Southwest Airlines launched a new island sale offering up to 40% off on Hawaii flights with their exclusive promo code. This opportunity is worth checking if you plan a trip between December 3, 2024, and May 22, 2025. Here’s what you need to know to make the most of the deal.
The 40% off Hawaii deal at a glance.
This limited-time sale requires tickets to be purchased from November 12-14, 2024. The 40% discount applies to base fares on flights between Hawaii and the Continental U.S. using the promo code HAWAII40.
This deal spans key winter snowbird and spring travel months, making it a good fit for spring break or other warm-in-winter Hawaii escapes. Blackout dates apply, however, so check your travel dates against those before booking.
Hawaii travel blackout dates to keep in mind.
Like most airfare sales, there are blackout periods for high-demand travel times.
Blackout Dates on Flights to Hawaii:
- December 18-28, 2024
- February 13-16, 2025
- March 17-April 19, 2025
Blackout Dates on Flights from Hawaii:
- December 28, 2024 – January 6, 2025
- February 21-23, 2025
- March 14-April 27, 2025
These dates may impact your ability to use this offer for spring break plans, though more flexible travelers should still find plenty of open dates to secure a discounted flight.
How to use the Southwest Hawaii promo code.
To claim the discount, enter HAWAII40 in the Promo Code box on Southwest.com during the booking window. The discount will appear as a strike-through on eligible fares. Note that the 40% applies only to the base fare, before taxes and fees, and any changes made after booking will void the savings offer.
Is this Hawaii sale worth it?
Southwest has periodically offered Hawaii deals with promo codes, and traveler reviews have varied. Depending on routes and dates, some have found the full 40% discount challenging to secure.
While deals are available, prices may not always reach the maximum savings across all routes. It’s worth checking a few date combinations to see what options work best for your schedule and budget.
Also, compare Alaska, Hawaiian, and other airlines’ fares to ensure the savings meet your expectations.
What Southwest offers for Hawaii-bound travelers.
Southwest remains a solid choice for Hawaii travelers, especially when you price out competitive fares alongside perks like two free checked bags. These inclusions can offset other costs, making Southwest more competitive for most travelers. Just remember, Southwest’s Hawaii flights offer a no-frills experience without assigned seating at this time, which may be a consideration for some.
Final thoughts on the HAWAII40 sale.
Southwest’s latest promotion offers a window to save on Hawaii travel over the months ahead. Whether or not this sale meets your travel needs, it’s a reminder to keep an eye on Southwest’s promotions, as they frequently update deals to and from Hawaii. Checking multiple dates and routes will ensure you maximize any potential savings.

Today is 11/15/24 and it says the promotion code is already expired. 🙁
Hi Rhonda.
The article says that it expired yesterday and sure enough it expired yesterday.
Aloha.
I was trying to book using Hawaii40 promo code. Do I have to put in my credit card info 1st before I can access the code? I didn’t want to pay before I can see where to apply. Thank you!
Just heard on the news that there is an extreme airline traffic controller shortage. Most working are overworked and stressed out. Of the 3000 it would need to hire to meet demands only 1800 are in training at this moment and not in the workplace. It also stated during the holiday’s expect flight cancellations because of this issue. Just because you get a great deal don’t mean it’s set in stone.
I noticed BOH mentioned up to 40% and maximum discount not on all routes. Blackout dates from Hawaii March 14-April 27th. That’s six weeks. Just remember the $98 imposed reservation fee or seat assignment fee that was imposed on all flights to hawaii. Most of the time one way is a great deal and the return second leg is twice as much.
As a Southwest regular, the company is really trying my patience. I have been checking for the past week for a one stop from OGG to DEN. The sale price lowered their fares about $110 but generally only for the redeyes, and increased the only good daytime connection thru OAK by $60.
I think this airline company is on the wrong path and they are shooting themselves in the foot. I don’t see their moves are sustainable unless they see a new bunch of customers seeking overnight flights.
