Just the beginning. As one alleges infringing on the right to interstate travel, another hopes to reopen vacation rentals.

  1. I appreciate all of the comments and understand why hesitating to move forward with full opening has merit. 12 women went to the bar in Florida this week – all 12 got C0vid. Reopening tooo quickly has consequences.

Out of pure respect, I hope that BOH can consider addressing the very brutal Fee Creep reality of booking accom. in Hawaii with it’s readers at some point. Its a 900 lb elephant in the room no one seems to want to debate. There’s a compelling need to stop with 5 or 6 or 7 fees on top of a condo rental price – many would be travelers feel slighted and have stopped considering any travel to Hawaii as they feel they can no longer afford / are not appreciated. Maholo for your consideration.

  2. The idea that it is “testing” is wrong. About 12,000 people have been hospitalized in florida. Kauai has 9 ICU beds. In Arizona, numbers of hospitalizations have hit a new high. Arizona has 346 people on ventilators. You don’t understand the limitations of Hawaii. The fact that many of the residents are not white also does not bode well, since in the U.S. the proportion of non-whites affected is much higher than whites. The entire state of Hawaii has 340 ICU beds. It is estimated what without the lockdown, Hawaii would have 93,000 cases requiring more than 3000 beds. It’s a long way to the next hospital out of state. You should respect your play land and let its people survive.

  3. We have a large family planning to visit Kauai in January. We booked thinking that would be far enough out to avoid the travel restrictions. We’ve not booked the air yet but am starting to get concerned. Do you think the pre-screening will still be in place in January?
Thanks very much for all of your updates.

  4. It’s a crime returning residents don’t get to waiver the 14 day bologna taxes and fees keep going on as well as payments and utility charges but making it increasingly difficult to see a loved one and then 14 day mandatory isolation is unreal a punishment that doesn’t fit the crime if going off island for medical issues should be sufficient and in some cases live saving but then to return to isolation really? Lift thus hold for returning residents now please

  5. I am ready for Hawaii oahu to be open already i hope that the 14 day quar antine if lifted July 31 and doesn’t get extended into August

  6. With the 14 day quar antine expires July 31
I really hope that Hawaiian airlines flight las to hnl goes September 29
I hope Hawaii opens up in
    August

  7. Aloha – I’m just curious: the paper said SOS Pompeo is coming over to HI for a meeting. Does he have to quar antine for 14 days before that meeting? Mahalo for your patience and grace in handling all the grumbling!

    1. Hi Karen.

Thank you! It seems that he would fall under the category of essential workers, but we can’t say for sure.

      Aloha.

    2. To paraphrase Leona Helmsley, “rules and quar antines are for little people.” People at the top of the food chain do whatever they want.

  8. Will the 14 day quar antine be lifted by July 20th? My wife bought airline tickets against my advice

  9. I’m the Bob L. from Colorado, not California. I saw on Fox News this morning that there has been an uptick in new cases in Hawai’i, and so I checked it out and there were 15 new cases in Hawai’i just yesterday alone, but 11 of those were in one family in Waipahu. The Lt Gov said that the Memorial Day celebrations and the 10,000 who gathered in protests at the state capital a week ago will most likely produce additional infections. Gov Ige may reimpose restrictions until this latest bump in the numbers subsides. He may also extend quar antines beyond 31 July. Still awaiting his reopening plan.
