  1. Aloha- I’m trying to find a non-stop early flight from Maui to Hilo on April 9th but the earliest is 9am. Have you seen anything earlier? Seems our only option is 6am and we won’t get there till 8:20. We want to make a lava tour at noon. Thanks!

  2. Hi!
I’m looking to spend the summer with my boyfriend who will be stationed in Hawaii. I can leave any time from May 20-May 31 and I’d like to return anywhere from end of July to early August. I’d prefer to fly out of New York but I can fly out of somewhere else on the east coast if it’ll be cheaper. My father is also in the army reserves so I have a military dependent ID. Any recommendations for the cheapest flight?

    1. Hi Sarah,

There are fares of just about $300 each way on American. Round trip is running about $750. Nonstops are more. Travel as soon as possible in May and return after August 15.

      Aloha.

  3. Looking to take my daughter to Hawaii for a graduation present(not to mention I’ve been wanting to go for 20+ years- win, win!)
Would like to spend 7-10 days and can go anytime between May 29th to July 30th. Coming from ATL but can fly out from west coast instead as there doesn’t ever seem to be many sale fares from the east coast.

Any ideas on where to fly from and when to buy would be much appreciated. Would it be better to purchase everything separately (flight, car, hotel) or go w/a package deal? Not into big cities but since it’s our first time would like to stick to Oahu and/or Maui.

    Thanks so much!

    1. Hi Robyn,

So best would be to leave as soon as possible, since you’re fighting with summer vacation and much higher prices otherwise. You can fly Delta with one stop and a quick connection for $739 (5/31-6/8) an an example.

  4. Aloha — our family of 4 adults already have our timeshare reservations for Aug 5-19 2016 on Oahu and Kauai. We will be leaving from Baltimore (BWI) traveling to Honolulu Aug 5-12, then Kauai Aug 12-19. I’ve been checking airfares and hoping they will go below $1000 for R/T BWI to HNL. Would you advise buying now or waiting?
    Mahalo

    1. Hi Sharon.

$1159-1254 right now for your dates. It could improve with your return being outside of the high season. Your departure however, is not, making it a bit more challenging to predict. Gut call is to wait, knowing that it may or may not improve. That late in the summer there should not be a problem of availability.

      Aloha.

      1. Thank you so much for your quick response. I’ve been checking airfares since Aug 2015 and it is exhausting. I not only have to check R/T airfare for BWI to HNL, but also R/T airfare from HNL to Kauai. Based on your expertise (and gut feeling), how much longer would you wait to book?

        1. Hi Sharon,

You’re most welcome. Honestly there is no way to know if and when it might improve. Guessing May-June if it does happen, and then by how much is also hard to say. Best you can ever hope for from BWI to HNL is about $800, but not for your dates. Check back if you want as we get closer – happy to try to help.

          Aloha.

  5. Hello! Could you please let me know if there are low season dates for flights and hotels in August? Thank you so much in advance! 🙂

  6. Hello Looking to travel to KOA this June 22-29 to celebrate our 10 year wedding anniversary & my wife completing 50 half marathon. We will be traveling from either EWR ( Newark NJ) or PHL (Philadelphia). Can you please tell me when is the best time to get our tickets. Right now it’s ranging from $1034-$1290. Thank you very much.

    1. Hi Sonya,

That’s peak summer travel so it would probably be best to buy ASAP. Prices will not be coming down unfortunately. Newark is a bit cheaper. Have fun!

      Aloha.

  7. We’re taking our high school kids to the Pearl Harbor 75th anniversary mass band celebration in early December. The airfare is $460 (PDX – HNL) through the school sponsored travel agent, but we have a big family and want to wait for a better deal and buy our own tickets. Do you expect any price wars for this route later this year? Thanks for all the great info on this site, it’s our first trip to Hawaii.

    1. Hi Dave,

Portland isn’t getting the best Hawaii deals recently. Based on what we’ve seen so far this winter, it might be best to take the $460 fare. Sorry to not have more promising news.

      Aloha.

  8. When is the best time to purchase flights for Christmas 2016 travel from either Phoenix or San Diego to Big Island or Oahu?

Can you please provide any insight in how to avoid or minimize change fees if we have to change our reservations?

Thank you for your time and information research!

    1. Hi Terri,

That time would be now for booking airfare, car and accommodations. Availability is a big issue at the holidays.

Not sure on how to reduce change fees. That’s part of the airlines’ big money makers. If you are a frequent flier with one of them, at times they waive some fees.

      Aloha.

  9. looking for flights from Seattle to Honolulu.. travel anytime between end of march and end of april… any deals you see coming up? looking for something around the $300 mark(inld tax and other fees)

  10. Ok, when can those of us in Florida expect a travel deal on Hawaii? We can travel almost any time of year, and we’re willing to visit any of the beautiful islands there. Where are the deals for southeastern departures?

  11. Inter island flight cost between Honolulu and Kona Feb (one night) mid February. Round trip.. What is the phone number to make reservations, if I go? Will be in Honolulu for 15 days but have family in Hawaii. Thanks.

  12. We already have a condo booked for 2 weeks on the Big Island from Sept 17th-Oct 1st. We will be leaving from Indianapolis and arriving in Kona. The best flight times are with United but for 2 people round trip is running $2500. Is that a normal average?

  13. Should I buy my tickets from OAK to LIH for May 30-June 6 yet or should I wait a little longer? I’m scared if I wait to long they will skyrocket…

    1. Hi Wendy,

That is one way and is a great price for SFO. Before the additional competition fares were as high as $600+ round trip.

      Aloha.
