  1. Aloha!
First of all, thanks for all you guys do! Because of this site I was able to score a crazy deal on my flight from Chicago this summer.
I’m planning on moving to Maui in January and was hoping for Chicago deals. Should I keep waiting or book now ($300-400 one way)?
Dates are flexible between January 6-14.
    Would love your input!
    Mahalo,

    1. Hi Bea.

We saw your note about not being able to comment. Looks like whatever issue there was is squared away.

Our take is to buy now at that price since nothing is indicating Chicago prices will improve soon. Maybe with SW, but maybe not.

      Aloha.

      1. Thank you so much, I was thrilled when I saw that it finally worked! Thanks for getting back to me!

I will go ahead and try to book soon then. Thanks so much for the advice!

  2. Aloha. We plan a Chicago-Kahului (Maui) roundtrip, November 15-26. The lowest fares now are over $900.

I am gambling on the Southwest connection effect. The information that you have kindly provided indicates an October announcement followed by flights beginning shortly thereafter. Presumably, its fares will be considerably lower, and then the other airlines would lower their fares accordingly, hopefully in short order.

If all goes as imagined, we could save a few hundred dollars by waiting. But any glitch could cost us a few hundred dollars. If you can provide any guidance, would you please do so? Mahalo. I understand that any advice would be speculative at this time. Thanks so much for your consideration.

    1. Hi Douglas.

We’re doubtful of any positive impact should Southwest have announced and/or be flying by then. Subsequently yes, but not for Thanksgiving. Looks like it is going be be about $1,000 for any decent flights/duration. If you could come back a couple of days later, you’d save $200 or more.

      Aloha.

      1. Thanks so much for your extremely helpful, straightforward reply. (I just found it last night, hence my late response.) This removes a lot of uncertainty and worry. Now I shall monitor the fares for a few days, hoping for a midweek reduction, and then purchase.

        May you flourish! Aloha.

  3. Hi-
Husband & 2 daughters want to travel to Kona Dec 28/29, 2018 for 2 week vacation. Fares on United or American are $859. Is this a reasonable price or will fares go any lower? Just need some guidance–any help you can give would be appreciated.
    Thank You

    1. Hi Barbara.

You didn’t say from where. The outbound flights will be expensive, but the return should be far less, regardless of the origin.

      Aloha.

  4. Hello, please advise on best time to go to Hawaii from NYC and Savannah for my mom and I, celebrating turning 80 and 60, respectively. Must see Pearl Harbor and volcano. Thinking a bit of land and cruise trip….not sure what to do
Any help you may provide, greatly appreciated.

  5. Family of of 5 looking for deals next Christmas season (2018) to any HI island. for 7-10 day stay. I know it’s a long shot, but any possible deals then from Denver? I heard SW may have non stop by then. Hoping. Thanks so much. Great website!

    1. Hi Pamela.

No that is isn’t going to happen with virtual certainty. High holidays are something you buy close to a year in advance, and deals aren’t a part of that peak season. Everything should be booked that far in advance (accommodations, air, car).

      Aloha.

  6. Hello Jeff, Are there ever any good deals from Norfolk, VA (ORF) to Honolulu in mid-April? Thank you. Carolyn

    1. Hi Carolyn.

$795 on multiple airlines, mostly mid-week in April and May. Not likely that will improve.

      Aloha.

  7. Good Afternoon!

I am so happy that I discovered your website!

While I am anxiously awaiting an announcement from SWA regarding flights from the Mainland to Honolulu, I would like your expert advice.

Do you think that there will be any lucrative deals (on any airline) for the dates of 06/30- 07/06/18 RT to Honolulu?

Departure city would be St. Louis, MO- but we can get to the West coast from there if necessary as typically we take STL>LAX>HNL.

    Any advice would be appreciated!

    Sharon

    1. Hi Sharon.

No you should not expect any deals during that, the most expensive possible week of summer. Best to buy now.

      Aloha.

  8. We are trying to get from Oklahoma City or Dallas to Lihue in June. Oklahoma has been way less than Dallas, holding at $755 round trip. We have been waiting for it to drop some. Any thoughts on cheaper ways to get there? We are in north central Texas. If we could get to California for a lower price , then find a lower price from there to Lihue?

  9. Hi, thanks for all the wonderful information–I love this website.

I was wondering if you ever see any deals on non-stop flights from Chicago? We have kids and figure the less travel time, the better. We are looking at possibly coming out before or after spring break (not during.) Fairly flexible on dates. Thanks for all your help. Have a great day!

    1. Hi Trish.

Chicago has been Hawaii deal challenged to say the least. And non-stops even worse. Low $900’s in April/May is probably the best possibility.

We think there’s a pretty good chance of new flights from Chicago and/or other mid-west cities to Hawaii in the not too distant future.

      Aloha.

    2. Tosh I know you said non stop but check southwest to lax. Then lax to whatever island on Hawaiian air. I live in Texas and that’s what I do cheaper than non stop on United. Good luck

      1. Thanks, Robin. I will check travel times. My daughter’s ears also don’t do well with landings, so the fewerthe better. Thanks again.
