  1. We’ve been on Hawaii, Maui and Kauai. We only had that uncomfortable/unwelcome feeling on the Big Island. Unfortunately, we were made to feel that by the locals, both at a local beach and by the people working at our hotel. Never felt that way on Kauai. The North Shore is our favorite. We are planning a 3rd backpacking trip to Kalalau with our children next year. They are finally strong enough. We last spent a week there camping on the beach on our honeymoon 2001. A girl naked from the waist up and a baby walked out of the forest with a handful of nuts and asked us why we didn’t join them. We told her we were just married trying to have a child ourselves.
