  1. I have been traveling to Hawaii for the last 15 years, every time we go, we say the politicians are destroying this beautiful state. Roads are horrible, traffic is terrible, a lot of businesses and restaurants are closing. With this new requirement, who would want to visit? They need to change it, if you have proof that you had a vaccine, already had Covid or have a negative test, should be sufficient. However, looking at the stats on vaccines, it doesn’t look like they have much protection longer then 6 months. Natural immunity needs to be tracked to see how long it lasts, maybe we can then rely on science. Since Hawaii is an island, and have limited medical facilities, maybe medical staff should be treating people, at the time of positive results instead of waiting for the emergency patient!!

    1. If conditions are so terrible why do you keep going? Not be be unkind, but If you are so concerned, why not get a grass roots movement going to elect politicians you feel might be able to make changes for the better? And …….why keep going on vacation to places with the issues you mention? If Hawaiian tourists feel upset their ideal vacation spot is now less than ideal – consider how the residents feel, or better yet read what is happening to Venice.

  2. Thanks BOH, I read your info often to keep up with all the Hawaii news. I’m sad that Covid has been spreading again there. I still want to come, but will have to wait on news.
    Thanks

  3. Aloha BOH Bro’s

    “I got the wrong vaccine”

Just a day after my 2 week anniversary of getting my second covid jab I’m home sick with a cold. I should have gotten a rhinovirus vaccination. 🤦

    3
    1. Home with a cold sure beats an ICU….currently every ICU patient in Hawaii is unvaccinated….hope you feel better soon, lucky you were vaccinated!

      1
      1. Because the ICU is a 100% guarantee for every Covid patient there ever was… I missed that data in the presentation

    2. Hope it is just the cold…however, these days don’t jump to early conclusions and go out and perhaps spread covid around. The Delta variant does start with more cold like symptoms.

  4. Some regulation that finally favors the vaxxed as opposed to the unvaxxed on Oahu. It’s a start. It’s not enough, but it should help. Tourists, this means you are also subject to the requirements.

Beginning Sept. 13 through at least November 13, people on Oahu will need to show proof of vaccination or a negative COVID-19 test within the past 48 hours to enter restaurants, bars, indoor gym facilities, entertainment and recreational settings. This includes workers as well. The sale of alcohol will also cease at 10 p.m. as another mitigation effort.

The Safe Access O‘ahu program does not include grocery stores or farmers markets, but does include establishments such as museums and movie theaters. All affected businesses will have to have signs posted to the public.

Customers can present a physical copy of their vaccination card or a photo of it on their phone. Those who are not vaccinated can present a negative COVID-19 test approved or given emergency use authorization by the federal Food and Drug Administration.

There are exemptions for those under 12 and those who will be in certain businesses under 15 minutes, say to pickup a takeout order.

    1. Good Day Dee.

Thank you for sharing this information.

Undoubtedly, some will view these measures as coercive, not preventative and it will harden their stance regarding accepting the vaccine. Meaningful vaccination levels thus become more difficult to achieve.

Perhaps most surprising is Hawaii’s willingness to establish a de facto caste system among its residents.

Ironically, it may well be that the tourist operators, restaurant entrepreneurs, and general public sector business owners the state seeks to protect will be the ones to bear the burden.

      11
    2. Hogwash! even the “vaccinated” can carry and transmit the virus to other vaccinated and unvaccinated individuals…stay home

      1. and or mask up with an appropriate mask!

My Kid Physician at a University is just starting her next work rotation, this one is all COVID Teams.
Majority of patients are young 20-50 years old unvaccinated and/or refused to mask up.

  5. What would a shut down mean for visitors? Our family is flying in on the Saturday before labor day.

    1
  6. I see the LT Governor is back to playing politics again. Wasnt he originally the one against shut downs?
Blame the locals all you like but visitors are also bring covid to Hawaii. You cannot tell me with the massive influx of tourists that some of the covid is not making it back to the islands. I assume that locals have to test to get home as well BOH?

    5
    1. Hi Paul.

Yes, the same rules apply to everyone. It is just that visitors aren’t apt to choose unsupervised quarantine as an option whereas locals might.

      Aloha.

      7
    2. Actually that are supposed to follow the rules, but they don’t have to provide any test results to get on a plane. Therefore they can choose not to test, and are then forced to do quarantine, when they get home. So they technically don’t have to test, if their willing to do the quarantine. I’ve heard many stories of this happening, an witnessed this from a few people on flights that were held up at the checkpoints.

Seriously though, do you think their going to quarantine for 10 days, if they aren’t going to follow their own state’s rules? 🤔

  7. The longer we wait, the longer the eventual shutdown. Covid virus variants ain’t gonna wait for your wishy-washy response, attitude, and policies. And then you’ll being clawing out of a deeper trench. Everyone, and I m an everyone needs to suck it up for a minimum of three weeks. Remember today’s date and see where we’re at in three weeks.

    1. Oh, it’s 3 weeks to flatten the curve now? What happened to 2 weeks?

The gullibility of some people is astounding…

Speaking of gullibility… Masks no longer protect people enough indoors? Instead, we can now let infected vaccinated people indoors to infect other vaccinated people…But can’t let unvaccinated people indoors with the same or possibly less viral loads, with a mask? Brilliant…. Atleast it’s good science that a group of vaccinated people can be together and still have to wear their masks!

  8. We’re done with Hawaii. This is the third trip planned and canceled. Will definitely find somewhere else to go.

    18
    1. Yes, us too. However, we own 3 weeks on Kauai’s North Shore. We have been trading our time for elsewhere for 2 years now, but this still costs us money. We need to get out of it now, and just forget about returning to the lovely island we were married on.

      10
      1. Really all you folks shouldn’t be upset with Hawaii. It is ALL(Hawaiian and Mainlander) the people who refuse to get vaccinated who are to blame for this continuation. And of course, all we need is another even more dangerous mutation which will throw us all back on our heels as the stopping of the virus depends on vaccination.

        21
        1. Fact, all viruses mutate. Fact, mutated viruses are Less Deadly than the initial virus, not more dangerous. Fact, people that have had Covid have antibodies and don’t need the ‘jab’. Not everyone can, or should, take this vaccine. Furthermore, this is not a “true vaccine”, if it were, it would stop and/or kill the virus. It does not! Ige and Green are wholly to blame because at this point it’s all about politics, money, and control. Never in the history of the world have people been threatened, forced, intimidated, and ostracized because of a virus that has a 99.97% survival rate. What’s in this so called vaccine? What are the long term affects? Do you know how many people have died after taking these Covid vaccines? Over 45,000 in the US alone but it’s hard to find that info because the media and government are suppressing those facts.

          2
          1. Beat of Hawaii gents, you should really remove this comment – do you really want to be responsible for the continued spread of misinformation? There is zero evidence that 45k people have died from taking the covid vaccine.

            2
          2. Goldie, You are spreading totally false info that 45000 have died from the vaccines….simply not true. The entire medical community and scientific research community has not managed to pull together and keep what you said a secret. You are not privy to some special knowledge that they are withholding from the public for some reason.
If you don’t want to get the vaccine nobody is forcing you. But why are you trying to influence others from doing something that could save their life?? Why do you want to influence their freedom to choose.
The people dying from Covid now are the unvaccinated. Many of them were vulnerable to misinformation like you just posted and are dying everyday because of it.
            .

    2. Good Day AP.

We also are preparing to cancel our two round trips of late 2021 and early 2022.

It is not that we feel done with Hawaii; it is we now strongly sense Hawaii is done with us.

      14
    3. Good luck finding any islands anywhere that will take you for any less than Hawaii is doing. That being said I love each of you who have decided not to come to Hawaii anymore. More room and better prices for the rest of us!

  9. I am getting cancellations to my tourist business. They are specifically doing so because of Gov Ige’s appeal to not come. My customers sited they did not want to compete for a local”s bed at the hospital etc. So I have the unvaccinated of Hawaii” to thank for that. If you are vaccinated your chances of a hospital visit is almost nil. Get vaccinated so we can all get back to work and give our hospital workers a break.

    1. The news has reported that 9/10 infected persons are VACCINATED. So get off your high horse and thank the man in the mirror. Or, better yet, your elected officials.

      12
      1. Source? This flies in the face of everything medical and science professionals say. I would suggest skipping media, alternative or mainstream, and going straight to sites that report such data.

        8
      2. What about those of us who have already had covid and have natural aminity? I do not plan on getting the shot when in fact I have a better amunity than those that have gotten the shot.
        MK

        4
        1. Mike there is zero proof that your immunity is any better than the vaccine. In fact this is an upper respiratory virus for which we have very few natural immunities against

      3. I don’t know where you’re getting your information. I’m a healthcare worker directly in the middle of the madness of a pandemic. Nearly 80% of San Diego us now fully vaccinated. I work in a very big hospital. Every one of our inpatient Covid19 positive patients are ALL unvaccinated. Some even came into our ER saying this Covid thing was a hoax and we better not give them any of those fake Covid medications. They ended up on a ventilator. Yeah if you have the vaccine you can still get sick. Just not nearly as bad. If you get a flu vaccine you can still get the flu. Your body has antibodies to fight it off better though.
Bottom line: get the vaccine. There is a reason so many diseases have been eradicated…..vaccines.

        7
      4. But those 9 of 10 ( IF your “news is correct) aren’t overwhelming your Hawaiian hospitals. Ask the doctors & nurses. A Maui nurse recently posted that 98% of their hospitalized COVID patients were UNvaccinated. I believe the nurse.
