Regarding the Hilton rates you mention, it is true that, for better or worse, they were introduced to compete with the giant omnline agencies. However direct with the hotel is not the only place they camn be purchased.
My travel agency can not only book Hilton so called “member rates” but also similar rates from all of the major chains. In fact, in Hawaii sometimes my rates are better. By doing so you can take advantage of our Hawaii experience as well.
In fact any local agency should be able to quote these rates.

My mom and I are traveling there in Sept. to celebrate her “70th” birthday. It was on her bucket list and I’ve always wanted to go as well. We’re cruising from Honolulu but staying on the island a few days before and after.

Sounds great! We will be on the NCL cruise again this September. They have just been in dry dock and it has had a major refurbishment. Suggest you pick up (online, library, or in print) Oahu Revealed guidebook. Just that book – no other.
