Once I have survived (hopefully) contracting or been given a highly effective vaccine against the disease or highly effective antivirals are developed that I can travel with then I will travel back to my beloved Maui. This virus is going nowhere. Only through a herd immunity of 60-80% or an effective vaccination rate of 80-90% can we hope to loosen the grim reaper’s hold on the 3-5% mortality rate.

We have our timeshare booked for the first week of November. Thank you fork keeping us updated. I’m hoping we will get to visit our favorite place by then. Will be looking to your articles for airfare.
Jackie

To see how everything goes. Hoping all of this
Will be under control will see . I will wait before I cane
I cancel my trip. Aloha
Hi Doris.
Thanks.
Aloha.
We have reservations on Maui for January 2021 for a 10 day stay.
We have condos reserved on Kauai to celebrate our 50th wedding anniversary at the end of August. We’ve been watching airfare because there will be 12 of us; our kids & their spouses as well as 6 grandkids. We have been to the islands many times with other family and friends but this will be the first trip for 2 adults and all grandkids. We have Hawaiian points to use for some of the fare. Can’t wait to share the island with others again. Love your website!
Hi Janet.
Thank you! If you are buying 10 or more tickets, have you checked with the airline group travel desks? You might be able to get 10% off – or more. It is all negotiable. Especially today.
Aloha.
Aloha-
We stay at Honua Kai in Maui a couple times a year. I just booked our summer trip on Alaska Air for the end of June through mid July. Wishing everyone on the islands good health and hope everything returns to normal soon.
Hi Rob.
Thanks.
Aloha.
We have flights booked to Maui on May 15th, then from Maui to Kaui on Hawaiian May 16th, returning back to Maui May 20th. Then flying back to Canada June 5th so our trip is in danger of not happening but time will tell.

Aloha and a big mahalo for keeping us Mainlanders informed. My wife and had a vacation to Kauai ( where we plan to retire in 2021) planned for 2-+ weeks in mid to late May, but that’s history with the Hawaii Air cancellations and Gov Ige’s 14-day quar antine. We would love to reschedule in 2020, but my wife is a highly skilled nurse, so trying to reschedule her vacation is challenging. And I think you’re correct – the minute we turn the corner Hawaii is going to be flooded with vacationers. Aloha
Hi Tom.
Thanks. We look forward to welcoming you back.
Aloha.
We are currently booked for mid September. I have my fingers crossed. 🙂
We have a resort and flights already booked for Kauai for Sept 16-23, then Oahu from Sept 23-26. Sure hope life is back to normal by then! Thanks for all your updates…they have been extremely useful over the years! Mahalo!
Hi Sherrie.
Thanks!
Aloha.
We typically go over my birthday – May 30th. Don’t think that will happen this year but maybe over my Mom’s birthday at the end of June. If not then in August or September for sure! We can’t wait to return! Thanks for keeping us up to date on all this, much appreciated. Mahalo!
Hi Kathleen.
Thank you!
Aloha.
We have a trip planned for the beginning of June. Everything is fully cancellable (which was the case even before ANY of this came up), but we’re hoping we don’t have to do that, as it will likely be next summer before we can make schedules work again! I was so excited that Southwest started flights to Hawaii, as we’ve been building points for flights, and of course we got some great fares when we booked (which I did as SOON as flights were released!).
We know the trip is a shot in the dark right now, but will just keep watching the situation and hope we are some of the first to be able to pump some money back into the Hawaiian economy! We are doing all the states and capitols with the kids, and this will be our 50th (in five years), so really hoping things improve in the next few months!
We had trip scheduled in March. Although we initially cancelled because of a broken leg, the COVID would have required it anyway. We were able to rebook the condo for next February and will do the same with the flights. Didn’t really have to cancel out.
We travel to Hawaii annually. Our next trip is already scheduled for February to March 2021.
We were possibly going in June, but the plan is definitely to go in Dec.
I googled “Hawaii travel on hold through May” but did not locate a source to confirm that. I own and manage a condo on Maui and have tickets to visit in May. 🙁
If you check Hawaiian Air online, I believe you will find their are no tickets for sale until May 20. I don’t know about the other airlines.
Aloha – first off you guys do a GREAT job of informing the Hawaii-starved year round. I certainly hope my annual stay come December will be a go as I have property there. Having said that, first the Cdn/US border would have to re-open for that to happen!!! — just another sniggy wiggy thing for us Canadians to have to think about. Let’s just all pray that Sylvia Brown’s prediction in her 2004 published book before her death holds true…and also that we all have $$ to travel with and that the airlines can withstand this blow. Be strong, well and safe everyone.
Hi Lyn.
Thank you!!
Aloha.
I planned a road trip for the summer this year. If the virus is over for the hot months of the year, I’ll still go on my road trip around the western U.S. If not, I’ll forgo traveling this year.
Hi all,
My husband and I have planned a Maui trip mid August- mid September 2020….hopefully we’ll still be able to go!! I had been on ” Beat of Hawaii” checking airline prices but am glad it was a little too far out on the calendar to purchase! We do have a place to stay; reserved as of now….. Please keep us informed of what is happening as I feel more connected to the Islands through your site, Thanks for all you do and to all islanders we hope you’ll come back strong .Take care…Aloha!
Hi Carol.
Thank you!
Aloha.
On what basis do you say that “travel to Hawaii is on hold through May?” Did you mean until May? Thorough May sounds like through the end of May.
We haven’t missed a trip to Maui in 25 years and currently are booked on Hawaiian Air for June 4-July 3. We haven’t given up lanako’u mana’o, but we need to make a decision soon or risk losing money for our accommodations. But if Maui remains under quar antine, we’ll have no choice but to stay home in California and listen to our Hawaiian music. Btw We highly recommend
Island Style – ‘Oiwi E | Song Across Hawai’i | Playing For Change Collaboration on you tubeto keep the hawaii vibe going. Laki maika’i everyone.
Jim & Leslie
Hi Jim and Leslie.
Thanks.
Aloha.
Will be on Maui last week of August and first week of October!
We will get past this!!
HI, thanks so much for all of your updates. We have tickets booked for May 26 from San Diego to KOA via HNL on Southwest. We don’t plan on cancelling unless we are forced to. Hoping and praying the worst of this will be past us by then!
Hi Heidi.
Thank you.
Aloha.
I still have flights and condo in Maui booked for mid May at this point. If as I suspect, I have to cancel, I intend to travel before the end of the year. But whether it is still to Maui Depends on cost, if rebooking is a bunch more I may go elsewhere.
We have a timeshare reservation for NOv.27-Dec. 8in Kauai. I do wonder if all these people are still going this year if we should get our airline tickets sooner than the 60 days I was planning.
We hope travel bans will be lifted soon. We are hoping we can make our annual Christmas holiday trip In 2020!
We’re booked to fly to Kona 5/13/2020. Haven’t heard from Hawaiian regarding a refund. Without that info from them it is hard to try to make plans for a new trip. We absolutely will be going to Kona maybe in the fall of 2020?
We have abandoned both of our flying vacations for 2020, one was to the islands. We won’t fly until COVID is over and done, after the risk of return COVID flare-ups has abated. While vacationing, we don’t want to confront any risk of confinement.
At the end of the year, we will determine what we can do in 2021. As retirees in Seattle, Hawaii is a quick and easy trip when bargain fares are found.
I’ve rescheduled my early May trip to Kauai out to late September/early October. However, depending on the next few months, I may wait until there’s a viable vaccine. I don’t want to be a carrier to the islands.
We will travel in the Fall, (or even late Summer) conditions allowing, BUT we won’t be leaving the West Coast. We have, however, already placed a hold on our rental in Hanalei for Many 2021.
We had a trip planned for May to Maui. We postponed until October 1. Southwest was very accommodating in helping to change our reservation. Also the two condos we had reserved, one in Wailea and later on in kaanapali worked with us to accommodate our changes. We will definitely keep going to Maui at least once each year. We wish all our fellow travelers good luck in making changes.
We have a first time family trip to Hawaii Alaska in late July and early August, we are a family of 5 and have everything booked. Do you see this trip happening? I know you can’t predict everything but what do you think?
Planning on going to Hawaii in July. Hope it happens. We already had to cancel a European trip in April
My husband and I plan to return to Hawaii on November 2020. We will visit Kaua’i and stay in Princeville at The Cliffs.
Mahalo for all the great information you provide. We hope to return in February 2021 for our annual trip. Hotel is already booked Stay safe and healthy! 🌺🌈🤙
Hi Elizabeth.
Thanks! Great to hear from you and glad to hear you’re already booked for next year.
Aloha.
We have current flight plans for 5/5/20 and haven’t changed them. Per your recommendation we are awaiting official word from Hawaiian Airlines on cancellation. When that happens we will look at current flight availability and book accordingly when fares/ accommodations are favorable to our budget.
We’ve followed your fare alerts for several years and jump when we can. Currently our r/t from San Diego to Lihue is $187. Hope to see it again!
Mahalo for your publication. I’ve shared your advice multiple time on Kauai social media groups.
Hi Gary.
Thanks and best wishes.
Aloha.
Orlando Florida to Honolulu on American 4-20-20. 11 nights in Waikiki.
On to Kihei Maui for 19 nights.
Planning for same time next year.
Really sad but nothing we can do.
Had been planning trip for a year.
Hopefully next year.🤘🌴🤘
We have plans to go to the Big Island in December as we have every year for a decade. Tickets are purchased, car and condo are secured. I wish it was time to pack now!
Assuming things get back to normal, our plan is to delay our trip until next April (one year out) to spring break 2021. Thank you for all the great updates!
Hi Amy.
Thanks!
Aloha.
Thanks for all the Hawaii updates! My husband and I have plans to return to Hawaii in late January 2021, which is our usual time to visit annually. We have our accommodations already reserved and really, really hope things are fine by then. It would be so sad to not be able to go. We send our love to all Hawaiians!!
Hi Glenna.
Thank you!
Aloha.
We have reservations for the Big Island and Honolulu at the end of August for our 50th wedding anniversary. I sure hope we don’t have to cancel.
