  1. We leave on 8/12 for Kauai. Half of us are vaccinated, the other half not (underage). I kept in place all of our covid test appts incase they go back to everyone testing regardless of vaccination. And I understand if they do, I guess my question to you, is how likely do you think they would be to reimplement covid testing for all within the next week 1/2? We’ve seen Kauai do some pretty fast rule changing in the past.

    1. Hi Lynde.

Keep an eye on the new cases per day. That might be the most indicative of whether a quick change is likely or not.

      Aloha.

  2. I don’t know if this applies to the rest of the state, but the uptick of cases on Kauai seems to be caused by unvaccinated residents traveling to the mainland and returning with it, rather than tourists. This is an issue you didn’t address. Both Ige and Kawakami in the last week have addressed this, asking unvaccinated individuals not to travel. Maintaining Safe Travels at this point is obviously essential, but residents getting vaccinated would resolve the uptick, as well as making it possible for tourists to visit without endangering residents.

  3. There is a severe shortage of qualified health workers in Hawaii. That may, in fact, be the straw that breaks the camel’s back, rather than it being ICU or ventilator capacity, as was the case last year. There is said to be only enough staff to man two-thirds of the state’s hospital beds, which, if true, would mean we are already nearing capacity.

Hawaii needs to fix it’s dam healthcare environment. We drive too many DRs. away and do not put in place attractive policies that encourage DRs. to come to the State.

  4. Its frustrating that they aren’t going to accept the Novavax vaccine from people in the clinical trail for that vaccine (data so far is great). That puts me in the ‘unvaccinated’ group, when in fact i am vaccinated. Frustrating that they aren’t supporting vaccine trials.

    1. You should have gotten now card from the cdc showing two shots
Are you saying Hawaii doesn’t recognize?
      ..or
If you are sayimg you never got a card recently, ask trial coordinator. Y daughyer got jers last week

    2. I can understand why they’re not since its still technically a trial. However, I do feel your pain and understand. You try to be responsible and do the right thing and you don’t get to benefit for it. It stinks. Something similar happened to me in my line of work.

  5. Greetings from Alabama: Dear Rob & Jeff, I found your story & read it😃 I was born in Philadelphia so I’m a Yankee! My main hobby is travel(especially by ✈). I need to make a tee 👕 that says have suitcase will travel! Take care😍

  6. Dear BOH, Right now I’m @ the frustration level with trying to plan my dream Hawaii vacation, like some many other travelers!😔😲 This whole virus situation is frustrating! I’ve been waiting my whole life to come to your beautiful islands❤✈🌈 Hopefully things will get smoothed out soon:) What is your story? I don’t think I’ve heard it before. Do you live in Hawaii? Take care! ❤ Andrea!

    1. Hi Andrea.

We must certainly do live here. You can check out our about us page for more information.

      Aloha.

  7. Dear Everyone who reads the BOH: if you are an Elvis fan then you need to go to the Neil Blaidsell Center, which was the old Hawaii civic center I think. He did a concert from the building & there is a statue of him there. It is in downtown Honolulu on Ward Ave, I believe. People also leave their leis on him😍 I called one of the local hotels in Waikiki & was talking to a man who works in hotel. I thought that was very sweet of him to tell me this local tip♡! I’m an Elvis fan! So, I thought I would do the same for others by passing along the information. God bless you & stay safe.

    1. We attended that concert (1972 or 73). It was awesome! We’ve seen some great concerts on Maui as well.

      1. Dear Shirley, oh I bet it was awesome to see Elvis in person!! ❤ I wasn’t even thought about then, lol! Ive been to Tupelo where Elvis was born & I sat on his frontporch swing. Seeing his 🏠 was very cool. Then in the same trip I went to Graceland. Did you know that Elvis had a twin? He was still born & his parents already named him Aaron. That is why Elvis had the middle name because of his brother! I’m tired of this pandemic & I wish that covid never existed for health reasons & travels! Stay safe & God bless you…..John 3:16 & Psalms 91:11🍍🥥🌍🌈💺☀️🛩😍🏖💧🌊🐢🐠🌺

      2. Good afternoon Shirley, I will go to Hawaii when it is meant for me to go. I’m trying to be patient, but it sure is frustrating! Take care of yourself & many blessings to you from Alabama😇❤

    1. Dear Judy, Did you know that the Pink Palace of the Pacific was closed to the public after Pearl Harbor happened? It was used for the soliders for rest & heal place. I started my Hawaii research in 2019 & I’ve been learning some new things along the way.
