  1. Keep in mind everyone, the lowest vax rates are among minorities/native populations. The vacuous Biden admin tries to push a “rural” America issue w/this-false. The vaccine passports are discriminating against black, brown and other minorities.

  2. Aloha BOH Bros, Have you ever been to Pearl Harbor? If so, please tell me about your experience. Malaho!! 🏝🌈

  3. Dear Judy, Did you know that the Pink Palace of the Pacific was closed to the public after Pearl Harbor happened? It was used for the soliders for rest & heal place. I started my Hawaii research in 2019 & I’ve been learning some new things along the way.

  4. Paul C let’s all party like it’s Martha Vineyard at Obama’s mega mansion!!! Maskless and not all partners vaccinated!!😜👍🏻But you have no idea if WE are vaccinated, eh?

  5. I have been following Beat of Hawaii for a year or two. It has been such a helpful source for travelers and all things Hawaiian. Now it has changed to arguments about vaccinations and covid. I really appreciate all the good advice, not this petty back and forth between people who seem to have nothing better to say.

    1. I’m with Beth C. I can’t wait until this just about Hawaii.
So many “experts”. I think I’ll just use my brain.

    2. Dear Beth, I agree with you! We definitely need less arguments & more blogging just about Hawaii🐠🌺🍍🌈

James – you made a false statement that the governor ordered parents to send kids to school unmasked. He did not do this. Parents could put their kids in hazmat suits if they like. If you believe forcing your own children to wear masks is a good thing to do, then you can force your own children to do so. If you can’t live with sending your masked kids to a school where some other kids are not masked, then don’t send them there. You can home school them with everyone wearing masks.

“No what Desantis has done is prioritize business over health. Over the safety of our children and teachers. He said as much. No he didnt say you cant wear a mask to school but what possible reason could he have to ignore safety? He thought Covid was dying off and things were getting back to normal. Now florida and texas are where 90% of the infections are coming from.

  7. Well I’m happy to say I’m vaccinated and negative covid and I’m headed back to Hawaii in October. I’ll test numerous times prior to any needed negative once I actually fly. I will not complain because in the end after all it’s Hawaii

  8. I do not understand why Hawaii would allow anyone coming into their state without a vaccination AND a valid COVID test. It appears that the honor system of quarantine instead of a required test isn’t working. Isn’t it time to do away with quarantine as an option? There is obviously no ability to monitor people in quarantine. I am vaccinated but fully intend on taking a PCR test prior to travel.

    1. Pam, do you live in the US? If so, does your state “allow” other US residents to travel to your state without a vaccination AND a valid COVID test? Just wondering.

My wife and I are at LAX waiting for flight back to Wyoming after visiting family for a few days. California graciously allowed us to travel here without any proof of being vaccinated or obtaining a negative (I assume that’s that you meant) COVID test prior to arrival. And California is about as proggie as it gets for states. Hawaii requires at least one of the two and actually enforces quarantine of perfectly healthy people who do not comply. Does your state do this? Again, just wondering.

What happens if a resident of your state travels someplace then returns home without being vaccinated or tested? Does your state refuse to let them enter? Did they build a wall or something to keep unclean residents from returning to their homes? What makes you think Hawaii should treat its residents that way?

      1. Have you also listened to the utter disregard for their populations’ safety? In the case of FL, that Gov. is about to send unmasked and not qualified for vaccine yet children back to a Delta variant soup that’s is FL. Before you criticize HI and it’s policies to protect its citizens, perhaps you should look towards your own state policies.

        1. children are literally at zero risk for covid. not a single child in US has died of covid without serious preexisting conditions like leukemia and seious autoimmune diseases

if you insist they need to be muzzled for covid, there is no limiting principle. statistically the flu is more deadly to them so they should be masked in perpetuity

          this is science, not opinion

          1. Apparently your opinion is not what the scientists prove:

July 28 numbers of Sars-CV-19 deaths among the 0-18 population:

406 children have died. Boy, lots of pre-existing conditions I guess!

          2. hmmm.. Dr. Osterman.. the epidemiologist who Biden picked to head up his Covid response.. Disagrees. Regular, non-N95 masks, or a pair of women’s underwear shaped like a mask, offer marginal protection at best.

But keep thinking 406 kids died because they didn’t have a mask on… thought 18 months… Yes and overwhelmingly those pre existing conditions are very often Leukemia, heart and or lung conditions

          3. Jamie & Sean, you’re arguing with someone who thinks that the 406 kids, who died, out of 73+ million in the US (less than .000000561643%), don’t have preexisting conditions; yet, several million do. Apparently saying it’s “not what the scientists prove” without backing it up with actual scientific data is enough to justify kids wearing masks permanently, at least until they can force people like you to get vaccinated.🤦‍♂️

See where I am going here? Many people want to force you to take a vaccine, that hasn’t followed the legal process created by our Government; a vaccine that hasn’t established any long term affects (including potential death, which has happened to a small % of the population thus far); a vaccine that has been given blanket immunity from lawsuits to it’s manufacturers, not to mention, it likely has a similar (probably greater) chance to kill people, than compared to the above percentage, whether it be in the short or long term.

They are so concerned about kids passing the virus on (which in fact would allow us to eventually gain herd immunity), but have no problem illegally sentencing a % of the population to death (a forced token sacrifice), believing it’s a better way.🙄 Their ignorance is real, and the utter lack of understanding at the scope and magnitude of what governments have done and continue to do, under the guise of “protecting its citizens”, just shows how much ignorance there really is out there.

These are very short sighted, easy to manipulate, people. They don’t grasp that there’s no legal precedence to force this vaccines use in the US. It’s why the MSM keeps spamming it, talking about “force”, trying to convince people it’s a good idea, while the govt. floods this country with illegal immigrants (some carriers) not doing anything about it, and allowing the push of this warped ideology.

I have no problem with people making their own choice. My issue is the ideology that forcing people to is even a option at all. 😲

          4. You realize, Sean, that you are arguing with someone who only listens to sources of information that fit what he already thinks he knows. It’s called confirmation bias. It doesn’t matter what scientific evidence you throw out at him, he will find some “alternative facts” somewhere on social media, Qaanon, etc. to counter it. If he has trouble with that, he simply throws the messenger under the bus with comments like “you’re sheep”, etc.

He’s ignoring the fact that masks aren’t there to protect the kids wearing them. They are there to keep a kid who’s infected from infecting others who will then take it home to their family. In other words, they are used to slow/stop the spread of the virus.

Last, but not least, he’s also ignoring the fact that we are in the middle of a huge Delta-driven surge and that we have a large part of the population that’s unvaccinated. So, the only way to stop the spread among that population is to go back to masks, social distancing, and potentially lockdowns. If you look at the places where the surge is the highest, they are all in places where more people have his attitude than in places where people are more caring about others, and use their masks, get vaccinated, etc.

          5. Children are making up a growing share of new COVID-19 cases in the U.S., accounting for nearly 21% last week.

About 88,500 new pediatric COVID-19 cases were reported between April 8-15, according to the latest weekly report from the AAP and Children’s Hospital Association. Since the start of the pandemic, more than 3.63 million children have tested positive, making up about 13.6% of all cases.

At least 297 children have died of COVID-19, about 0.06% of all deaths. About 0.01% of children diagnosed with COVID-19 have died. At least 14,849 children have been hospitalized, about 2% of all hospitalizations. Roughly 0.8% of children with COVID-19 have been hospitalized.

          6. this is full of misinformation

            1. who cares if children get it, its less dangerous than flu to them. The “cases” fear porn is just silly

            2. of the 335 children who died WITH covid, not a single one was a healthy individual who died OF covid. they all had extreme comorbidities like leukemia and severe autoimmune disorders. Thats zero. not one, not two, but ZERO dead children due to covid out of 3.63 million diagnosed cases (and probably 10 million more than never got diagnosed

          7. Aloha Paul. There was no “reply” tag available to Jamie L post, so I hope that you can once again respond to his fallacious reasoning. When responding by saying “who cares if children get it”, he went on to claim that children case numbers were somehow “cases porn”, whatever that means. Where reasoning left his head…if kids bring the virus home to their adult parents, isn’t that a cause for concern?

Also, without any facts to back up his next claim, that of the 335 child deaths, ALL were as a result of underlying conditions or that they died with Covid. The actual death number is 406, but it is astounding how politically putrid have some people sunk, disregarding facts, substance and empathy.

          1. I’ll assume that your post was not irony nor tongue-in-cheek. If it was laugh at these stats:

Cases – 15,818 daily average; 144% increase in past 14 day period
Hospitalized – 9,717 daily average; 130% increase in past 14 days
Deaths – 58 daily average; 72% increase in past 14 days

            Total deaths – 39,079

And now, he’s ordering parents to send their kids unmasked into the viral soup he created.

Yep. Makes perfect sense. No emergency. No mandates. No right for businesses to decide how to run their business.

Maybe you were joking, but those numbers and his “leadership” is no joke.

          2. The Florida governor did NOT order parents to bring their kids to school unmasked.

What he “ordered” is that the parent’s have a choice as to whether or not to mask their kids. I get that you prefer that the state of Florida make this decision and not the children’s parents. But not everyone agrees with you.

          4. Evidence is mounting that this concern will not be eradicated. Sooner or later, a friendly face will bring it home. China is very goid at controlling the population, perhaps you’d feel more comfortable there

          5. Aloha Paul. There was no “reply” tag available to Jamie L post, so I hope that you can once again respond to his fallacious reasoning. When responding by saying “who cares if children get it”, he went on to claim that children case numbers were somehow “cases porn”, whatever that means. Unsure why but it would not allow me to reply directly to this. Aloha James B
He has some way of blocking replies now and then. I agree with you.

          6. “And now, he’s ordering parents to send their kids unmasked into the viral soup he created.”

probably best to understand the situation before spouting lies

none of that sentence is true. there is an executive order that permits parents the freedom to choose if their kids are masked or not.

          7. So Dave. Let’s just suppose that some parents who are e exposed to the virus and refuse to mask or mask their kids then send their kids to your kid’s school. Does freedom of choice make a diff if your kids bring the virus back home and to other families?

          8. Ok Jojo,
Lets go with your logic. Lets say that Biden today writes an executive order that states no longer have the right to have a say over their own health concerns. You and your ilk would be screaming tyrrany, dictatorship on and on and on but if Desantis does it (who wants to run for president) thats totally ok right? Come on. This is big state nanny government dictating to businesses, schools you name it that you cannot mandate safety requirements in the localities. So no he is not preserving the right to choose he is being an idiotic dictator.

          9. Paul, or is it James? The arguments you present are based on supposition. With something around 15% of the world vaccinated at this time, your ideal of everyone receiving vaccine seems unlikely.
Lucky for us your authority is limited to harmless rhetoric.

    2. good for you, Pam. i also test before and after travel , more people need to be responsible instead of pretending their vaccines make them immune from infection and spread

      1. Thank you Jamie L. I agree with you. I’ve had 2 international trips this month. I am vaccinated & have been tested 5 times this month. I also wear a mask. It takes nothing to care about others.

      1. What law exactly gives a governor the right to dictate NO mandates? I will wait because you wont find it. What if Biden today did an executive order mandating or taking away states rights to dictate this one way or another? You would be screaming dictator.

        1. What law gives a governor any right to dictate mandates? What is the difference between dictating a positive mandate (“you must do this!”) or dictating a negative mandate (“you cannot do his!”)? I will wait since you are waiting to learn this yourself.

“What if Biden today did an executive order mandating or taking away states rights to dictate this one way or another?” Biden would be exceeding his constitutional authority, IMO. Not that he would care. See, e.g., ignoring SCOTUS ruling on ordering no foreclosures indefinitely.

          1. Since you asked, you might be interested in the details of the following U.S. laws. A number of state laws give Governors the same authority.

            National Emergencies Act (NEA)
Pandemic and All Hazards Preparedness Act (PAHPA)
Public Health Service Act Section 319
            Social Security Act Section 1135
Homeland Security Policy Directives (HSPDs) and Presidential Policy Directives (PPDs)

Additionally, specific to the issue of Immunization, there are numerous social, travel, school and other protective immunization requirements in every state.

            hope this helps.

          2. Its not tyranny that was what Trump was doing. So please stop with this. The ruling on the evictions (not sure where you got forclosures) was not about these specifics it was a completely different case.

  9. I read Beat daily and I can’t help but note that lower income people and minorities are the highest groups of unvaccinated in the entire country. Tourists have, for the vast majority of us, gotten our shots. Truly use “real science” when shutting down a petri dish of a country. Instead, focus on vax incentives. Weight is also a huge risk factor, so implement an aggressive healthy food campaign!

    1. Yikes Vicki P. Don’t know which news outlets you listen and watch, but the Kaiser Family Foundation has been tracking vaccination demo for months now. From KFF:

“The unvaccinated group are younger, more likely to identify as Republicans or be Republican-leaning, and more likely to have lower levels of education and lower incomes than the vaccinated population.”

That same analysis goes on to show in a bar chart that whites (56%)far outpace minority populations.

I could, and sometimes do, spend all day correcting the uninformed and outright delusional on BOH, not saying that you are delusional, but simply listening to sketchy channels.

      1. James your comment is unbelievable you must be kidding

Republican people are less educated is repulsive and your Comment should be removed from this informative
        site.

        1. If you want to take issue with what I wrote, then take issue with a non-profit medical Foundation. KFF is non-partisan and regularly measures health risks, outcomes and other relevant health data. Note that I, nor KFF didn’t say Republicans are necessarily uneducated. You can have two independent variables without causality, and both can be true. 47% of Republicans or Republican-leaning are unvaccinated. 97% of Democrats or Democrat leaning are vaccinated.

You can certainly be uncomfortable with the truth, but please don’t conflate my post with the facts outlined in the KFF numbers.

        2. If you choose to disagree with my post, then you are disagreeing with a non-profit, non-partisan health organization that regularly tracks health data. Neither I nor KFF said that Republican=less educated. These two independent variables can be measured without expressing causality.

Facts are difficult things to absorb sometimes, but KFF doesn’t deal in speculation.

      2. you are comparing the gross numbers. there are only 14% african americans in the US. by race, they are the leading % of unvaccinated, despite not being in the top gross numbers due to the total gross number of citizens being smaller

        hope that helps

        1. What would help is your listening, reading, or watching organizations with no political directive. KFF is a non-partisan organization which regularly tracks health data.

With the amount of screed regularly regurgitated by the anti-vax dirty dozen, combined with the historic racism within the medical establishment, if I were black, I might be as scared as you are inaccurate.

    2. Vicki you have proof of this exactly how? Please point me in the direction of the poor are the ones not vaccinated. Also entitled much? WOW
