  1. Thanks for the update on the Sonesta/Marriott status. We have time share there and look forward to any information available. We are hopefully going to stay at the timeshare early May. Both of us have had our 2 shots and will travel from a week on Maui, and hope Kauai has accommodations for that by May. Love your site and read it daily.

    1. Hi Jim.

Good question. Suggest checking with Sonesta reservations. Please let us know how it turns out.

      Aloha.

  2. !0 days ago we decided to book accommodations at the Marriot for a 3-day period in mid-May just to cover us in the event a “vaccination passport” does not come into play. We were told that they had no reservations for that time frame due to the change in ownership and the uncertainty as to whether or not the new management was going to participate as a “bubble resort”. We ended up booking 4 nights at the Hanalei Bay Resort instead, BUT, the more we learn about the costs the more we thinking of just going somewhere else. The other issue is that even in the case there is a “vaccination passport”, my eldest son and his wife are in their forties and would be unlikely to be vaccinated by our arrival date, meaning they would spend their first four days in quarantine while we went about our merry way. We have a 14-day stay planned, and being unable to access a beach for almost a 1/3 of the stay is not really optimal.

  3. I’m hearing rumors that Kauai’s mayor is planning to rejoin Hawaii’s Safe Travels program as of mid-April. Businesses have received word of this and the public is to be informed this week. Only time will tell if this is true …. Our family cannot wait for Resort Bubbles will be a thing of the past.

  4. Have there been any updates to the 3 day quarantine? We purchased a week in May unaware of an ownership change and had been advised we would have the 3 day ‘q’. We just received an email saying our reservation is moving to the adjacent Sonesta property.

  5. If they are not a bubble resort you cannot stay there straight away . Your vaccination means nothing . You have to quarantine 10 days or stay in a bubble resort for 3-4 days then retest or stay on another island for 3 days .

    1. I just left Kauai on 2/17/21. I stayed at the MVCI Marriott Kauai Beach Club as I am an owner. I was not part of the bubble group but the majority of the customers were based on the white wrist monitor they had on their wrists. I don’t think you have anything to wirry about. Call them directly. The changes are only on the hotel side and it appears they’re tryto make the transition easy.

  6. Help! We just booked 5 nights in the beach club and paid ahead. We have our flights. We are supposed to be in a 1 bedroom at the Marriott Kauai Beach Club. We are due to arrive on 3/19/21 and leave on 3/26/21. We both have been fully vaccinated with 2 shots of Pfizer each. We plan on getting our COVID 19 test 3 days before we leave so results we be available to show our airlines (American). Any words of advice!

    1. Quit screwing around with Kauai and go to a different island! I know it’s a beautiful place but do what’s best for you! I suggest the big island!

    2. We are staying at the Kauai Beach Club now and it seems in full operation. However, you need to verify the rules to enter Kauai they are vastly different than the other islands. If you come to Kauai directly from the mainland you need to quarantine in one of the resort bubbles for 3 days and then take another COVID-19 test which is available on property. The Marriott Kauai Hotel is definitely one of the resort bubbles, but you should call to verify the timeshare portion is as well.

The only option to avoid quarantine is to go to another island with your COVID-19 results uploaded to travel.Hawaii.gov. There are no movement restrictions , but to get to Kauai you would need another COVID test on the fourth day, have negative results and THEN fly to Kauai on the fourth or later day.

  7. Thanks to all who commented on this. this is most helpful. we hope that all impacted staff are able to stay and work for Sonesta.

Thinking things would be close to “normal” by now, we booked our week for March several months ago. I spoke with an MVC person about our options, in case travel is not possible. I was told that the last day to change our plans, is 60 days prior to check-in, regardless of the reason. The person said that Marriott is not waiving their policy for any reason. So, if we don’t go or can’t go for any reason, we lose our week unless we give 60 days advance notice. Of course, this is not always possible, especially in a pandemic. I was stunned with this inflexible policy. I thought everyone in the travel business was going out of their to accommodate to people, to help get people traveling again.

Anyone experience something similar, or was someone just going rogue on me? Thanks again!

    1. JIM M… All I know is that you won’t “lose” your week. It will go to Interval International. How/When I can’t remember but we’ve got a ton piled up at II.

  8. Just to make it clear (and I don’t usually say anything negative about Marriott Vacation Worldwide (MVCI, MVW or whatever)… The comments I posted were the result of a personal relationship with a senior Marriott Vacation Worldwide VP who I came to know when we were both on the Board for one of the Marriott timeshare resorts. He was kind enough to admit he didn’t know the answers to my questions and passed my questions on to the gentleman who responded and was definitely “in the know” as he oversees all the MVW properties in “the Americas and Hawaii). That is whom I quoted on 01/06/2021. The only communication we’ve from Marriott themselves was the letter we all got from the President of the VOA. That is disappointing that our own Board had to be the one to give us any information and not the corporation.

    1. Good point and thanks for the clarification Barbara M.
Not especially happy with Marriott corporate and their lack of communication, transparency and treatment of timeshare owners who had to cancel their timeshare weeks because of the pandemic and completely lost their week for 2020.
BOH thanks for your concerns about Sonesta communication and their plans.

      1. Hi Lee.

Thanks. We haven’t heard but just wrote again to employees we know there to see what they have been told, if anything.

        Aloha.

  9. I really don’t feel sorry for the timeshare owners or the tourists, like myself, who can’t visit Kauai. We will recover. However, I do feel sorry for the 457 employees who lost their jobs.

    1
    1. The jobs will surely come back when the island fully re-opens in the summer. The Marriott is at a fantastic location, surrounded by restaurants, with a good pool, and a sheltered beach. It’s not like the property is going to suddenly sit disused forever because it was shut down for a year.

Certainly some of the small businesses will not survive (mainly restaurants and the endless numbers of touristy gift shops), but the larger employers are just temporarily shut down. And their employees are getting by okay with federal and state assistance, they are mostly not the ones clamoring for re-opening.

  10. We shall hereby refer to this as the first of many. So sorry to see Hawaii being ruined by their elected, so called leaders.

  11. This should answer many questions that have been asked on this thread. The following was received this morning (01/06/21) from the Senior Vice President – Vacation Ownership (Americas and Hawaii) – Marriott Vacations Worldwide…

“The changes relating to the Kauai Marriott Resort hotel that have received recent media coverage relate to changes to the management and branding of the hotel and do not impact your ability to use your deeded timeshare interest at Marriott’s Kauai Beach Club, which timeshare resort will continue to be managed by Marriott Resorts Hospitality Corporation on behalf of the timeshare association. With respect to your question about “ownership” of the various amenities and other aspects of the hotel, please note that the entire resort (hotel and timeshare) is part of a condominium. Timeshare owners, as well as the hotel owner, have access and use rights to all common areas of the condominium property, as outlined in the condominium’s governing documents. Additionally, the timeshare owners will continue to have access to hotel amenities, such as the swimming pool, whirlpool spas and lobby, pursuant to an agreement already in place between the timeshare association and the hotel owner.”

    1. Thank you BOH and Barbara M. Glad to see communication has finally come out to address the common areas, ownership, etc.!

      1. Hi Lee.

Thanks. We hope it all goes well, although we still have some concerns until we hear more from Sonesta.

        Aloha.

    2. Thank you, Barbara, for the clarity of your response. As a timeshare owner since 1999, I am deeply concerned. It is clear that we owners will have access to the Marriott Hotel’s amenities after Sonesta’s buyout; the concern is for the quality of those amenities.

For instance, since all of the hotel employees have been terminated this week—which is extremely upsetting—what will the future look like? Will Sonesta rehire these long-standing loyal individuals who love the property and take pride in their work and native heritage or will Sonesta hire cheaper labor from the Pacific Rim who may be dispassionate or unskilled, thereby diminishing not only the quality of service but the overall magic that we have come to love and expect for decades.

If Sonesta is going to “refurbish” the hotel property starting in July, if we plan to use our week over Labor Day 2021, will the pool be open, will it be heated, will there be construction noise and pollution, and will the restaurants on the property be open? These are valid concerns for the short-term. Granted, once Sonesta’s overhaul has been completed, hopefully, our property values my increase in the distant future, but I am worried that my much-needed vacation next fall will be in jeopardy. The serene peace of the Pacific is why we return to The Garden Isle.

Finally, I understand that I need to pay my maintenance fees next week, yet after reading some postings that suggest the hotel and timeshare units have been in disarray due to this horrific pandemic, I will write my check, but with grave concern about my needed vacation this fall as well as the future return on my investment.

May 2021 bring us all love and joy!

      Susan M.

      1. SUSAN M…

It is my understanding that the employees received letters of termination for a date in March so there will be employees maintaining the property until then and hopefully during that time they will apply and be re-hired by Sonesta. Also, in a previous letter you should have received from the VOA, it mentions that during the “closed” period Fall 2020, the pool and waterfalls were refurbished (emptied, cleaned, leak(s) repaired, etc) so I doubt that will have to happen again for years! I’m not sure about the comment that Sonesta will be starting renovation in July. And thank you for your thank you!

      2. Aloha Susan M!

I am also very sad to see all of the employees lose thier jobs. They’re wonderful people and part of what makes the Kauai Marriott such a special place.
I stayed in the timeshare side in October for 15 nights to quarantine starting October 9th. My villa was in good condition and the grounds looked good to me. I will stay again in February before I return to the mainland. If anything looks bad I will send a comment. I don’t know anything about the new hotel company but I pray they understand just how precious that property is to the local residents and visitors from all over the World!

  12. We recently received a letter from Marriott confirming that the transition to Sonesta only affects the hotel part of the property and that timeshares are not impacted. Like so many others, we have questions about things on the property that support both (restaurants, gift shops, etc.). This latest news about so many employees being terminated is a huge concern.

We have reservations for our timeshare unit in late March. By then, we were hoping that travel would have picked up, businesses re-opened, but now, I’m not so sure.

    Any suggestions? Thank you!

  13. Kauai bypasses Safe Travels Program by allowing a negative result from ANY Covid-19 test for out-of-state visitors as long as visitors quarantine in an EMQ, aka, a travel bubble, according to official statements as of today 5 January. To be released visitors can ‘elect’ to take an antigen test after “3 days” or continue in quarantine for 10 days. How special is that? No details with regard to administration, responsibility or costs of the second test.

What do Kauai residents think and/or feel about that? Residents traveling from out-of-state can opt to quarantine at residence for 10 days. Seems like a good safety plan as long as you’re not returning from Arizona, California, Tennessee, South Carolina and Kansas (spiker states) right now.

  14. My heart goes out to the Kauai Marriott employees. Many have several generations of families working for Marriott. I hope they are able to find jobs with the other Marriott/Sheraton properties or with Sonesta. The mayor should be advocating for hiring local residents over out of state employees instead of looking at ways to further price gouge (fees, parking fees, resort taxes, COVID costs, etc) visitors to the island.
Thanks again BOH for your reporting!

  15. I remember it well when it was Kauai Surf and I used to swim in the pool which I thought was very nice, the I work there when it was the Westin for maybe a year and thought working at a hotel wasn’t what I wanted to do, I heard the Marriott is very run down and not well maintained like how the Westin used to be.

  16. We stayed at the resort about 20 years ago and it was beautiful. I’m sorry to hear that it’s going away, especially because it’s very convenient to the airport. We also looked at time shares and decided not to buy- sure glad about that!

Thanks BOH for keeping us up to date. Any news about a second test requirement after arrival? Considering postponing again.

  17. PART TWO (limited by 2000 characters, previous post was not the entire message)…

Marriott’s Kauai Beach Club timeshares will continue to be managed by Marriott Vacations Worldwide as a Marriott Vacation Club. This change will not affect your ownership or usage rights for your timeshare weeks. Talks are presently taking place with Sonesta and Marriott Vacation Club to ensure that the services you are accustomed to will continue to carry on into the future.
Lastly, we have recently been informed that after receiving a negative NAAT test 72 hours prior to arriving on Kauai (does not need to be with an approved State of Hawaii Safe Travel Partner) you will be able to enjoy a modified quarantine at the property – use designated facilities such as the pool, sections of the restaurants and a designated fitness area. In addition, Kauai’s Mayor Kawakami, has proposed to Governor Ige that after 72 hours of your stay you can elect to take a rapid antigen test to end your modified quarantine on the Resort. This would allow our owners to fully enjoy their villas and the rest of the island of Kauai in 2021. As information is constantly being updated with current pandemic guidelines, please call our Owner Relations Pre-Arrival Specialists at (808) 632-8035, Monday through Friday, 8:00am-4:00pm, for the latest information prior to planning your vacation stay on Kauai.

This truly has been a trying year but rest assured your Board of Directors, Marriott Vacation Club, the great associates and Management Team at the property have been and will continue to be here for you.

    Take Care and God Bless.

    1. I thank you for this invaluable forum that is insightful and informational during this period of uncertainty.

I am letting my friend use my week at my Marriott Kauai Beach Club Timeshare property late July 2021. Hopefully, the quarantine will be over and things will start to get back to normal, but I am concerned that Sonesta will be tearing down or renovating the main Marriott hotel, which will affect the activities, the pool, the beach activities and other amenities that timeshare owners are allowed to use. Also, it could be noisy. My gut is telling me to find a different property like the Marriott Waiohai timeshare near Poipu for their family—just to be on the safe side. Please share your opinions.

I would hate for them to go to the Kauai Beach Club and find that it is in a state of transition and hotel remodeling. What do you think I should do?

Regarding my maintenance fee that is due soon, do I still need to pay it, especially since the property is in disarray. I read that the pool is not even need heated—not good!!

Thank you for your valued suggestions.

      1. SUE M…
The transition to Sonesta isn’t until end of March 2021 so I doubt anything major will have started by Summer (although we are hearing that renovation is scheduled to start end of 2021). The pool was just “renovated” (leak(s) repaired, etc) and the waterfall(s) “aesthetics” improved while the property was closed this Summer/Fall. As far as beach “activities”, I’m not sure what you mean. But my response would be that those would be governed by whatever Covid protocols allowed for at the time. We’ve been at the property twice a year for 28 years and the only time we felt impacted was when they redid the downstairs area (Kukui’s) and again, I wouldn’t anticipate that Sonesta would be jumping on that during the height of tourist season. Any time there have been room renovations (timeshare) etc, we’ve not experienced any extraordinary noise, etc. We’re arriving July 16 for three weeks and have no concerns whatsoever.

      2. SUE M…
P.S. The pool is heated by overflow heat from the properties heating system. I can’t imagine how that could be “disconnected”. The pool in Summer is like a bathtub just from the sun.

    2. The three day Resort bubble quarantine plan might sound all great, however, unfortunately, the average Hawaii vacation stay is only 7 nights. I can’t think of anyone coming to Kauai for 7 nights who is going to be willing to spend the first 4 of their nights dealing with a 3 night read resort bubble stay and a 4th day for testing.
I am also a short term rental host on the island. I have not had one single booking since the mayor announced his three-day resort bubble plan 10 days ago. I’m also not getting bookings for the summer, because of the confusion and uncertainty his abandonment from the Hawaii saves travels program has created. I am getting bookings for next winter, late 2021. If this mayor is not careful, he will seek Hawaii dried up until December 2021.
It’s his choice. We’ll see what he says tomorrow.

    3. Do you know who owns the Kauai Marriott’s grounds? Is it the Hotel or the Vacation Club owners?
I worry about losing access to the pool and gym. Mahalo!

  18. This is the letter from the President of the KBC Board forwarded by the Resort Manager and received 12/31 2:00MST…

…This project was twofold, first to repair leaks in the pool thereby reducing water usage and second to restore the beautiful aesthetics of the pool and waterfalls. I am happy to report that both goals were accomplished….

We have received questions regarding maintenance fees for 2021. Due to the Resort closure and restrictions in place from the State of Hawaii and County of Kauai as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, we experienced savings in operating costs for 2020. Those savings have allowed us to keep our maintenance fees flat for 2021 by applying a portion of the savings to the 2021 maintenance fee budget. Secondly, the additional savings will be applied to the maintenance fee budget for the much needed public area renovation that is scheduled for the next few years.

I also need to inform you that there will be a management change with the hotel section of the property. Beginning March 2, 2021, Marriott International will no longer be the hotel manager, and Sonesta management company will manage the hotel property as a Royal Sonesta. Marriott’s Kauai Beach Club timeshares will continue to be managed by Marriott Vacations Worldwide as a Marriott Vacation Club.

  19. So disappointing to hear all of this. We stayed there for a night while waiting for our place on the North Shore to become available. It was a great hotel and we liked it so much we drove back down to go to Duke’s to celebrate our anniversary.

  20. We stayed there a few weeks ago and got to the island when safe travels was still allowed. It was well run and we had no complaints. There were very few visitors and we mostly had the pool and beach to ourselves. When the resort bubble program started, management roped off a section of the pool area and marked it as EMQ or enhanced movement quarantine. The front desk told us that only two families were there as bubble people. They told us that the bubble people were allowed to go to Dukes and the Italian restaurant, and could hang out at the pool, but could not go to the beach. The resort supplies the shuttle from the airport and participants have to wear GPS trackers.

I am sure that there are very few guests there now as we saw the numbers dwindle each week. I met a few people who must own multiple timeshare weeks and they said they they were staying for several months. We also heard the the hotel is contractually required to stay open due to some long time timeshare owners owning fixed weeks. They also are the resort that handles airlines crew layovers and have to be open for them.

  21. When the hotel that contained our timeshare in Mexico was sold we were denied usage of much of the resort. An ugly Fence went up dividing the pools and common areas. We were unable to access the restaurants and shops without going off property and reentering the hotel property. Our beautiful resort split in half. We gave it up after one trip.

    1. BRENDA…
MVCI has a major reputation at stake here worldwide so I have to believe they won’t let something like that happen. Naive, maybe, but hopeful!

  22. BOH, I enjoy the news you share and the comments that give tips, share info, and try to be part of the solution. You state that comments are to refrain from rudeness, bullying and personal attacks and will be posted at your discretion. I guess I am tired of hearing that “my governor is better than yours,” “it is personal to me, my momma died and is 100% dead,” or “the problem isn’t us islanders, it is you tourists.” I believe the comments section is very helpful and worthwhile but I can’t wait until the editors get a quicker hook for some of these comments.

    1. Hi Dave.

Thanks for the feedback. We do try our best. Beat of Hawaii has a huge number of comments; more than any other Hawaii website. It is quite a job managing them. You should see the ones that didn’t get published…

      Aloha.

      1. BOH

Understand, totally. You as most people are doing the best you can. This is a community where people are expected to be grownups, and there should be a balance between being too heavy handed and letting it all loose. Giving some leeway in this challenging times to allow people to voice their concerns and frustrations would be an awesome thing you can do. But, for those who cross that gray line way too far, heavy handed is appreciated as none of us really want rudeness in our lives, especially right now when everyone is on edge.

        Keep up the good work.

  23. For Marriott timeshare owners to communicate with other Marriott owners on this subject, they can go to the bbs of tug2.net.

    1. JANICE B…
Thanks for the suggestion but I wouldn’t go there just yet – or maybe even ever! Nothing has been decided regarding ownership. The only thing decided is that the hotel property will transfer ownership. If you read my post(s) yesterday quoting some people (the on-site Owner Relations Manager and the MVCI Senior VP for Global Services) who are actually in the know and involved in the transition, Marriott will continue managing the timeshares. Anything else is just gossip.

      1. TUG is the oldest and most awesome timeshare for owners sight in existence! I am not a member but have read postings there for over two decades. Very kind and know legible bunch of people.

        1. MVCI will screw in maintenance every whatever form of currency from you. What have they offered during the pandemic still what forever escaping fees despite the running cost reduced to a minimum. Marriott International dumped MVCI several years back as they knew they had squeezed all they could now was time to for MVCI to sink. Tell me what happened to promises of more resorts in Europe, more in Asia & the Middle East. All a load of sales talk by a bunch of storytellers!

  24. Like Mike H. said – just stop paying! I love this “you can’t get out of it nonsense”. No one or any vacation business (timeshare company) can make you pay anything! At this time in my life I don’t owe anything to anyone (I realize not everyone is in this position). I still use my timeshares but when I decide to stop – it’s all yours timeshare company and you can put the maintenance fees where the sun don’t shine! I could care less about the collection calls!

      1. Barbara M.- in my situation who cares! If I want something I pay cash for it! I understand this isn’t the answer for everyone but at my age I’m done throwing good money after bad!

          1. Barbara – not sure what your issue is! I was originally responding (agreeing) with Mike H. as no timeshare company can “make” you pay!
As I mentioned twice, I realize my situation may be different than others – you obviously have an issue with my statement (work for a time share company perhaps?) At any rate I’m not going to debate this issue with you anymore in this forum. Hope the holidays treat you well.

          2. MIKE S (aka Mr. Moneybucks)…
Brag about your financial position all you want just don’t expect me to accept your braggadocio without commenting on it! And your obnoxious statement that I work for a timeshare company – there is no logic to that statement, no reason for that statement and why even mention something like that.

          3. @Mike S. I am sure Barbara is a nice person and like many of us are simply on edge because of this dang virus. Maybe just give her some leeway and leave it alone. I am also at a point in my life where I can ‘not pay’, owe no one anything (except for my family and the county), but as long I can and do not feel being screwed, I will do my part to pay my timeshare company as they still are my travel/vacation vehicle and I believe if everyone does what they can to help business land whole on the other side, we all will be better off. Most people and lots of businesses are effected in a bad way by COVID, but it is much easier landing on our feet if everyone chips in, even if a little bit.

          4. I’m not sure why you have such an issue with his statement? I’m no different at 63, my home is paid off, my cars are paid off (I’m not special, I just worked my rear off for the man for 45 years to be where I am) and I too owe no one (except the utility company) anything. There is very little I could ever need that would require me to use credit any longer (I don’t spend all my retirement money every month) so if my score went down it really would mean nothing to me at this point in my life…which is what he’s saying…namely that he can quite easily offer them a finger rather than payment if the situation calls for it…with very little concern they can do anything about it but flap their lips and waste money mailing him a bunch of letters he can use for firestarter’s.

  25. Thank you for sharing this. Karen E commented, “I wish there were a way to connect with other owners, but we are fighting city hall”. Perhaps one could start a Facebook page for Marriot Owners (I’m not sure “time share owner” is the correct term). Might be hard to find and connect with other owners but over time I think it would grow.

I’ve loved going to this property for a number of years, as well as, other Marriott properties. I’m so glad to read in the comments from the Owners Relationship Manager that the Beach Club is not changing owners it’s the Hotel piece of the resort. Sad, but hopefully something can be worked out as opposed to that part closing down.

  26. Thanks. The change-over is not until 3rd week of January 2021. Maintenance is $2200 per week per year. Why pay staff if the hotel/timeshare area is closed? They will be fine. Please keep checking on the homeowners; website: Facebook: Kauai Marriott Beachclub You’ll find it. More accurate information.

  27. Perfect example of why you should never buy any “real estate” if you don’t own the dirt.

If you can’t really afford to own at the beach–just rent.

  28. I think I posted these emails on the wrong thread but apologies if they are a repeat…

From the Marriott Kauai Beach Club Owner Relations Manager…

    Aloha Barbara,
Ownership is changing in March for Marriott International Hotel Portion however there is not discussion of closing. The Kauai Beach Club will not be changing ownership.
I understand they are working on a letter to communicate this to Owners.

From the Senior Vice President – Global Services (MVCI)…

    Hi Barbara, and Happy Holidays,
There have been lots of meetings taking place, and when complete, a communication with details will be sent to Kauai Beach Club Owners regarding any transition plans for the hotel portion of the resort.
Looking forward to great things in 2021. Stay well,

  29. To Karen E.

First of all, there’s no need to call a lawyer. That will just be an expensive nothing.
You can just stop paying. You would lose everything you’ve paid into this thus far, but at least the financial bleeding would stop. You would also face a number of collection calls and letters but those can be ignored. You might face a ding on your credit history and rating but, unless you are planning a big loan in the near future (usually 7 years), that ding should not affect you much.

And again, this cannot be overemphasized, do not go contacting any attorney, law firm, charity, or other company that claims it can “cancel” your timeshare and mortgage.

    1. KAREN E…
Please read the post I just posted with comments from the Marriott Kauai Beach Club Owner Relations Manager and from the Senior Vice President – Global Services (MVCI). That should alleviate some of your concern.

  30. There seems to be much confusion about the Marriott issue on Kauai.

First, this was a default on payment by Marriott Hotels for whatever their management of the Kauai Marriott Resort involved. It has nothing to do with any other Marriott properties except a bunch of Courtyards and/or Residence Inns and the Nashville Marriott. So no other Marriott properties in Hawaii are affected.

Second, the issue at hand is the transfer of ownership of the Kauai Marriott Resort Hotel. If you inquire to Marriott about your timeshare, correct, they will know nothing as Marriott Vacations Worldwide (MVW) is a totally separate company that operates as Marriott Vacation Club International (MVCI).

Third, I love that non-owners are suggesting that the owners file a Class Action Lawsuit. We owners don’t even know yet how this will impact us – if at all. It is the Hotel rooms and the Public Areas that will be affected. Ownerships in the Marriott Kauai Beach Club (aka “the KBC) units are fee simple outright ownerships, not 99 years leases as many Hawaii timeshare ownerships are. MVCI is going to have to deal with the owners but you have to know that, although the outcome might not be exactly to our liking, MVCI’s reputation worldwide is on the line in how they treat us. That may end up being a naive assumption but until we actually hear something, we have nothing but hope to go on. The timeshare units were all redone in 2019/2020 and it is encouraging to hear that Sonesta will be renovating the hotel rooms and all the public spaces/pools which will now be owned by Sonesta. (The Chinese corporation who owned the property during the last renovation took away most if not all of the Hawaiian ambiance in lieu of creating “Zen”!)

  31. Timeshare owners might communicate using tug2.net site (timeshare user group). In the past it has had active forums regarding various resorts and their financial or ownership issues.
Redweek.com is another website where some owners might be found in the forums.

    1. KATHIE L…
The Kauai Beach Club owners will soon be receiving information from Corporate MVCI. If you see my most recent post – the hotel is changing ownership, the timeshare ownership is remaining with Marriott. Nothing is planned to be closed.

  32. That property has had such a rich history. Over the last several years it has gone downhill. IMO, they are just trying to make money off the property and nothing more and it’s hurting everyone. I guess it’s time for the timeshare owners to find a lawyer.
Mahalo Guys always enjoy reading work.

    1. ROY H…
Sorry but I don’t agree with you about the property having gone downhill. When was the last time you visited? Not very much, if anything, has changed since the last major renovation (which we don’t care for but that has nothing to do with “downhill”). As of our last three week visit January 2020, everything was in fine order and the timeshare units had been updated/upgraded yet again. As making money off the property, the whole issue is a default on a loan payment so I’m not sure whose making money?

  33. It is a shame what the Governor has done to the islands. He does not understand business or basic economics and the 1%-2% death rate of COVID is not worth destroying the tourism industry. So glad we are in Texas away from the liberal screwballs

    1. You’re so glad you’re in Red state Texas, where your Covid death rate is out of control and surging, your state participated in unpatriotic voting suppression, and your indicted Attorney General is actively committing sedition, in order to get a pardon. 😂

      1. Unpatriotic voter suppression? Sounds like an unfounded conspiracy theory(Russia collusion anyone)). Actually I’m in Texas right now and the economy is doing pretty darn good. Everybody seems to be using common sense regarding the virus. My home state of California is in lockdown and not doing so good. My rural county has had 30 drug overdose deaths this year. Unfortunately, that doesn’t get any headlines.

        1. Ten million in the County of Los Angeles. What’s the population in your rural county? Rural is the operative word. Can’t compare apples to Brussels sprouts.

      2. Why can’t people do basic math? Divide the # of deaths by the number of Covid cases. There is less than 1% difference in death rate between Hawaii and Texas, and Hawaii and Florida, however, Hawaii will be suffering long term economic consequences because of the lost revenue and the highest unemployment rate in the country per capita. We are in a pandemic and sadly people are going to die. Having lived in Hawaii for over 30 years I know how terribly mismanaged this state is. Seeing all of the businesses that will be closed forever is heartbreaking and the ramifications of our Mayors decision will be a lot more detrimental than the disease itself. Should be really interesting 6 months from now!

    2. Understand your comment. Where I live, we have a Republican Governor and he’s destroyed a lot of businesses. The screwballs are from both parties.

    3. Well, just let me reply to that Mr. Texas. I live in Texas. My mother just died from Covid in November – in Texas. I’m so damn tired of people like you throwing the 1-2 % death rate like it’s nothing. My mother is not 1 or 2 percent dead. She’s 100% dead, and it was probably a morally unconscious person that gave it to her! Texas is doing an awful job with Covid – really awful. And if you’re proud of our results (record setting illnesses and deaths), you have a screw loose. So, why don’t you drop the self righteous tone?

Thanks BOH for allowing me to respond. BTW my family was one of the first settler in Texas – part of “Austin’s old 300”.

      1. Brenda. My sincere condolences – we have lost two immediate family members just in the past 12 months, though no to COVID. I have a friend and his wife who are still sick with COVID, and it has been almost two months, he is finally (Christmas Day) feeling some positive signs. He is certain he caught it at work where he usually works alone, but it is when his yahoo coworkers come into the office, they rarely mask up and maintain safe distance.

Sometimes, I think we as as a nation would be better off just having the govt implement a heavy hand to ensure everyone follows safety protocol as we are at war against this nasty, deadly disease and some people just need the parent-in-the-room to ensure rules are followed, for everyone’s sake. But, our officials are generally spineless, selfish, ignorant,l ow-IQ people who have another agendas that do not serve the public well. That is why we are where we are. Full lockdown where everyone follows protocols would effecitvely wipe out COVID in about one month – like where is the virus going if there is not transmission to another poor host??? A very simple solution, that we as a people did not take, so we in some ways deserve where we are today. This absolutely angries me – and everytime I see a Covidiot acting reckless, I just shake my head and wish him the worse. This is God’s will, it must be to make us pause, the people of this great nation, to see we are actually very weak, a people who has gotten complacent and stupid, a people who has lost compassion and courtesy for others. Maybe before we prosper, we must feel that pain.

        1. Exactly. Mandatory masks with substantial fines for not following the rules and a total lockdown…no one in or out. It will be temporarily painful but we’ll get through it.

  34. Sounds like the owners should get together and file a class action lawsuit against the parent company; otherwise, just accept the fact that corporations are going to get away with screwing people, again and again and again.
