Hawaiian Airlines COVID Tests + Suggestions

New Mail-In/Drive-Thru Hawaiian Airlines COVID Tests + Suggestions

Hawaiian Airlines COVID tests have finally come online. They were scheduled to begin October 15 with the resumption of Hawaii travel. That in order to avoid a mandatory 14-day quarantine. The bellwether airline previously announced a mobile testing lab in San Francisco and Los Angeles. Today they have added mail-in tests offered by Vault Health which are available nationwide.

Hawaiian Air partners with Vault Labs for mail-in testing.

Currently available for all US addresses, these are the $150 video supervised, at-home tests that many of you have already mentioned using successfully. These are ordered via the Hawaiian Airlines website to ensure prioritized processing.

Tip: It takes 2 days to receive the test kit. You must order in time to be able to test 72 hours prior to your transpacific flight. If you live in Hawaii, you can have the kit sent before your trip so you’ll have it for the trip home. Recent comments noted they didn’t request and receive the test kits in time.

Once you are at 72 hours prior to the final leg of your flight to Hawaii, you will log in to Vault Health and connect with a test supervisor over a Zoom video call. They guide you through the saliva collection after which the sample is returned to Vault. Results are available within 24 hours after the lab receives your sample according to Vault. So again, be sure you send right away to have enough processing time. Vault tests are available for all ages (5+) that require COVID testing to avoid quarantine.

Hawaiian Air drive-through testing now underway.

For a fee of $90, this previously announced testing will be available within the required 72 hours, whereas for $150, tests are taken and results returned on the day of travel (in less than 5 hours). Test results are obtained using a phone app. The service is being offered in dedicated portable labs, the first of which is now operational. It is located in San Francisco, about 10 miles from San Francisco Airport. Los Angeles was to be the next test facility online. As of today, however, Hawaiian says only, “More locations coming soon; check back for more information. It was our understanding Hawaiian plans to expand to cover most if not all of their 11 mainland gateway cities.

It is not clear what the minimum age is for testing at Worksite Labs.

Hawaiian Air SVP Avi Mannis said “As Hawai’i’s leading airline, it is critical to ensure that access to testing does not impede travel to Hawai‘i, for visitors or our kama‘āina (residents)… Our testing option will offer Los Angeles and Bay Area travelers superior value and we look forward to expanding the program and bringing additional choices to more of our gateway cities as we welcome guests back.”

  1. I’m reading positive comments about Vault… I used them, but still haven’t gotten my result for my flight tomorrow morning!
I’m starting to stress and wonder if I need a back-up plan. I was not told to write “Hawaii stat” on my envelope, but the nurse confirmed that there was a neon yellow stripe, which apparently meant priority. My boyfriend took his test at the same time, and already got his results this morning.
There’s not really any contact info for Vault except an email address… If my results aren’t back before my flight, I’m not even sure if I should risk going! So stressful.
