  1. Thank you for doing such a great job of keeping us informed!!!

IMHO everything rests with the governor… leadership listens and communicates direction. When there’s a lack of communication, generally there’s a lack of listening.

Thank you Beat of Hawaii for your leadership in communicating what you learn! Without this great information, I would have no idea what is going on or what plans to make!

    1. Aloha,
I’m amazed and very disappointed that no mention was made of our hospital status. Maui ICU is full and all the major islands now have back up canvas facilities on “stand by“. Hopefully we will remain closed until we can care for guests who require medical assistance and all deferred surgeries or procedures have been completed for our Residents.
      Mahalo.

      1. Thank you for the medical update. And thank you for injecting a note of common sense and reality into the conversation.

  2. If Hawaii wants to get tourism going again, why can’t airlines serving its destinations simply do the body temperature scan, plus require everyone to be taking the hydroxychloroquine/Z-pack combination in order to visit? To board the plane, also require a current statement of good health from one’s doctor dated within 7 days of embarkation. Countries like Uganda with high malaria risk are using hydroxychloroquine and have low levels of Covid-19 for their populations. Let’s get busy living again and get companies back in business.

    1. Hydroxychloquin has not been proven to be effective for Covid, although it is a proven treatment for malaria and lupus. Using it for 10’s of thousands of people per week who simply want to vacation would create a shortage of the drug for the people who need it to live (I have 2 nieces with lupus, who take it, and this has created shortages for them). PLEASE, follow medical advice. Only take those drugs or treatments that are PROVEN effective in the treatment of Covid. There ARE side effects to this drug. Some people die.

      1. Hydroxychloroquine Indeed has been proved effective For Covid and saved lives Ur ill informed
        U suffer from bureaucratic fauci-itis

Drs have used it many times saving lives recently

        1. Can you show me the link for the scientific studies or is this just more “I heard” evidence. My father was a scientist (was on the team that developed the heat shield for the Mercury space flights). Everything is test, test, test. Peer review. You don’t just say, “Hey I heard the guys down the street thinks chewing gum can hold together in high heat – lets try that when we put the astronaut up in orbit”. No. You test. All the tests with hydroxy didn’t work. They had one that looked promising, but it couldn’t be duplicated. When it went before review, they found out that the reason was because he only gave it to people who weren’t very sick. In other words, it wasn’t a BLIND study. He gave it to people who he knew were going to get well. All the other studies came out the same. No benefit.

          1. U must be a flat earther

Ill informed Re hydroxy dr-patient usev

Dr testimonials all over planet been saving lives for 5 mos with hydroxychloroquine +\- azithromax/ zinc.
            Where have you been?

Main Stream Media rejects anything President endorses

            Ur unaware of that fact

            4-7-20 Detroit Free Press
Dem Lawmaker thx hydroxy and Pres for saving her life. There 1000s others thankful for the drug saving their lives

            I rest my case

          2. Unfortunately, that is not scientific proof. Lots of people survive the virus without any treatment at all. Lots of people die being given quack medicine. The president is neither a scientist nor a doctor, although he likes to refute the evidence based research of both. I have believed in science my whole life – my father was a scientist. I will always follow the science. No flat earther here. That belongs to your president to wants you to inject disinfectant into your body and brings a woman doctor who believes in demon sperm to tout his beliefs.

        2. Please site your proof. I think it is fair to wonder who is falling for what. The medical evidence via trials disagrees with you. I would appreciate you sharing why you have come to this opinion. Thank you.

          1. Plenty of drs out their Using it and successfully saving infected ppls lives in many countries
Find the many online evidences of such
Uve been brainwashed and propagandized By the bias Radical left media

            7-2-20
“Henry Ford health system study shows hydroxychloroquine significantly reduces death rate in COVID-19 patients“ 91% success rate Re study

And many other web stories from physicians over last 5 mos using the rx with high% success rate when treated early within 48 hrs of known virus contraction

            Key is early rx trmt

          2. That was the study I was talking about that was not blind. If you only give it to people that aren’t that sick, that you figure are going to survive, well guess what? You’re going to have good results! The only way to tell if something works is to have a totally randomized trial. They didn’t do that.

        3. Amen! Mark, you hit the nail on the head! The left has made this drug political. If the president hadn’t endorsed it the drug would be used without controversy. What a shame!

          Mahalo,
          TJ

          1. Actually TJ, if Trump didn’t have such a strong record of deceitful, petty, vindictive behavior he might be worthy of listening to. I prefer to believe experts that know what they are talking about and have experience in the field over a narcissist who thinks his hunch’s are more valid then expert opinions …..it’s real easy to find support for any argument you want to make on the internet, doesn’t mean it’s true………everyone on the left and the right is sick of this and want it over, I seriously doubt anyone in the press is trying to stand in the way of anything that would be a legitimate “cure”. If there was a cure out there any reporter would love to bring it to light if it could be proven to work. It would not be possible to get every reporter in the country to sit on news as important as a cure that works just to spite Trump…..Fox News if anything would be gloating about how Trump was right. Beside Trump, another reason we are doing so poorly in the battle against Covid is the conspiracy theorists and anti mask brigade…..big road block to working together as a country and putting this behind us.

    2. “why can’t airlines serving its destinations simply do the body temperature scan, plus require everyone to be taking the hydroxychloroquine/Z-pack combination in order to visit? ”
Because neither of those measures is very effective. The scan misses a lot of fever; many people with COVID have no fever, and the drug combination is sketchy at best. It seems to alleviate symptoms; it is not a cure.

  3. Just cancelled my third attempt to visit the Islands since this began. I totally understand the need to protect the community, but to keep moving the bar without a plan to actually restore the economic health of the region is just beyond belief. I hope that a vaccine is developed, tested, and released soon. I don’t expect I will rebook until at least 6 months after Hawaii reopens, to allow time for the industry of tourism to recover, and people who work in it to figure out the safety and logistical issues. Stay safe and healthy Hawaii.

  4. My Homeowner’s meeting has already been canceled for November and now we have to have the meeting via Zoom! Have cancelled all of my trips to Kaua’i for this year… and this will be the first year of not visiting the islands since 1989 Property taxes coming due with “0” rental income is a tough pill to swallow. Watch for the “fire sale” of vacation condos in the coming months for owner’s who don’t have enough funds in reserve.

  5. Thank you for all you do in keeping those of us that love to read Beat of Hawaii. You’ve always been informative, shared great places to visit, have the best tips and ideas. Thanks…I really enjoy your communications. I look forward to the day with Kauai is open to travel again; it’s my family’s favorite vacation spot. God bless you, and have a blessed day.

  6. Why in the world would anyone believe that the politicians would have answers?
They’re all being paid, fed, transported, protected, and have better medical care than any of us peasants.
This is ludacris and the people need to rise up and demand answers.
I’d like to say that I don’t care, but I do care. I love Hawai’i and pray every day for our people and families.
Again, mahalo to Beat of Hawai’i for always informing the people about the abhorrent behavior of our elected officials.
    God help us all.
    🌺

  7. This is all just sad!! I am just trying to come home to bury my father… And now with all the new restrictions I don’t even think we can have the funeral.. Not to mention the quarantine rules..

  8. I think the primary failure is the federal government failure to give concrete guidance to the states. State Health departments traditionally rely on federal guidance for these sorts of large scale serious health crises.

So, I don’t blame Hawaii at all. Most states are struggling to figure this out. I will be back to Hawaii in 2021 after this passes. I wish all the best to Hawaii in fighting this pandemic.

    1. TL
When the President said that the federal government would be in charge, there was a huge outcry of overreach and demands that he allow the states to deal with the pandemic in whatever way they see fit. Well, he gave them what they wanted….control, and now look what is happening to Hawaii. The truth is, there are states that are doing very well at handling this and Gov. Ige would benefit from following their lead. South Dakota is just one of those examples they could learn from. There is also no reason why the Gov. could not request from the federal government the use of the USS Mercy or the USS Comfort to handle any overflow issues they may have with the healthcare facilities, but he has not done so. To blame anyone other than your governor is just passing the buck and giving Ige and his administration a pass for destroying the livelihood of so many Hawaiian citizens.
What is happening to Hawaii is so very sad and the longer this is permitted to go on, the more damage is being done to the tourist industry. And, while many detest the tourists, the hard truth is that those tourists keep a roof over the heads, clothes on the backs and food on the tables of the majority of Hawaii’s citizens. There will be a number of visitors who will find somewhere else to spend their winter months and may never return, because let’s face it….the Hawaii that they know and love will not be the same place they had visited all those years in the past. The number of homeless will undoubtedly increase substantially….a large portion of the businesses they frequented will be gone for good, and there is now a huge undertone of resentment and hate that is being directed at those who do visit the islands. It may make people feel better to let Ige off the hook and blame others for the misery and suffering that is going on in the state, but the only way to end it is for the people to put unrelenting pressure on him to do what is right.

      1. South Dakota: 180 deaths per million population.
Hawai’i: 32 deaths per million population.
South Dakota: 10.7 people per square mile.
Hawai’i: 223 people per square mile.
It’s well known that population density is a major factor in the spread of disease in general and C19 in particular.
So with a fraction (1/20th) of the population density, SD has managed almost 6x the number of deaths per million.
Not a good model to follow.
