  1. Aloha!
Looking to book RT from SLC to OGG March of 2021. Any idea on what price I should look for and when is best time to book?
    Mahalo for any advice!

    1. Hi Julie.

Can’t say with any specificity. Depends on time of month and day of week. Looks like end of March will be peak of spring break. Plan on perhaps $300-$450 RT. Book either early when released or towards the end for best price and early for best availability option.

      Aloha.

  2. Can you please help me booking for our family of 4 to Maui in the Spring of 2020 (April 4 – April 11)? Southwest is our preferred airline because of points and potential companion pass (we’re so close to our next one!) Our home airport is STL so we know we have a connecting flight before a flight to Hawaii. Thank you so much!

    1. Hi Cori.

That is a very challenging time – peak of spring break. Probably best to lock that down ASAP since you can’t expect there to be better pricing ahead.

      Aloha.

  3. Aloha. Thanks for the most recent update to the Southwest fares. We were able to purchase two RT HNL to Hilo tickets for $104! We will use these for a day trip to the Big Island during our Oahu stay in April. Hoping for the same sort of fares later in the month to one of the other islands. Will follow closely. Thanks so much for keeping us informed!

  4. Good evening & aloha! Much thanks for the updates. We are visiting next April, and were able to purchase a pair of the Honolulu to Hilo SWA tickets $104. What a bargain – thanks to you. Mahalo nui 🙏

  5. Is booking gonna be available in June for these deals? I’m looking to fly to Maui from Sacramento Ca on June 9th and return the 14th.

  6. Aloha trying to get a round trip from Hilo to Pittsburgh in early Dec. My dates are flexible but have a doctor’s appt. On the 12th. Return around 19 of dec. Any ideas? Maholo Tom W

    1. Hi Tom.

If you can go earlier and/or return by the 17th in any event, you’ll save $500! Otherwise expect to pay about $1,300 RT as you’ll be in holiday season.

      Aloha.

  7. Hi, any idea when (or if) the SAN Diego to Honolulu Southwest flights at $99rt are expected to be announced?

  8. We live in Kansas and are wanting to go to the Big Island the middle of January 2020. Can you help with the least expensive way to get there. The nearest airport is out of Tulsa Ok.
    Thanks,
    Mary

    1. Hi Mary.

It will cost just under $750 RT with one stop and a good connection. Or for $100 less you’ll end up spending nearly 24 hours with stops. That is available now. Best sms to be United via Denver.

      Aloha.

  9. Can you please help me booking for two?
Flying out from Sacramento to Honolulu on March 3, 2020 and returning on 3/09/2020.
    Thank you

    1. Hi Belete.

Lowest price outbound on SW is now $159. Return date is outside of their current availability and will be released later. Look for more sale prices ahead from all the carriers.

      Aloha.

  10. I just got a round trip ticket on very first SW flight to Kauai and added my wife with companion pass!!! WOOT WOOT!!!

  11. Hello Guys!

So based on what I am reading none of these new Routes start until January, is that accurate?

Thanks again for staying on top of this!

    1. Hi Jim.

That’s correct, unless something changes. They would have much preferred to start earlier to capture the holiday travelers. It must just not have been feasible with the aircraft availability issues.

      Aloha.

      1. Doh! That is disappointing…Lisa and I were hoping to get there this Fall with some deals. Looks like we will be flying Hawaiian in October then, as their prices are still more than competitive…going to get it booked before prices go up. 🙁

On a positive side note, we are likely going to get to Kauai next year, with our resort points, so maybe we can buy you guys a coffee, when the time comes? Take care and (as always) we look forward to following the future developments of SWA through Beat of Hawaii!

        Much Aloha!

        1. Hi Jim.

Yes, you’re on for coffee. Just let us know. This has been hard for Southwest and their customers to figure out. Not very much communication, and lots of complication from the prolonged absence of their new fleet. Hopefully this will get straightened out sooner than later.

          Aloha.

          1. Aloha BoH! Just a quick update about SWA flight bookings:

Recently, I was able to talk to an SWA employee to try and understand why their online booking system allows me to book flights from SMF to ITO, yet has no flights on their calendar from ITO to SMF as a return (or starting) route at any time after their Jan. 19th starting date. I found that their booking system apparently forces you to book multiple flights to go back from Hilo to the Mainland at this point. So, if you are having issues finding return flights on their calendar from the Outer Islands, (Oahu/Honolulu works fine) to West Coast cities know that you will have to book multiple tickets, at least for now. It is similar to how you would have to book from the East Coast to the West Coast, then book another ticket from The West Coast to Hawaii.

The Employee I talked with confessed that she and other employees, that do phone bookings, are just as frustrated, because it requires more work for them to book flights also. She also said they were ever so slowly adding connections in their system. At this point, it remains to be seen how long it will take to iron out the inconveniences within their booking system. Let’s hope it’s sooner rather than later?

            Take care!

  12. As far as I can see, the SW calendar has not yet been posted beyond Jan 5th. So booking dates past that is not yet possible

  13. Anyone else having problems booking a Feb flights to Kauai? I found the date and click to select the flight and it keeps giving me an error.

  14. I just checked the Southwest website and didn’t find any $99 fares for Jan or Feb; cheapest price showing one way is $139. Where are the special deals? Thank you.

    1. Hi Pam.

You didn’t say exactly what you were searching for. Availability was as indicated when published.

      Aloha

      1. Aloha! I didn’t get in on the $99 tickets but I got an even better deal. I just redeemed my Hawaiian Miles and got 2 roundtrip tickets to Maui for less than $200! And that was with the extra comfort seat upgrade! See you in October, Maui! Mahalo for all the info you provide!

  15. Please notify me of good airfare deals for 2 adults from Phoenix, AZ to Maui HI departing on Sat 3/7/2020 and returning on Sat 3/14/2020.

    Thank you

  16. Looking for flt for 2 adults from Kona to Las Vegas or Oahu to Las Vegas $500 is the best rate for October 10-11 to October 14-15 are there any deals you can recommend?

  17. My son and daughter in law are expecting their first child in January, 2020. They live on the army base in Honolulu. We, family of 4, will be going for 2 weeks in January. What is the best airlines and cheapest?

  18. My family of 4 is looking to for flights to HNL from the California Bay Area or Sacramento. Dates are October 12 (a Saturday) or 13th – October 19 (a Saturday) or 20th. Right now best I have found is $440/person round trip on Alaska. Should I try and do better than that?

  19. Hello,

Shall Southwest offer flights from ITO (Hilo, Hawaii) to HNL (Honolulu, Hawaii)?

    Thank you.

    1. Hi Cody.

The answer is almost definitely yes. You may need to wait some number of months, however, for that to happen.

      Aloha.

  20. Hi, I am looking to fly last week of June returning first week of July from SMF to OGG. Can you confirm if SouthWest will be flying to OGG then? Do you know which islands SouthWest will beflying to? Wondering if I should hold out on booking for SouthWest’s release to Hawaii islands, but not sure as I have no idea which island they will be flying to upon their initial release for the Hawaiian island flights. Thanks!

  21. My wife and I plan to vacation in Kona, Hawaii from 2/15/20 through 2/29/20. I know the airlines don’t book flights that far in advance. We will depart from Kansas City to one of the California airports, then on to Kona, Hawaii. We are Southwest Rapid Rewards members with 60,000+ points as of today. I can’t find any information about the cost (points or dollars) about approximately how much our flights will cost. From getting on the Southwest web site and reading comments on your web site, it appears that Southwest is still expanding the cities it flies to Hawaii from. Any advice about when/where to book, also Southwest vs. other airlines? Thanks.

    1. Hi Mike.

It will remain two separate cash or rewards tickets and that won’t change for now. California gateways to Kona in February, mid-week, will probably be about $150 each way, give or take.

      Aloha.

  22. Hi there, my partner and I are planning a trip to Kauai in October. We will be flying out of Tucson. Can we assume that we will be able to build an itinerary with a stop in one of the CA cities that Southwest will be flying direct to Kauai from starting in May sometime? And, if so, do you think a good deal will be possible? Best flights on other airlines are $750-800 right now.

  23. I’m already booked with Southwest from Albany NY to San Jose in October ($200). Staying over one night in San Jose then fly direct to Honolulu ($179). Currently there are inter-Island flights with Southwest scheduled then from Honolulu to Maui ($49). The next leg of my flight will be Maui to Kauai for 3 nights then back to Honolulu for 2 nights then fly direct to JFK via Hawaiian Air ($393). Car rental from JFK to Albany one way ($130 for two couples – 7 passenger van).
Currently there are no Southwest flights from Maui to Kauai or Kauai to Honolulu. What’s the chances that Southwest will offer thes flights by October?

    1. Hi Robert.

The odds are very high that Southwest will be on those inter-island routes in October.

      Aloha.

  24. Any idea when direct flight to San Diego will be announced, I thought it would be announced with the inter island flights.

  25. I’m so very glad to have found this site. Thank you, Thank you for your insight.

I’m looking to travel from Sacramento (or Oakland if we had to) to Kauai in mid June. Would you recommend we keep holding out for the Southwest flights out of Sacramento or find what’s best out there right now? If we should wait, when do you expect the Sacramento flights to be posted?
    Thanks for your input.

    1. Hi Amy.

Yes we think they will be flying and yes you might as well wait. It should be within weeks at this point.

      Aloha.

    2. I’m looking for flights to Kauai around Aug 29-Sep 3, for Labor Day. I will be starting from St Louis. Should I wait for Kauai to open and what city or cities will I need to find another flight to? Any tips on how to coordinate these? I will have earned a Companion Pass soon and want to use it on a Kauai trip. Thanks!

      1. Hi Marilyn.

That will be two separate trips. One from a from St. Louis and one from a west coast departure city. We should know more about those other west coast flights soon, per what we published today.

        Aloha.

  26. Hi, I’ve been following your articles for a couple of months. We are looking to fly from Sacramento CA to LIh for my twin daughters 21st birthday in end of July or possibly Aug. 12. Do you think Southwest will be flying there then or should I be looking else where. Would like a suggestion of when to purchase and with whom. Thanks for all the great articles. Love the info!

    1. Hi Karen.

Yes we expect to have Southwest flying from Sacramento this summer and would be extremely surprised if not. Stay tuned. Shouldn’t be too very much longer.

      Aloha.

  27. We’re trying to find flights from Seattle to Oahu in mid-June for under $500. I’ve been checking every few days and haven’t seen any price drops yet. Should I keep waiting much longer? Your website is ono – Mahalo!!!

    1. Hi Tom.

Thanks for that! Seattle a bit stuck on pricing, although it isn’t really bad. $518 RT for mid June is still to be considered reasonable. Not sure if it will improve. Gut call is that it may not.

      Aloha.

  28. When will Southwest flights from Oakland to Kauai be available traveling November 23 and returning November 30. Please let me know. Thank you.

      1. When you say that release is expected on May 23, does that mean when Southwest will announce the flights, or when the flights will begin? My family is trying to go from SLC to Hawaii, planning on island hopping from HNL to LIH. Just wondering when the soonest I can hope to plan.

        Thanks!

        1. Hi MaryLyn.

May 23 is the next schedule extension. That is when already announced flights will be available for travel through the holidays. We should have more information about additional routes very soon.

          Aloha.

  29. I’m looking for flights to Kauai from mainland (I’m in Salt Lake
City) I’m sure I’ll have to have 1 stop, for the end of July
returning the first week of August. When do you expect
    those flights to be listed?
    Thanks so much!

    1. Hi Holly.

We don’t have any expectation of those connections happening right now. Otherwise $580-$700 RT on multiple airlines. Not likely to improve by waiting.

      Aloha.

  30. About 26 lfamily and 30-years of long time friends are traveling from OAK, SFO, SAN to HNL on August 3-11. Only two families have gotten their flights. Any idea when we can buy our flights for under $400/pp Round Trip?

  31. We are traveling from Buffalo, NY around May 6, 2019 to Maui and returning May 16 from Kauai. Our return date is firm. Any tips on booking flights as far as layovers, leg room, airline restrictions?
    Thank you!

    1. Hi Theresa.

Looks like $620 (2-stops) to low $700’s (1-stop) is as good as it will get. Delta seems to have the best connections, and the 2-stop is the fastest at just under 15 hours each way. Not an easy trip, unless you would prefer to stop over somewhere in between. That may not save money, just wear and tear.

      Aloha.

    2. Take a look at flying out of Toronto instead of Buffalo. You can normally save a few hundred dollars per person.

  32. Hi! Trying to fly from San Diego to Honolulu in September. Will direct flights be added on southwest? Right now September fares don’t seem great so I’m holding off on buying. Any advice? Thanks! Love your website!

    1. Hi Anna.

Thank you. We do think those flights will be added before then. Suggest holding off for a couple of months.

      Aloha.

      1. Hi, thank you for all the wonderful emails and advice! I am similarly trying to fly from San Diego to Honolulu for my honeymoon Oct 7 -14. However, the prices are high and it seems the only deals even being advertised are from Oakland or San Jose. Do you think that San Diego will ever get the $99 deals or even just deals period, or is it a different market so they can charge higher? Appreciate any insight 🙂

        1. Hi Brian.

Yes we do expect to see more eye-popping fares on release of San Diego flights, so stay tuned for that in not distant future. If your dates aren’t initially on sale, don’t despair, they are likely to be added thereafter.

          Aloha.

    1. Sharon, my husband and I live in Tampa and we are going to Hawaii in May. I was able to book a 6:30am flight from Orlando to San Fran(SFO). We have about 30 hours until our flight leaves Oakland (OAK) to Maui (OGG). We then fly from Kona (KOA) to Oakland. Then Oakland to Orlando. It was the cheapest option I found… I used points but I believe it was about $450 – $500 round trip for each of us.

  33. Love reading all of your updates and advice so thank you for that.
We are looking at flying out of MSP to LIH January 2020. How far in advance do you suggest we purchase tickets for the best price with the most direct flight?
    Maholo!

    1. Hi Darla.

Rule of thumb is start looking about 90 days ahead. Having said that, best price is going to be about $500, which might include excessive connection times. Right now there’s a fare on Delta of $610 RT with a fast connection at LAX. Suggest that’s a good buy if you’re ready to purchase.

      Aloha.

  34. Hey! I have 5 friends hoping to go to Oahu May 23rd-29th, but open to anything after May 18th through June. We would fly from Omaha, NE. Advice?

    1. TAYLOR K – try looking at flights from Omaha to PHX and then from PHX to Oahu (a stop in Oakland). Play with the dates. You may hit on something. I see round trips from Phoenix now but some are sold out. Hope you make it!! If you see something that works, jump!!
