Stay at St. Regis Princeville – Rob a Bank

September 10, 2011 by Rob

st. regis princeville

Where would you hide out on Kauai if you just robbed a bank?

A man this week chose The St. Regis Princeville Resort. Perhaps next time it would be easier to find a Hawaii travel deal to cover the cost.

We know that our first St. Regis in Hawaii is expensive. I checked their website today and rooms run from $400 to $5,000 nightly.

When news broke of the robbery, an unusual event here by the way, we were all taken aback. The suspect did the traditional things you don’t expect to see on Kauai. He entered the bank, passed a note to the teller demanding money and pointed an object at her from under his shirt.

I wondered who would have been that desperate, that lost, to rob the bank, when fairly clear photos had been taken by security cameras and arrest was certainly inevitable.

It turns out it was a visitor from Sacramento who was captured in his luxurious St. Regis hotel room. The money was recovered and he’s now being held at the not so luxurious jail featuring views of the (public) Wailua Golf Course.

Have you stayed at The St. Regis Princeville?

    To Irene W-H:
My husband & I stayed for several weeks in Waikiki last year and
rented several times from Enterprise downtown ( not the airport)
and never encountered any problems whatsoever: we were always
treated politely too. We had the same experience when we rented
again from Enterprise in Hilo on the Big Island. That they’ll pick you
up and drop you back again is a real plus, and our driver was full
of tales and advice, very personable, another plus. I haven’t read
any reviews elsewhere but I think you can relax!

if i robbed a bank i would definitely hole up here. stayed here about a year ago for 3 night extended weekend getaway from maui. sunny everyday. definitely one of the nicest hotels that ive stayed at, right up there with the halekulani and fs hualalai. really liked the room, better than the ritz and fs. (didnt mind not having a lanai as waking up to sweeping views of waterfalls and hanalei bay make up for it!) dining was expensive of course but good and I cant think of a better place in the world to have a drink. service all around was also exceptional. hint hint Big tips = better service!

    Dear Rob,
I have a question, but not related to this article. I hope that’s okay. I was wondering if you know anything about Enterprise rental car at the Honolulu airport. I have prepaid for one week rental through Hotwire because it was a great rate. I have done this before and usually have gotten Hertz or Alamo. This time it is Enterprise. Unfortunately, I had booked before I read a few bad reviews for this company, mainly that they take advantage of people regarding damages and that employees get commission for this practice. This car rental is for my son and new daughter in law (who has never been to Hawaii). They will be going to Oahu for their honeymoon in a few weeks. I just want them to have a positive experience. Thnks so much, Bob. I really love receiving your emails on Hawaii.

When we stayed in Kauai many years ago in our timeshare in Princeville, we went to eat lunch at the resort outdoor by the pool. $70 later and a burger for me and a Cobb salad for the missus, we retreated back to our timeshare…That was the most expensive lunch we have ever had!

I’ve stayed at the St. Regis, Kauai several times. The last being a “staycation” for my August birthday. The coconut wireless went ahead of me and I had a chocolate cake and a wonderful greeting for the hotel in my room, the pool staff brought me more chocolate ice cream goodies at the pool and a handsome butler with a tray of truffles and champagne appeared one evening. When we returned to our room after an amazing dinner we had orchids and flowers strewn over our bed.

The spa, did I mention the spa? My facial with Melissa has me still glowing and my massage with Meagan is something everyone deserves at least once in their lifetime. The waterfall shower and relaxation room with tea and cookies and a wall of flowing water sent me over the top!

If you want to go beyond pampering go to the St. Regis and be nurtured.

We stayed at this magnificence resort for a week in August, however we received marginalized service from the valet on a daily basis. While other guests picking up cars before and after us were offered beach towels and water, we were never offered such amenities during our whole stay. I do know we can ask for it, but why weren’t we offered. The only perceived difference that may set us apart is our skin color.

We have not stayed there, however, we love to go for cocktails on our last night on Kauai. Such magnificent views of Hanalei, and we always meet very nice people.
