  1. Hello there! I am planning to go to hawaii for my honeymoon next year 3015 in the beginning of November from friday to monday from phoenix, Az, to honolulu, first time i would go there so im not sure what part to explore or would be cheapest! how much would it cost? And is it a good month to go?

    1. Hi Joetta,

We do not help with travel planning. Early November is usually best pricing. It is hard to know what it will cost, but if you plan on $500 you’re probably in the right zone.

      Aloha.

  2. Hi, super useful site! I’m planning a trip from the SF Bay area to Honolulu in mid-October. Prices on Alaskan are $418 right now. Should I book now or wait a bit longer?

    Thanks!

    1. Hi HL.

You really can’t expect much better and given that a bird in hand is worth two in the bush, suggest buying at that price.

      Aloha.

  3. I do not have to fly the exact month of May. With your experience what month is the most economical to fly?

    1. Hi Liz,

Historical information is of little or no value in the current situation. But having said that May is probably about as cheap as it will get. Fall is the other “best” time.

      Aloha.

  4. Our 25th anniversary is in may and are flexible with dates so we can take advantage of the most affordable way to fly out of New Jersey (Newark airport) to Hawaii. What month and airline do you suggest?

    1. Hi Liz,

May is a very good time in terms of value. Suggest checking Hawaiian (albeit from JFK) as well as the legacy carriers, American, Delta and United.

      Congratulations.

  5. Hello We want to travel for Sydney Australia the first week of Sept for 10 nights. And were holding off buy our flights in hopes cost will come down. Do you think we should hold off or buy? Someone told me if fare do come down after you purchase the Hawaiian Air will refund the difference is this true.

    Thanks for your help
    Michael

    1. Hi Michael,

Yes, fares are grim for that route/dates. There is a round trip fare of $861 on Fiji Airways (book through online travel agency), but that requires you stop en route. Not sure if fares will come down or not but it isn’t entirely likely other than perhaps a few days beforehand.

Let us know how it goes.

      Aloha.

  6. My husband and I would like to celebrate our 35th anniversary in Hawaii in 2015. Our grown married children are considering joining us. This would be a total of 6 adults going. We were thinking about a condo for all of us. We are open to the month with the best deal and least crowds in 2015. (Anniversary month is July.). All tips appreciated!

    1. Hi Paula,

Well July is probably the worst time to come, other than at Christmas in terms of crowding and value. We’d suggest you come in either May or from mid-August through early November.

There are not many deals from Dallas or Houston, but fares and condo prices will still be less for those months.

      Congratulations and Aloha.

  7. Great Site and very helpful, especially for 1st time visitors like us!

We’re planning to go Chicago > Honolulu and then Maui > Chicago October 24 – November 1 (dates aren’t flexible). US Airways is $825 round trip. Would you recommend locking this in now. I saw there was a fare sale last year from Chicago with US Airways to Hawaii. Thanks!!

    1. Hi Phil,

      Mahalo for comment.

Certainly that is low season which brings the possibility of fare sales. Given that Chicago has fewer Hawaii sales than many cities and the tight reign which the airlines have on availability/pricing, I would not count on that. Therefore, might be a fare price for this year.

      Aloha.

  8. We are hoping to go back to Maui the first week of March, 2015. When do you think is the best time to start looking for flights out of Phoenix? Thanks for your help and this wonderful site! I’ve learned so much.

    Thank you,
    Angie

    1. Mahalo Angie,

March is shoulder season – although next season it looks like Spring Break will be most of March which could put potential deals off. Of course that’s hard to predict. Having said all that, winter airfare promotions, if any, could appear perhaps as early as this fall. Stay tuned.

      Aloha.

  9. I was looking at traveling on 12/20 and returning around 12/27. Are the flights returning to a higher rate by that travel time? Right now I’m not finding anything cheaper than $1300 from DFW.

    1. Hi Jason,

Sorry for delay; just back from Europe.

The prices are indeed holiday high as you are traveling on the weekend before Christmas.

      Aloha.
