completely destroy Hawaii’s economy and the livelihoods of its residents. There is absolutely NO reason for people to be wearing masks. No one is wearing the correct mask and no one is wearing the masks properly even if they were the correct mask. This virus does not warrant people wearing them at all times – especially while exercising. Geez!! Who in their right mind would require that? And who in their right mind would comply to that? Its literal insanity. The masks are ONLY creating more strife in a time where so much contradictory and false information is causing confusion, stress and anger.

    Rant over. Thank you.

    1. Kimberly – That perspective is all well and good until someone you knows gets sick. Perhaps you do not have a grandmother or child with underlying health conditions. It is not about just catching the virus, but it is also about the potential health conditions that Corona virus survivors are saddled with, not to mention the costs to America’s health care system for the additional life long ailments that they have. For example, I know of a woman who was healthy, middle aged, ate well, and was a runner until she came down with the virus. She now has asthma, has to use an inhaler, and her kidneys were damaged. She is expected to make it to age 50 if she is lucky. I do not wish that on any person that I know, nor, because I am a compassionate person, any person. Wear a mask. It is a simple request and has been working on our island.

        1. Donna, why wasn’t your friend wearing her mask? And when you reply that she did wear her mask, think about why that mask didn’t work….

      1. Well said, Donna B. And remember health insurance doesn’t cover all services. You could be billed hundreds of thousands of dollars as your share for a long stay in the ICU. All because of ignorant people who don’t want to wear a mask.

    2. So Kimberly
I would assume then that if I had the flu you’d be totally ok with me sneezing right on right? I mean a mask doesn’t help so amd it’s comments like yours masks do no good that are exasperating this issue

      1. Hi Paul C. You can sneeze on me if its only the flu because I’ve taken this season’s vaccine. However, please mask up until there’s a Covid vaccine because if you are sick we can also assume you have Covid.

    3. Kimberly
Comments like yours only prove we should have tougher mask mandates if you are visiting. Yes, no masks and let our numbers escalate to crazy levels. I guess that is your dream to Hawaii. Screw up the people with COVID because you don’t want to wear a mask. Here’s a solution if you don’t live here, stay away. If you live here, go out and I promise you, you’ll be told to put your mask on. Don’t be a spud head!

      1. Sean im predicting trump will win. Most people do not think masks 🎭 are very effective.

And yea if you want tourists back and thus money for your state better respect and thank them for taking time to complain about the inaction of hawaii and confusing policies.

  7. Are face masks required while driving on Maui? There are large signs along the highways saying face masks are required but does that mean while actually driving? That would seem to be implied because the signage is along the highways.
    Thank you, Julie

  8. How about you all just stay home and let us deal with the pandemic first. Stop being selfish and increasing the risk of outbreaks by coming here. Of you really love Hawaii or cared about it and it’s people you’d stay away until it was safe to travel globally.

    1. Al – hawaii wIll never deal with the pandemic How it should. More time is not needed.

What is needed is back to normal pronto. They have had 6 months and really have not done anything other than insult tourists and destroying the tourism industry and all the islands jobs.

The military and national guard may need to be deployed to control the locals when they start rioting over food and money shortages etc. that is definitely a very real concern. People need to stop blaming covid for the islands problems because it is the government screwing up everything and the locals that support it.

    2. Al – how about vulnerable or nervous Hawaiians should stay home and everyone else can live how they want and go out into the world. Ive mentioned several places that are doing it.

And dont worry is even if everyone in hawaii gets covid Less than 1 percent of the People on the overcrowded islands will die. It wouldnt really even thin out the population noticeably. Especially oahu.

Life will go on most certainly, except the economy would be stronger and people would enjoy living Alot more in hawaii.

  9. Right, we had 0 in Kauai, as soon as tourism opened up, Kauai now get 6 cases. Stay home people! They are the 1s who cant follow rules and they think they can just go out with out wearing mask.

    1. Oh boy! 6 cases ok kaui?! Wow lets mess up the whole island just give up n go hide. Shut it all down.

Better yet if so afraid Then leave hawaii and move to south korea and china with the same draconian policies. You will be safe there away from the mongrels and common folk of usa.

Im 100% certain that myself and every tourist wanting to visit hawaii will be happy to take your homes and vehicles off your hands for you 😀 And all of your personal property too! Thanks!!

        1. Sandra
          Well put.

CF needs to stay away if he knows whats good for him.
Its people like him that have No business here.
          Shame on him
Complete disregard. Reminds me of someone i know who i hope to God gets out of office.

          1. Don’t worry elizabeth, just focus on hiding from me and any tourists and wearing your face diaper. Very few will visit anyway and most don’t want to deal with the bs.

    2. Do you not understand that not all of those new cases were visitors? Just because you hadn’t had any new positive tests for a while doesn’t mean there aren’t asymptomatic residents spreading the virus because not all residents are following the protocols either. Some of us “visitors” are visiting for personal reasons and have no problem following all protocols & laws to respect the state and its locals. To lump in all visitors as the bad guys is as ignorant as the people on here bashing Hawaii for its mandates. This is why our country is divided. People have stopped being kind & respectful to one another.

  10. Please, what is really needed is a quarantine policy across the islands that helps visitors comply and stay safe. There are stories of people being sent back even when they have documented negative test results right before leaving for Hawaii, and being willing to take another test on arrival. Isn’t this really enough? Any regulated testing entity that issues a documented test result should be accepted and bypass any quarantine requirements.

    Thank you.
    Ron

  11. Prior to coming to the islands, if anyone has done their due diligence, they would have learned that we have strict rules regarding COVID19. Understanding that travel maybe one’s prerogative, COVID 19 is not a vacation prompt. So to blame humans that their vacation is being ruined, COVID 19 is at fault. Many do not know that a virus wiped out more than 400,000 Hawaiians when the white man first came to the islands. Do they think we are concerned about their vacation?

    1. Bobbie B, yes it’s obvious the hawaii govt and people do t want tourists. They continue to blame and scapegoat tourists over covid. Locals like you repeatedly tell them they dont matter or dont understand native Hawaiians.

Again wake up your in America with open borders. Playing games with confusing mandates and open ended everything in hawaiians favor is called discrimination. In this case it is towards tourists and Americans not on the island.

Like i have said if hawaii wants to continue to push the envelope the military and federal government at some point can strip hawaii of its mandates, or courts of law etc.

Remember japenese internment camps from ww2, well this kind of behavior hawaii is embracing is treasonous and wrong. Hawaii is very misguided and personally i am done tolerating it.

    2. Well it was a polite request for a more easy to follow and sensible policy. Why does everyone have to be so defensive these days? I know it’s stressful but it really affects everyone.

  12. The obvious confusion and uncertainty in HI is the reason we and our friends decided to forego our trip to Ko Olina this year.
First time in 10 or 11 years no Hawaii for us.

  13. Would love to visit but there are far too many variables. Masks while sunbathing? Not having the right test upon arrival? Changing government mandates? No go.

  14. I understand all these mandates and policies. I dont think its much to ask. Be considerate of others and go about your own business. The deaths of millions of people from covid19 seems to have no affect on the living. Selfish.

    1. Jacelyn i do think its too much to ask. And i beg to differ. I dont agree with you, nor does my family most of my friends and most of the people in the south midwest sweden and South Dakota.

      1. There is nowhere near millions of deaths in usa. The number is around 200k mostly from sick people in nursing homes and terminally ill. Most were purposely infected by the govt placing covid patients directly back into nursing homes to propegate and peddle this manufactured pandemic right along.

By the way the usa has over 350 million people. 200k is one fifth of one million. That number is about 9 times annual flu deaths. Just fear all day every day when its not something most people need to worry about if they do get it. You eat healthy supplement excercize dont wear a mask unless you have ore existing stuff etc. has nothing to do with harming other people because they will not be around you if they are quarantining themselves

      2. CF-
There is no need for any of your comments. You have already clearly stated you won’t visit Hawaii due to the regulations they want to put on their own state. This site is for us who like to keep updated and get clarification on what is happening so we can visit or for those who live their. Your “points of view” and “opinion” of what Hawaii is doing wrong that keep popping up in my inbox are not the updates I’m signing up for, it is nothing but a need to hear yourself speak and belittle the state itself because of your “freedom of speech”. Is their government being consfusing and not acting together to have clear, cohesive rules in place? Yes and Its happening everywhere im the US right now. But none the less the HI state as a whole does want a mask mandate in place, period. There are plenty of visitors who do not mind following the letter of the law of where we are visiting, not because we are blind or sheep or brainwashed, because we are visiting someone else’s home and that is the law they decided to set forth. You are welcome to visit anywhere else you feel more comfortable and they are happy to take your money. My brother is a biochemist in infectious diseases who has been working closely with this virus and written papers on it, so please do not be little me because following a mask mandate isn’t my point of view it is what that state has asked of me to be a visitor in their home and I will respect that.

    2. 2.5 million died of tb, 2.5 million in car wrecks (another 1.5 million maimed) 1 million plus from malaria. Why are you too selfish to care about those deaths, and instead ruin the economy for billions worldwide for an overblown flu? There’s gonna be a lot more dead if you stop caring about the living….

      1. Thanks ace d. No one mentioned the growing homeless population. Its the most in the nation in hawaii. No one cares about them if they die. Theres no mandate to house the homeless etc

  15. It is against the law to ask someone to prove to you they have a medical exemption!! There are big fines and potential lawsuits for doing so. If you have medical issues that prevent you from wearing a mask you are exempt and not required to provide private medical information to anyone.

    1. Very true. No mask for medically exempt people. The law protects businesses too. If a business chooses to refuse service for any reason they have that right. Get someone else to pick up your groceries Use Uber. Call a friend. We refuse the right to serve people who do not wear footwear. Trust me, no mask no service! Find another way to get your food!

      1. Under the Americans with Disabilities act, if your business discriminates against people that can’t wear masks for medical reasons, they can own your business and get rid of you and your discriminatory ways. Just a heads up 🙂👍

    2. Its just common sense that when you as a visitor on any Hawaiian Island or on vacation, you should already know that wearing a Mask is a Must due to the Covid 19. Its not hard to put on a MASK. Respect the island you are visiting and the people by wearing a MASK. Protect yourselves and others around you, no reason to fuss. Thats the ALOHA thing to do.

      1. You got it Lani.
Its a shame Aloha is not understood.
Its as simple as keeping distances and wearing the mask.
im seeing the postings on this and its really annoying.
Total lack of understanding and respect.
Its a scientifically case based reality that this strain of covid is damaging beyond the cold.
Everyone knows this. Just wait people and allow the islands the chance to maintain itself.
If the tables were turned you would do the same.

Do as the Romans do when in Rome people

Not impose what you want in a place you font live.

    3. Correct abbi thanks for clarifying that. Most people do not know anything about the medical exemption. I wonder if the police in hawaii would even honor it though? If they dont well maybe you can win big money.

  16. Why are there tourists anywhere? In Hawai’i? On the mainland? Are they not aware of the dangers of interacting with people they don’t know? Tourism is precisely how we got COVID-19 here in the first place. I hope there’s someone who can correct the dangerous policies that open us up to disease in the Middle of a Pandemic! This is crazy!!

    1. Makbeth k, the tourists are coming for you! Lol

But yes, They really will come if people like it or not because its America and open borders. Live with and deal with it like a mature adult. Like the rest of the country.

      Go hawaii!

      1. CF

You have no business here. Your attitude and disrespect is clear on these posts.
Please stay over there where you belong.

If you know what is good for you.

Its not about fear, this is about being smart.
You remind me of the unconscionable person we have in office. Hopefully he can move on to the jail time he is facing and maybe you can join him.
Stay away from Hawaii. Its people like you…people like you.

        You dont belong.

        1. Lizzy – No, same response as elizabeth. You need to treat tourists and Americans with respect because they are fellow Americans and they pay for hawaii to function. Not agreeing with much of what hawaii is doing does not make me part of the problem, or a bad guy.

Just because your hawaiian doesnt give you a get out of jail free card or liscence to police tourists or threaten people etc. You may not like it, but you can stay safe at home while others get on with thier lives. They will do so regardless of what you think.

          1. CF
You do t get to roll into anywhere and decide you set the rules. Not how it works at all. If you don’t like Hawaii’s rules you just feel free to not go. They are under no obligation to treat you any way at all. As a matter of fact more Japanese visit Hawaii than Americans so there is also that fact. You dont seem to work as you are always on here replying to every post. I’m not trying to be rude and I know I comment as well but back off the hate pedal a little and allow others to express their thoughts. I’ve been in class tact with a number of Hawaiian businesses and locals and all want people to come back but also to respect their home. I do and that’s why we are being patient and will go when the time is right

          2. Thank you for your validation Paul.

            CF
we are not making you out to be a bad guy.
            As Paul has said
Hawaiian folks themselves are staying put on island as well as mainland so as to not to unintentionally spread anything.
            Once again
Complete lack of respect for the island.
And to making threats like you did about taking local peoples personal property and homes?? Whoaa.
            Once again,
Stay where you belong, behind your screen and over there.

People like you give a bad reputation to those tourists who actually get it.
Hopefully the moderator here can see what you are writing and boot your okole off.

            Thankyou

          3. Hi Lizzy.

We have very specific comment guidelines that have morphed over the years. We try to closely adhere to them, albeit not that easy, especially in these times.

            Aloha.

          4. Mahalo
            Beat of Kauai.
I understand that i needd to be respectful.
I dont think thst CF should be allowed to post as he has pretty much insulted, threatened folks on this site.
I guess its hard to stay quiet when you read these things.
            Nothing constructive just slamming Hawaii.
Again apologies if i was rude, just calling it like i see it.
Here peopleneed to be respectful and kind and informative.

            Xo

          5. Hi Lizzy.

Thanks for your comment. We appreciate your thoughts and take them seriously. We have a carefully thought out comment policy and try our best to adhere to it. That may change further over time.

            Aloha.

          6. Lizzy,
CF is a troll that seems to really hate Hawaii for some reason. Just ignore him. The site for whatever reason lets him drone on and on and on 🙂 I have a hard time ignoring him as well.

  17. Incompetence is the word that describes Hawaii state and local leadership. Look at the numbers vs the effects on the economy. It will take Hawaii years to recover meanwhile local families have $0 income schools r closed unemployment is rampant. Have any government employees been forced to take pay cuts? Every policy that comes out has not been throughout. Sadly these incompetent idiots will win re-election.

  18. Common Sense, please!! It’s our second week on Maui. Deserted resorts and beaches. Lahaina is a boarded up ghost town. With occupancy rates between 10-15% the Hotels are going to shut down again and restaurants, at 50% capacity, are not going to make it. It’s a very different stay this time and I am not surprised about the many comments indicating delays in visiting. To make not wearing a mask a criminal offence is simply absurd. The wearing of masks on the beach is simply utterly nonsense. The responsible parties simply need to use some common sense and figure out how to get the economy back on track by offering paradise and not $5000 fines and up to a year in jail.

  19. Please be kind to your visitors. I was just in Hawaii and it felt more like a communist community than an American one. I enjoyed the people and my time there, however I would like to see more people given the opportunity to make their own decisions about how to practice safety. I understand Hawai’i is an island but the cases are very low.

  20. Please have respect for our Islands and the people who live here. Everyone knows wearing a mask, washing your hands, and social distancing saves lives and is the easiest way to control the spread of COVID19! We all need you to do your part… Mahalos

  21. Locals are not following these guidelines like they should especially in the Kona area. Why aren’t they being watched?

We were not around anyone before we moved here, wore masks on the mainland, kids homeschooled for years before this and not exposed. Took the pre-test (Vault is kid friendly) and post (airport) and cleared them so we didn’t have to quarantine.

Get here and pray we were not exposed over the long trip. Still sticking to ourselves for the most part and wearing masks. Go to Kona to get groceries and take care of business and in 5 secs someone without a mask comes up to our car talking to our kids through the open window not 6 feet apart. Couldn’t react in time and my kids didn’t have their masks on yet.

Why would someone do this? I am so worried and the thought of exposure has made me ill. We’ve planned to move here for years! Then COVID-19 happened. It is not going away anytime soon and even with the unpopular methods Hawaii has done, they have actually kept their numbers down. It is actually safer for us here than the mainland where cases are in the hundreds of thousands.

I just can’t believe a local would be so careless and with someone else’s kids. If being so far removed from the deaths and cases on the mainland makes people here think it is not real or not a big deal, well I just don’t know what to say.

I am praying that the low case numbers here will make it so this person is not carrying it.

I just think when it comes to life and death we should care enough about each other to think about the consequences of our actions. Children can die from Covid-19 too!

I rather be rich in life than money. Please both locals and visitors wear a mask! Resources on an island is low. Once hospitals overflow here, where will people go?

If Hawaii doesn’t protect itself there will be mass deaths and devastation and will the mainland help or talk about where Hawaii went wrong?

  22. Please, when in doubt, wear the mask…
In other words, as soon as you walk out the door… have the mask on! If you get in the car put the mask on before you get out of the car. If eating out, wear the mask until the food is in front of you. When you’re done eating, put the mask on even if you’re still going to have some drink… Just wear the mask at all times! Get new tan lines, mask lines visitors! Hahaha no seriously, wear the mask whenever you’re out. That goes for anyone on the Islands! Listen to your government, but make practical and safe decisions on your own! Duh. You have no business visiting Hawaii, if you don’t even know what the general safety precautions are… Wear the mask whenever you’re outside!

  23. I have now had to postpone my vacation 2 times with all of this. Unfortunately Hawaii can not get its act together lacking any clear directions for travelers. The result is that my family has decided not to go back and move our next vacation to Playa De Carmen. So sad for Hawaii and its people.

  24. This is what happens when Liberal fools run your state. First the politicians cut their own throats by imposing draconian shutdowns and shelter in place that have proven do not work and decimate the economy. Then one hand doesn’t know what the other hand is doing. Welcome to the paradise nation of Fools.

  25. Aloha,. Would love to see my daughter who lives in Hawaii. She will have to come to the mainland to see her family because we feel very unwelcomed there!

  26. Please understand that Hawaiians have been led to fear the virus and do not want it to invade their state.
During a recent visit to Maui, entry was smooth and the people were great. But they did mostly request we wear masks while in businesses. Most walking sidewalks and in beaches were not wearing masks. I was not told that my gaiter was not accepted and write it the full week.
Go! They need our tourist money. Many coded businesses, some probably for good

  27. Why isn’t Hawaii getting the news and research MASKS do not work mainly now it’s for psychological comfort. Please do the research .Stop being sheep

  28. My wife & I are flying to Maui from NY and transferring from LAX to Kahalui. Our problem is NOT the mask. It’s the pre-flight testing. Results are not sent from the so called “trusted safe travel partners”. Walgreens is the worse by far.My son and grandson got the Covid19 test at Walgreens last Wednesday Oct 28.Their flight was Saturday Oct.31.They still had no results that morning. They flew to San Francisco and still no results. They went to a separate terminal to get tested by another safe travels partner United airlines.$500 later they had the results and barely made it back to the original terminal for their United flight to Oahu.It was much confusion there also. Finally they got rental car and drove to Aulani. Then while getting supplies @Walmart he was confronted by a women who bluntly asked him ‘what r you doing here’s.That made my son and our 10 yr old grandson miserable the last 3 days. This is ‘Mahalo’.If you didn’t have tourists willing to travel 5000 miles to help your economy you may have zero visitors. Then let’s see if Hawaii can survive. We have put out $5,500 already for our trip Nov.16 & my wife & I are now scared to go be to Maui

  29. Planning a trip to Maui but I’m on vacation & wearing a mask on beach in fresh air is ridiculous. Maybe I need to rethink my plans. I’m responsible but I “won’t be Policed” while I’m on vacation. Please decide what the rules are now it affects people vacations.

    1. Masks are bacteria diapers that inhibit oxygen and create virus and bacteria petri dishes, so that if someone is actually sick, they’ll blast a huge spray of virus and bacteria all over the place, in addition to breathing it in. Humans aren’t meant to wear masks, and only a fool buys into the claim that breathing air is a crime.

  30. Focusing on innovative cures, and how to maintain strong healthy immunity can help bring peace of mind.
Enjoy safe happy holidays Peace & Aloha
1 life lost is 1 too many.

  31. I am going to Maui for my first time in January (hopefully). Am I going to regret this? Any comment will be helpful. Thank you.
