DO you have any hints on how to find these fares? We are looking to take a group of 10 to Oahu in June, and I would take any of them (I’m looking at the United/Hawaiian ones out of SEA, SFO or PDX), but I can’t find them on the carrier websites or on google/flights. I also looked at SAN>LIH, but I can’t find that one either. 🙁 Just wondering if there is a better site to use or what I’m doing wrong.
Aloha, Any suggestions for best fares flying out of Des Moines, IA or Omaha, NE? Very flexible on dates. I’m a huge fan of your website & use to live on Oahu. Mahalo, Julie
Hmmm. Not sure. We just tried many links in that post and they all worked correctly. Anything specific that you are looking for that we can try to help with? Also keep in mind that deals from January 2 won’t likely be valid on January 15.
(Just sharing my experience)
You snooze you lose – got to reading my email alert from Beat Of Hawaii late, at 2:45 pm PST I priced SFO to OGG for 4/3-4/10 and got $382 which was a very good price specially considering that is spring break week, then at 3pm I refreshed and the fares jumped up to $573 – ARGGGH!!!
Lesson learned and memo to self – do not delay in reading BOH alerts!
Still wondering if you have advice for “buy now” or “wait” for Sacramento to Honolulu in July 2018… Sacramento is only serviced by Alaska (which only goes direct to Maui from there; adding inter-island increases cost/flight time significantly) and Hawaiian. For those reasons, I’m not thinking we’ll see lesser prices for high season travel and am considering booking now (egads, though, $910…that’s rough!). Your thoughts?
Hello and happy holidays!
I am planning a huge family trip 16 of us to be exact, leaving Lax to Kona for June 21-28. I have been looking for sales or large group discounts but so far I have not found anything under $780-$800 is this normal for this time of year?? Should I book now or wait for a sale??
Conventional wisdom on this is to book as far in advance as possible and contact the group travel desk of the airlines flying your route. Because of new routes there is a remote possibility of unexpected discounting. That is anything but certain however and cannot be counted on. Your dates are very high season. With a group discount, expect to pay approx. $700 per person.
This site never fails!!! Been watching a very specific travel window for a few weeks. Prices have remained at a “default” high price. Saw this post and jumped over to Hawaiian Airlines. $297 RT LAX>HNL mid Feb. *Bows to the oracle*
Thanks so much for letting us know. It makes us happy to hear when the deals work out for visitors. And comments like ours keeps us at it after 10 years.
Aloha ! We are traveling to Maui from NYC the second week of May. I know right now Hawaiian Airlines has a sale but it’s only through the end of March. Do you think they will have another sale and the prices will go down for the middle of May? Thank you in advance! Ps. Love this website !
Thank you. Yes it is a bit too early for those dates to be on sale. Maybe within the next month or so we should start to see spring sale dates that go through May.
Long-time fan of yours — keep up the great work! I’ve been to most Hawaiian islands, finding that my favorite place by far is North Shore Kauai, which my wife also likes. However, she is a geology nut who loves the Big Island as well, so when we have an opportunity to visit Hawaii both islands must be visited (happy wife = happy life). Is there a way to take advantage of special rates like these flying from SJC to ITO or KOA, staying a week or so, then flying to LIH for a visit there before returning to SJC? I am hoping to pay only about $50 or so per person to add the inter-island segment — is that possible or wildly optimistic?
Always good to hear from you and mahalo for being a long reader and commentor!
Yes $50 is wildly optimistic. Unless there’s a new inter-island airline, expect to pay about $110 between Big Island and Kauai. Otherwise, yes almost all fares to Hawaii seem to be one-way so that you can do just as you suggested and build your own open jaw routing.
Aloha,
I recieved an email about flight deals starting at $168. I haven;t found anything even close to that price when I click on the links. It says the deals expire 12/21. I’d really like to get cost effective air fare. Am i doing something wrong?
Mahalo,
Charity
Prices are as listed when post is published. You need to read how to find the deals, the use of the monthly calendar, the months that are listed for the price quoted, etc.
Thank you for the quick response. I was looking to fly from San Francisco to Kona, 08/30 – 09/04. It was roughly $430 on their site 🙁 I suppose: San Francisco $181 to $209, was too good to be true
C’est la vie
We booked one way tickets from LAX to LIH for June 7th using Alaska miles when the route went on sale last month. We need to book one way return flight some time around the 16th-18th of June but prices are holding steady for those dates which is understandable being summer and near father’s day. I’m thinking that we may as well wait it out and see if we can catch a sale with one of the airlines or a brief fare war as they are unlikely to go higher than they are now. Any advice on timing or what a fair price would be for LIH to LAX or SAN non-stop?
Aloha! We are planning to visit my sister and her dear family on the Big Island July 18-Aug 2.
I have been watching the flights from Washington DC to Kona for three weeks now and price has been $385 for a Tues-Thurs flight. I was waiting for my husband to agree to a vacation before I booked the flight.
All of a sudden when I checked today it seems the price on American Airlines went up. Did I miss my chance or should I wait for United to come on board Dec 20th? Or is it the normal Friday price fluctuation and price should be back to normal by the middle of the week??
Prices on that route vary between $1,000 and $1,200. Midweek is the cheapest. Those are peak summer travel date. We have no reason to think that will get cheaper and that price is as normal.
Beat of Hawaii seems to be a great source for Hawaii travel tips. Next year, my wife and I are going to Kauai (April 6th-13th) and Kona (April 13th-27th). We would leave and return from Sacramento or Reno. Is there anyway of keeping track of the cost of the multi-city itinerary we have in mind (SMF/RNO TO LIH TO KOA TO SMF/RNO)?
I am delighted to read all your tips. Thank you. We are traveling from Salt Lake City Utah to Honolulu may 1-8. What Can I expect to pay and when should I buy? Thanks so muc
About $600 now on Delta nonstop. Could improve by up to $100 if you wait – although we can’t say for sure it will or if so when. Those dates probably won’t book up so you don’t need to worry about that.
First, the post clearly states pricing for that route as follows: “Los Angeles $198 until December.”
With regards to a phone number, it also states: “Available to book online only.”
Lastly, what we have to offer may just not be a good fit for your needs. It works for a huge number of other people, which is why we have millions of visitors each year.
I have never booked a flight for Hawaii and My wife and I are going to Honolulu to visit our daughter sometime between March 25th through April 2nd. What should we be prepared to spend for RT tickets? Thank You
From San Diego. You should expect to spend about $850, for those spring break/high season dates. It might come down if you wait, but on the other hand, you also might not be coming.
Hi! I’ve been using your site for deals for several years, thank you for all the great tips! We’re looking to travel to Kauai from Oakland in the first week of April. Do you think prices will come down or is this as good as it gets?
I’m leaving the week before from Oakland — the last week of March. Is that still considered “high season”? Should I wait for a cheaper direct flight from Oak to Lihue (Alaska Air is the only direct one). Mahalo!
With no further news about Southwest Airlines to Hawaii, should I pay the 850 round trip from lax to Maui and kona for summer 2018 now or wait. Don’t want to pay too much now if things are going to change soon but worried about prices going up. I appreciate your views.
There is significant downward pressure on prices for next year, even without SWA. Gut call is to wait and target $700 or less. It might not work, but you asked for our view and there you have it.
I want to travel from Houston to Honolulu 4/5/18-4/12/18 or 4/14/18. There will be 8 of us traveling. Will the prices from the $945 range in the coming months?
Mahalo for always keeping us up to date on great airfares! I am running into a problem with the last three emails I’ve received that include links with the destination and flight price.
Each time I click on the link under Honolulu Deals, the link doesn’t bring me anywhere. I tried each city, and it’s not bringing me to another site. I am particularly interested int he Honolulu to NYC for $358 one way. Can someone help? Thank you! 🙂
Looking to travel with family from SF Bay Area to Honolulu over spring break 2018 (mid-late February). Last year prices were about $900 RT nonstop.
Are we looking about the same for this year? Suggestions for best month to buy?
Aloha! I’d like to go to the big island of Hawaii in December or January. Currently the cheapest flights are $497 RT through Hawaiian Airlines from Oakland, CA. Do you anticipate any deals that could make the flights cheaper than that? Thank you!
I’m looking to fly to Maui solo anytime in the next 7 months from Toronto. Any suggestions on when to book and for which dates to travel would be greatly appreciated.
I went from Lihue to Toronto last year March? by myself it was about $700 something RT. I think that’s pretty much the lowest it goes. I booked with United.
I don’t see these prices at all when I use the links here. I entered dates and then clicked dates backward and forward to look at the best prices, an all I get is $600+ RT from Portland. What’s the trick? Thanks.
Mahalo for your helpful articles and responses. My wife and I are planning to travel on Alaska’s PDX HNL nonstop flight using the companion voucher, either in late Feb / early March or in April 2018. The companion voucher expires 1/2/18, so we have to purchase by then. What do you think a good target price is that I should watch for?
Hello! Thanks for all the info you provide. I’m looking to fly my family of 4 from any NYC airports to Maui the 2nd week of April, or just a tad before. Flights are around $900 per ticket. Do you think they will go down? Or do you think these would stay as they are for spring break vacations?
It largely depends on duration and stops. So right now $806 on United for early April with a quick connection in SFO. Those might come down by about $100. If you don’t mind a 20 hour duration instead of 13, then price might be as low as $600 or so. Just keep watching if you decide to wait, as we can’t say when that might happen.

Hi Julie.
Thanks! The best prices for spring are $693 and for fall $750 from OMA. DSM is about $50 higher in general. On United.
Aloha.

Hi this is Jason
I am having trouble finding a great deal from San Antonio To Honolulu. I am flying out the 2nd week of April.
Are there any scheduled deals expected to be out?

Hi Jason.
You can expect to pay about $650 (though that price is not yet available but should be soon). Doubtful it will be cheaper than that.

your info are always very helpful, are there any recommendations for
first class trips from lax to hawaii?
Hi Wolfgang.
Not really any recommendations. Those don’t go on sale. It is often cheapest as a mileage award on an airline, if that is available to you.
Aloha.
when and which airline is the best to fly to hawaii on from Wisconsin
Aloha! We are planning to visit my sister and her dear family on the Big Island July 18-Aug 2.

Prices on that route vary between $1,000 and $1,200. Midweek is the cheapest. Those are peak summer travel date. We have no reason to think that will get cheaper and that price is as normal.
Aloha.
What town is that in the pic?
love this site, appreciate your help!
do you ever see deals out of SLC?
Hi Rebecca.
It is unfortunately somewhat rare. We wouldn’t be surprised to see new flights from SLC added in the future however.

Hi Bob.
You can try tracking on Google Flights. $545 on Hawaiian.
Aloha.
ANY chance of deals like this to Maui and big island July 12-29th of 2018? Dates are firm.
Mahalo
Hi Lisa.
Highly unlikely for peak summer dates.
Aloha.
Sad, sad, sad …. no flights from seattle to kona!???
we live in spokane, our best best for flights are seattle or portland … nada!
why? and, can we expect one SOON???
thanks … darlene
Hi Darlene.
Suggest switching to Delta or United from Seattle if you want to save $200.
Aloha.
thank you .. i regret flying united — their customer service atrocious n rude ..
we love hawai’ian airlines .. for our last four trips, we fly out of seattle — why no more??
thanks .. darlene
Hi Darlene.
It’s all about competition. The other players are asserting themselves in that market which has been Hawaiian’s territory.
Aloha.

I am going to Oahu 3/21 to 3/26 from Los Angeles. It is always $500 round trip even though you advertise $168 each way. It does not seem to be there.
Tell me how to get this fare. Tell me what phone number. I am continually frustrated by the fares you publish that I cannot get.
Please solve this problem.
Hi Dave.

Hi Lisa.
First 10 days of month are high season so don’t currently see likelihood of it improving.
Aloha.
I’m leaving the week before from Oakland — the last week of March. Is that still considered “high season”? Should I wait for a cheaper direct flight from Oak to Lihue (Alaska Air is the only direct one). Mahalo!
Hi Debbie.
End of March to early April is high season/spring break. It looks both tight and expensive.
Aloha.
With no further news about Southwest Airlines to Hawaii, should I pay the 850 round trip from lax to Maui and kona for summer 2018 now or wait. Don’t want to pay too much now if things are going to change soon but worried about prices going up. I appreciate your views.

Hi Carol.
There is significant downward pressure on prices for next year, even without SWA. Gut call is to wait and target $700 or less. It might not work, but you asked for our view and there you have it.

Have you considered flying from Sam Diego? We just purchased tix for $361 round trip in Late May. I saw the same dares in June and July as well!
I want to travel from Houston to Honolulu 4/5/18-4/12/18 or 4/14/18. There will be 8 of us traveling. Will the prices from the $945 range in the coming months?
Hi Miranda.
Not sure if it will come down, but there is no harm in waiting since your dates are post spring break.
Aloha.
Hello, I’ve been watching flights from SMF to OGG for the first of March and the prices haven’t been changing any. Do you think they will drop any?
Aloha!
I have been a subscriber for the past few months. Some great deals. But looking for some Chicago to Honolulu deals.
Article I read yesterday suggested Mid December. We are planning a 1/27-2/14 vacation.
Any suggestions or expectations?
Mahalo!
Kepola
Hi Debra.
Sadly $750 to $850 with reasonably quick connections. Doubtful it will improve. In the future we all hope for flights from the midwest.
Aloha.
What dates are you looking at to get $166 one way from Seattle to Kona? I looked, but everything I could find was over $500 round trip.
Mahalo for always keeping us up to date on great airfares! I am running into a problem with the last three emails I’ve received that include links with the destination and flight price.

Hi Karen.
Clicking the link New York $358 takes you to Hawaiian Airlines where you can book.
Aloha.
Hello,
Looking to travel with family from SF Bay Area to Honolulu over spring break 2018 (mid-late February). Last year prices were about $900 RT nonstop.
Are we looking about the same for this year? Suggestions for best month to buy?
Thanks and l love your site!
Hi Mia.
Spring break in terms of airfares isn’t until towards end of March. There are fares under $400 currently available for all of February.
Aloha.
Aloha! I’d like to go to the big island of Hawaii in December or January. Currently the cheapest flights are $497 RT through Hawaiian Airlines from Oakland, CA. Do you anticipate any deals that could make the flights cheaper than that? Thank you!
Stephanie
Hi Stephanie.
There are fares of $497RT on Alaska Airlines. That’s probably the best you’ll find.
Aloha.
Hello, looking for non stop from San Diego to KOA October. 11-16th. Please tell me the best deal on which airline. Thank you so much.
Hi Jacqueline.
There is no nonstop service on that route for your dates.
Aloha.
Hello,
Looking to fly from St. Louis, MO to HNL. June 2nd, return the 9th. Any idea on prices for r/t?
Thanks,
Mike
Hi Mike.
Looks like about $900 RT. Given those are Saturdays, it may not improve.
Aloha.
I’m looking to fly to Maui solo anytime in the next 7 months from Toronto. Any suggestions on when to book and for which dates to travel would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Nicole.
Toronto is no different than other non-west coast cities in terms of planning. Our best guidance on dates is here: https://beatofhawaii.com/the-cheapest-time-to-fly-to-hawaii/. After that let us know if you have further questions.
Aloha.
I went from Lihue to Toronto last year March? by myself it was about $700 something RT. I think that’s pretty much the lowest it goes. I booked with United.
Looking to fly from Missoula Montana to Kauai anywhere between Feb-April. What does it look like for fares? Thanks.
Hi Conal.
About $650 with a good connection.
Aloha.
I don’t see these prices at all when I use the links here. I entered dates and then clicked dates backward and forward to look at the best prices, an all I get is $600+ RT from Portland. What’s the trick? Thanks.
Hi Tracy.
We confirmed prices were available as quoted at the time they were published.
Aloha.
Aloha! Please tell me your prediction for nonstop HNL-PDX Feb 2018. Hopefully lower than $500? Thank you so much!!!
Hi Nadia.
Low $400’s on nonstop. Not sure that will improve as it is well priced.
Aloha.
Thank you very much.
Jeff
Hi Jeff.
For your specifics, look like high $400’s will be the best price. Late March to early April won’t work due to spring break.
Aloha.
Hello! Thanks for all the info you provide. I’m looking to fly my family of 4 from any NYC airports to Maui the 2nd week of April, or just a tad before. Flights are around $900 per ticket. Do you think they will go down? Or do you think these would stay as they are for spring break vacations?
Thanks,
Jillian
Hi Jullian.
Aloha.
