  1. Thank you for the alerts on Alaska quitting the Oakland airport. I was able to change to San Jose. Also thank you for the rental car story. I usually wait until my trip is closer, but after your alert, I decided to book it right away. I am avidly following the vaccination passport with you because we got the J&J vaccine. It will be over 3 months when we go on our trip…. Mahalo

    1. Dear Mary, I’m also waiting for the vaccine passport & I’m a teacher so I’m fully vaccinated. I’m planning my life long dream vacation trip to Oahu next year! I’m getting very excited ♡♡♡ I can’t wait!!:)

  2. So they don’t even know how often people need a vaccine. One official said it might be once a year. So they want us to have to time it so we get it three months before going to Hawaii?

    1. Dear Debra, we will just have to wait until the vaccine passport is out & what it all includes.

  3. Once again, more uncertainties than answers. I still do not understand what “science” the state is following that says the shots are not effective longer than 3 months. In my opinion, requiring people to be tested within 72 hours or risk quarantine after having had the 2 doses of vaccine is discouraging anyone who plans to travel later in the year from getting the shots now…which in essence defeats the goal of getting this virus under control and our lives back to normal. All we are hearing in these posts are what Lt. Green wants and hopes to do, yet when has anything he has proposed regarding the Covid lockdown actually been put in to place? Until he and the Gov. get on the same page and take control over the state (including the individual counties) this whole issue will continue to get nothing but worse.

  4. Vaccination within three months of travel? That is so frustrating for me as I was vaccinated in February and am planning a trip in June.

  5. There is no way I’m showing “my papers“. No vaccine passport for me. This is just one more step to control the population.

    1. Yeah, don’t show your driver’s license at the airport check-in either! I bet you don’t think you should show an ID to vote.

    2. Hi Andy M
You are correct. I think people are reading the wrong books. There is more going on than Covid.
I might suggest “The Gulag Archipelago” by Solzhenitsyn.
Good background read. Will get you closer to the truth.
      Thanks everyone.

  6. So you probably travel within 3 months of your vaccination!? That speaks volumes about a vaccine that only has a 90 day effectiveness and THAT’S what you’re going to use as your key to getting into Hawaii!? Just how damnstupid does the governor and LG think everyone is? Oh wait, they have demonstrated that for over a year already! Funny how at no time did Hawaii ever worry about travelers during flu season which is just as contagious even with a vaccine.

    1. My husband is really set on visiting Kauai this summer. Is 2021 realistic, or would 2021 be better – because of all the covid restrictions & uncertainties?

I’m thankful for your newsletters. Hawaii can’t seem to figure travel. It’s frustrating.

Just trying to convince myself that it’s worth the hassle & expense,

      Thanks!

      1. Hi Kim.

It sure looks like everything is aligning for it to be a great summer for visitors here. That barring anything unforeseen.

        Aloha.

      2. Dear Kim, I’m waiting for the vaccine passport myself! I’m planning my life long dream vacation trip to Oahu next year! I’m getting very excited!!♡♡ Personally I’m waiting for the passport because for my that would be too much stress on my worrying about getting my test result back in time. I will only be able to visit Hawaii for a week. Plus too I’m waiting on my travel partner to save $$.

  7. We are traveling to Honolulu 4/5/21 and then leaving 4/9/21 about noon for Kauai, and will be on Kauai for 7 days. We have been vaccinated (2X Pfiser) and will have met Hawaii Safe Travels testing to get to Honolulu. I have heard some requirements will be changing again April 5 for Kauai as they re-join Safe Travels.
Will we need to have another COVID-19 test after 3 days in Honolulu and within 3 days of traveling inter-island to Kauai? And, if so, will we need the NAAT test or will a rapid test suffice?

    1. Yes, you will need to be tested by one of the trusted partners before coming to Kauai. The Kidney Foundation has a testing site at the Honolulu Airport and in Waikiki. I would strongly suggest that you make an appointment. Results have been coming back within 6 hours but no guarantee.

  8. Hawaii is moving towards creating a third world country, not part of the USA with the regs they are trying to impose. With the hassles why does anyone go now? And going in th e future, for me at least may be put off for a long time. Sad as we used to visit every couple of years.

    1. Please give us ALL a break and never come to Hawaii again! We STOLE this island paradise from the Hawaiians maybe we should give it back

      1. Paul C… And totally destroy the Hawaiian economy which is still at this point in time tourist dependent. A bit short sighted it seems to me.

    2. @Bob B. If our health officials outlines protocols to keep others safe, I am all for it. Hawaii has made the choice to do what it has to keep its people safe – ok by me. Vaccine passport, testing, PIA for sure, but not too hard to do either to enjoy the Islands, IMO.

  9. What’s written here is no different than what was written in the last 2-3 BOH articles on the topic of vaccination. “If Lt Gov Grenn gets his way?” Is this a kids game? Waiting for CDC “guidelines” is waiting for hell to freeze over; CDC is never going to state that there’s 100% certainty a vaccinated person cannot transmit. What IS certainis a vaccinated person is the closest thing to 100% “safe” as anyone can get. I know BOH just wants to keep communication lines open, but we dont want to hear “may do this, may do that.” Just tell us when its finalized and concrete. Thanks!

    1. Hi Tracy.

There were many changes since we last wrote about this. These include progress and issues that have arisen with both the proposed passports and with the paper certificates, the federal government’s role in vaccination travel and how that may work, and the state’s contingency planning with and without passports.

      Aloha.

      1. It still remains Hawaii “may” do this and then they “may” do that. While the verbiage in these posts may be different, the overall message is still the same. Hawaii cannot move forward on something so simple: If you can show you’ve been fully vaccinated, you can bypass the pre-travel testing. Period. Does Hawaii really think there will be folks who try and “forge” the vaccination cards? C’mon now …
