Virgin America first indicated that they planned flights to Hawaii nearly 8 years ago and we’ve been writing about that eventuality for five years. That didn’t happen at the time largely due to economic conditions. Then in late 2015 they began their first Hawaii routes, from San Francisco to Honolulu and Maui. Now, however, the time is right for further expansion to Southern California. We still anticipate Virgin America adding flights to both Kauai and Kona at some point in the future.

  1. Your website is so helpful! I wish I saw this two weeks ago. We are going to a wedding in HILO (we are flying out of Portland,OR) and we’re trying to get tix early OCT5ish – 10. Prices are $555 RT, is that good or should I wait until late spring to buy? Thanks!

    1. Hi Jenn,

For most fall flights we’d suggest waiting. But Hilo just doesn’t get great deals, and at this point in time, neither does Portland. With it being doubtful of those changing, that’s a reasonable price and might be just as well bought now. Hope that helps.

    1. Hi Paula.

Probably won’t improve. If you can fly mid-week you can save about $200. Otherwise weekends are about $1100.

  2. Thank you! So glad that I signed up for your alerts. Grabbed our seats to HNL for $368RT from LAX. I would have missed this sale if I hadn’t gotten your email.

  3. Hello again! I found a flight from LAS through LAX to KOA for $576 roundtrip, May 18 to June 1. My only concern is the one hour connection in LAX. Is this doable? I hate to jump on the deal only to lose a day of vacation due to a missed connection. Thank you for your advice!

    1. Hi K.

If it is on the same carrier, that shouldn’t be a problem. If not, yes it is too tight.

      1. Yes, same carrier, United. Is $576 a good roundtrip price from LAS to KOA for May 17 to June 1 or should I wait? I noticed that Hawaiian keeps going up. 🙁 Thanks again!

        1. It might improve by up to $70 if you wait. But might not. Not very good prices on that route.

  4. Leaving from Newark Nj or NY airports late September to celebrate our 25th anniversary
Will stop in LA for a night or 2.

    1. Hi Linda,

Are you asking a question about this offer? This deal will not accommodate a stopover.

  5. Really wish these flights started earlier this year….my family (2 adults and kids) are desperately trying to get low fares to Honolulu to celebrate my husbands 40th birthday, he has never been.
