It was about a year ago that marked the first time Southwest Hawaii flights were on sale at 50% off. However, a lot has changed both at Southwest and in the Hawaii airfare market since then. So we went looking to see what their 50% offer will do for you now using promo code BDAY and booking by June 13.
50% off late summer and fall 2024 travel on Southwest Hawaii.
Here’s the general idea. We’ll provide the details and prices on Southwest Hawaii routes below. This offer is valid if you can book any Southwest flight by Thursday only.
Southwest says, Up to 50% off promotion code savings valid for one-way or round trip… booked on Southwest.com from June 10-13, 2024, 11:59 p.m. PT. You must fly from August 20-December 17, 2024, for Hawaii travel. Interisland Hawaii travel is excluded.
Travel to Hawaii is blacked out from August 29 to September 3 and November 21 to 25, 2024. In the other direction, travel from Hawaii is blacked out from August 29 to September 3 and November 29 to December 3, 2024. Promotion code savings are applied before government taxes and fees.
How to take advantage of this SW Hawaii offer.
Enter promotion code BDAY in the Promo Code box when booking during the Booking Period. Seats and days are limited. Savings in the base fare is shown as a strike-through of the original fare on eligible flights.

What does the comparison between Southwest Hawaii prices and other airlines reveal?
1. Southwest has greatly reduced and consolidated its Hawaii flights since its aggressive roll-out. As a result, its Hawaii “focus” mainland cities are Las Vegas and San Jose. In Hawaii, its focus islands are primarily Oahu and secondarily Maui. All this can be easily seen in the pricing below, which includes all Southwest Hawaii flights other than interisland. Interisland is not part of this sale.
2. On Hawaii routes where Southwest competes, in most but not all cases, the prices of Southwest’s sale and the other airlines’ best prices are comparable at first glance.
3. Some notable exceptions are Phoenix to Maui, where Southwest will save you $200 round-trip compared with American and include two free checked bags (an additional $85 value).
4. From Los Angeles and San Jose to Honolulu and from San Jose to Maui and Kona, Southwest sale prices are still significantly higher round-trip compared with multiple competitors (before calculating bag fees).
5. When calculating savings, the difference is often in the bag fees. Since frequent fliers and those with branded credit cards on other airlines don’t usually pay bag fees, this is a variable ancillary cost that doesn’t apply to everyone. For those who don’t fly frequently, however, this check-bag savings can be very significant.

Even if it was free, I still wouldn’t fly southwest
Remember last year. Southwest announcing their $89 San Jose and $99 dollar San Francisco flight offers. Those didn’t include the new boarding fee’s of $99 tacked onto them. Lowest here spoken was $105 from San Jose advertised 50% off with what boarding assignment class line. Did they mention ZZZZZZZZ!!!!
