  1. Hello. I did some research and we probably want to go waikiki or maui. When is best time to go for cheap but good time? For my family? We can only stay 5 days unfortunately…

    1. Hi Christine.

Good work. Mid-fall would most likely yield the lowest airfares. October through mid-November. Keep an eye out and we’ll be posting them as they are released.

      Aloha

  2. Hi, I’m planning to fly to Maui from NY, 9/6-9/11 for a wedding. When I looked back in Oct, it was $846 via Hawaiin Airlines, 1 stop. It gradually went up but didn’t expect it to go over $1k, given it is still more than 3 months away. It is $1111 today. Is it possible the price will drop? If so, when should I purchase?

    1. Hi Joann,

No sure answers of course on upcoming fare sales. September is always soft for the airlines. Always. So that would indicate future price reductions. On the other hand you can fly for $861 on Hawaiian if you depart on the 4th.

      Aloha

    2. Unfortunately I have to fly those dates. It has now gone up to $1175, a week later. Should I just buy today?

      1. Hi Joann,

Hawaiian is 766 round trip to Honolulu on your dates (with one stop in LA using Virgin America), so if you want to do a separate ticket to OGG, that would save you some money. Otherwise you can wait and see as it is doubtful price can rise much with little to no demand. Or bite the bullet and don’t look back.

        Aloha.

    3. Hi, thank you so much for your responses. I think I may hold out til May. The flight I’m looking at is a 777 plane and friend tells me there is still 1/3 to 1/2 of the seats left. Do you know where I can find the trend in past years to see how Maui has been priced?

  3. Hello. I want to book my parents their first Hawaii trip. Which island do you think is best for them? They are in their 50’s and enjoy outdoor and show events. Also I read your comment that august 18-November. We are open by dates and also about a 5 days to travel. My brother will go along with them. Who is 19yrs old. I want to make this best so please help. Thank you so much.

    1. Hi Christine,

I’d suggest you and your parents do some research before deciding on which island to visit. Each of the islands has much to offer. There are good guidebooks written on Hawaii whose focus is to help with just this kind of question. You can research online as well. Also, you might want to consider slightly more than 5 days as it is a long way to travel for a short stay.

Let us know if after that you have any further questions.

      Aloha.

  4. We’re looking at tickets for a wedding on Jan 1, 2015 to Maui (OGG) from DFW. Prices right now are about 1200 a piece. Do you suggest waiting to buy for lower prices? If so, when and what resources should I monitor and look for these tickets? Our dates are somewhat flexible as long as were there for the wedding. Currently planning on staying for 5 nights.

    1. Hi Lyn,

Your date will be expensive. Perhaps flying on the 30th or 31st would be best. There are fares in the mid $900’s right now using a combination of American and Alaska. Online travel agency would work best in order check combining carriers.

      Aloha.

  5. Hi, I have been waiting to buy my tickets from Sacramento to Honolulu because you mentioned that prices should come down. We are traveling at the end of May. the prices have continued to go up. Any ideas as to whether there will be a shift or I should just purchase. They are around $600 for a non stop flight via hawaiian air. High $500 through LAX

    1. Hi Rhonda,

Still should have better pricing for end of May. Not guaranteed. If waiting is more painful than the additional cost, suggest buying now. The airlines are in control of the situation which is frustrating to say the least.

      Aloha.

  6. We used to fly Southwest from BWI airport toPhoenix then Hawaiian Airlines from Phoenix to Maui will that ever happen again?

  7. Hi,

We have reservations in Maui for April 25 – May 2, 2014 and we’re flying out of LAX. I only booked the timeshare a week ago and can’t find anything round trip non-stop from LAX to OGG for less than $750 each. Any chance of the fares dropping in the next few weeks or should I just bite the bullet and pay $1500 for both tickets? I’d hate to wait too long and pay even more, but this is already $200/ticket higher than we paid last year.

    Thanks so much!
    Bonnie

    1. Hi Bonnie,

There is a chance it will drop – actually a fairly good chance. But if you wait you also have to be prepared in case it does not. It wouldn’t appear that prices can rise much however.

      Aloha.

  8. hi! i have a wedding coming up in Oahu, August 8th. When would be the best time to purchase tickets for our guests who are coming from SFO/OAK? Would it be best to wait till July? Thanks!

    1. Hi Cris,

August 8 is still in high season and fares don’t start to come down for another week. That could change, but it may not. If they need to come, you might just need to pay more. There isn’t that much upside potential to fare pricing, so you can also just try waiting. Hard call.

      Aloha.

  9. hello,
I’m planning on taking my girlfriend (who I didn’t see for a year) for a week to Honolulu, sometime late August. I checked Expedia vacation packages, and it’s around $3,000 – $3,500. Do you think I may get a better deal if I wait couple more months?

    1. Hi Blake,

Not sure where you’re coming from, but late August has lower prices (and more deals should be coming). Suggest waiting another 1-2 months to see what materializes.

      Aloha.
