  1. Remember, 13 brave American GI’s died today, plus dozens of innocent Afghan civilians. If you can’t get to Hawaii this year, it will still be there in 2022. I won’t go into detail, but as a Vietnam vet, I’ve seen the aftermath of these types of attacks. People are literally blown to bits. Please keep a perspective on not getting to Hawai in 2021. Keep your loved ones close.

    1. Thank you for this comment. People seem to have totally lost perspective. It’s a vacation. Anyone who says they are ‘losing money’ knew when they booked that they were doing so during a worldwide pandemic. (Unless, of course, you booked pre-March 2020.)

  2. My wife and I are planning on coming to the big Island in late September. Unless something else changes , we will not chnage our plans. Honestly, the only people to blame for all of this are incompetent Hawaiian Govt Officials and people who simply will not get vaccinated, for whatever reason escapes me.

    1. Mark calls the Hawaiian government incompetent while its the residents refusing to get vaccinated. So what are you saying here Mark? You are for mandatory vaccinations for all hawaiian citizens?

  3. Until Hawaii, and all of the states, get proactively serious, we’re just going to chase our tails. Economics, politics, and stupidity will continue to plague any efforts to fight this out of control virus. Unless we bite the bullet seriously like New Zealand, whom conformed to a proactive and controversial strategy immediately, we’re just kidding ourselves. What’s really hypocritical are the radio and television broadcasters. One minute they’re telling us how bad the news is on the virus surge. Then during commercial break, they’re advertising Vacations Hawaii, encouraging us to go to Las Vegas to have fun, with no regards to the inevitable dangers of doing such. Again, take a serious look at New Zealand. I made these same comments over a year ago. Unfortunately, I’ll probably be writing these same suggestions down a year from now.

    1. the news doesnt drive advertising. If the news were promoting the vacations that would be one thing but they arent. Thats private corporate business driving those commercials.

  4. I feel being in HI is about as safe as being at home. The tricky part is the plane rides – but I think being vaccinated plus a good mask (kn-95) mitigates a lot of the risk.

I think we’re all going to be dealing with COVID for the foreseeable future so we just have to learn to minimize the risks.

I never stopped wearing masks indoors after being vaccinated, if I go out to eat – it’s outdoor dining or takeout. I think too many people rushed to get back to ‘normal’ and it backfired. There’s no such thing as normal anymore.

P.S. I don’t plan to cancel my HI vacation because between testing and being mindful/careful I don’t see what undue risk or burden my visit would bring.

  5. We’ve had a trip planned to Maui for Sept 7-16 since last April. My husband and I are both fully vaccinated but have rescheduled our trip for March 2022. Luckily we had travelers’ insurance and were able to change our plans. I totally understand those who feel they can’t cancel and will travel respectfully.

    Thank you for the update

  6. I wish Hawaii would determine a no visitor policy. We plan to come September 25th. We can’t get our money back from Air BNB without official restrictions.

    1. I’m going first week of October and nothing is gonna stop it. Unless they lock it down. Just go ! Plenty of space and no crowds to be away from the dreaded boogie man

  7. We are headed to Maui Oct 1. We are lovers of the island and the culture and will be taking all precautions to make sure we keep ourselves safe, as well as all residents.

  8. I also have a trip planned for October and will be going unless they absolutely say we can’t come. The 4 in my group of age to be vaccinated are, and the one that’s not will be tested as requested. We can’t wait!

  9. I just had my booster and I’m coming for a month. Had my flu shot too. Not living in the government uncertainty and fear….

    1. Anyone have recent experience with Uber or Lyft on Kauai?
Cars are sold out everywhere for December, and at the moment, I have flights and lodging for my family – six of us in all – to go for Christmas. One of the condos is my own vacation rental property. All of us are vaccinated.
Looks like we’ll be walking everywhere!
      Laurie

  10. We have a trip planned in October and still plan on going! We rescheduled from last year, which I wanted to be there on my 65th birthday. Im not cancelling again unless I am told that we absolutely have to!! It will be me, my husband, and my sister. We have no children traveling with us and we have all been vaccinated!

    1. Will be there in September unless I have a positive test. Was supposed to go in January but test came back positive despite having no symptoms whatsoever.
