  1. Our family of 5 adults and 2 kids planning to go to Oahu on 6/18-6/25 from Oak or SFO, which ever is cheaper, Should I buy now or will prices drop a bit.

    1. Hi Donna.

Probably won’t drop for your dates – $753 and might or might not go up. But if you go and return one day earlier from OAK, $608 on Hawaiian. If that works buy it now. Great price.

      Aloha.

  2. Hello-

I put a comment on here yesterday but I think it got deleted. Would you recommend waiting to buy tickets to Maui from Denver? We are wanting to go the last two weeks of September. Thanks!

    1. Hi Faith,

We did reply yesterday but here it is again:

Yes September for every reason including $. It’s just a way nicer time to be in Hawaii if you have that flexibility. Denver doesn’t see many deals. We are seeing over $700 to any island as of this evening. You might wait until summer and keep watching as availability isn’t an issue.

      Aloha.

  3. Hi. I am looking for the best way to get back to states after arriving in Hawaii. Or the best time to book back. I am a non rev and found easy flights to get in but coming back I have heard is hard to do. Any suggestions? The flights back are adding a day of travel. Just want to make sure if I book for family and I, that we book a time that it is slow so we don’t have problems getting home. Thanks so much.

  4. We are planning a trip to Oahu mid-May, from Bellingham. Currently Alaska shows $376 RT for mid-week departures. Do you expect this might still go down a bit? They had some sales of $298 RT for Feb and March. Not sure whether to buy now or still wait a bit… Thanks!

    1. Hi Ivan,

Not sure. Bellingham is becoming less competitive so it may not improve. Probably no harm in waiting though as availability then won’t be an issue.

      Aloha.

      1. go to another computer (friend, public place)…Once you start searching on your own computer or device, the airline website locks in your computer or device. The prices go up as you search. Be prepared to take the deals when you see them. In other words, search deals first at the public library, not on your own computer or device, then go home and grab the deal when you have found one that suits you!

  5. Hi, You may have responded to my prior email but I missed it. We are looking to fly (3 persons) from LAX to the Big Island mid August for 10 days to return on or about Aug. 27. When should we buy tickets and what prices can we expect to pay? Should we fly into Kona? Thanks much!!!

    1. Hi Lori,

Yes we did reply to your previous comment:

Best hope would be in the $400’s. Don’t know if or when that will materialize but for sure it is too early now. Maybe late spring or after. Stay tuned.

      Aloha.

  6. Hi there. Our dates are 6/14-6/21. We are a group of 5. Departing from San Diego or LAX to Honolulu. Whichever is cheaper. Pricing about $651 RT nonstop from San Diego on Hawaiian Airlines. All the other lines are pretty similar in price. Trying to avoid Allegiant Air. Do you think that’s the cheapest we will get or will prices drop?

    1. Hi Valerie,

We concur about avoiding Allegiant. Quite expensive dates especially from LAX. Stick with SAN. Crap shoot on if it will improve but our gut call is no. Hope that helps.

      Aloha.

  7. I’ve been looking at fares from Chicago to HNL in early June. I’ve found first class at around $1700. Should I book now, or should I wait for the chance there will be a fare sale for my dates? Thanks.

    1. Hi Laura,

There are almost never any first class fare sales – just seasonal fluctuations. It is generally about $1500+. There are some dates that are a bit less, and so is the one-stop. June 1-8 is $1480 on United. But the nonstop is up to $600 higher. On June 8-16 and some other dates the nonstop is $1571 which is excellent.

      Aloha.

  8. Is there a particular time that is best to buy interisland flights (on Hawaiian Airlines) for late May island hopping between Oahu and Maui?

    1. Hi Dee,

Tricky. There could well be sales since Island Air is trying to resurrect itself. On the other hand, availability is often an issue on inter-island flights. You’ll have to use your own judgment on this one.

      Aloha.

  9. Our family of 5 adults and 2 kids planning to go to Oahu on 6/18-6/25 from Oak or SFO, which ever is cheaper, Should I bought now or will prices drop a bit.

    1. Hi Donna,

Saturdays. Those will be more expensive. Mid-$700’s. If you fly on Friday’s it is about $600. It might improve but again, Saturdays will be the more expensive days making it difficult to predict.

      Aloha.

  10. we had to cancel a trip last year and have a credit on american that we must use by april and looking for the best air from phl to kauai for our 50 anniversary when should we book ????????

    1. Hi Vince,

About $1,000 most days with a reasonable stopover. If you want a long stopover in Seattle, you can fly for less. $704. Not sure if these will improve.

      Aloha.

  11. Wanted to share this regarding flights from Houston, where we live. We ended up booking on Hawaiian Airlines for $466 per person R/T from San Diego to Maui in mid April. Found a flight to San Diego for $240 R/T on Southwest. Besides allowing us to spend a couple of days in San Diego, we saved more than $400 over the United flight from IAH>OGG which essentially paid for our lodging/rental car/meals in San Diego.

    1. Hi Frank,

Glad that worked out. Stopover (whey they are real stopovers) are great. When they are just for a change of planes however they can be problematic due to luggage and security issues.

      Aloha.

  12. I am looking to fly June 18 thru 27 with 5 adults…preferably first class out of Portland, Oregon. Buy now or would you think prices will increase soon??

    1. Hi Connie.

Running $1200 to $1350 for those dates. If you can play with dates a bit you might find an additional hundred or two in savings. We wouldn’t expect those to go down and availability could well be an issue.

      Aloha.

  13. Hello,

Couple of my friends and I are looking to come in the summer time. The only exception being my friend is into surfing, while we are all looking to explore hawaii and enjoy the nightlife. We initially were looking to come mid-to-end August but are reconsidering and looking for a better peak time to come. We will be flying out of JFK (NYC) and our destination was Waikiki. Any suggestions?

    Thank you,

    Andrew

    1. Hi Andrew,

End of August is a great time to come in terms of pricing and fewer crowds. Is surfing the issue? South shores will be pumping at that time.

      Aloha.

  14. Looking for flights to Oahu from MN in mid August for a family of 5. What is a fair price to pay for airline tickets? Tickets are currently about 1100 a person for decent flight times. Are there seat sales for this time of the year? Thanks.

  15. Hi,

I am planning a trip from San Diego to Oahu from April 18th to 21st then to Maui until the 24th. I see the plane tickets are about 200 one way. Should I wait for the ticket price to drop or does it not get cheaper than this?

I’m also trying to advance purchase hotel rooms for cheaper prices; should I wait to book the rooms as well?

    Thank you.

    1. Hi David,

That’s a fair price and might or might not improve. Be sure to get inter-island soon as availability can be an issue (unless you don’t mind flying very early or late). It might be wise to get a hotel booked ASAP. Then you can change that should something better appear.

      Aloha.

    1. Hi Danila,

Timing for air purchase is as already stated. Watch for prices in $600’s to $700’s. It might be good to get something booked in terms of accommodations that you can change later if desired.

      Aloha.

  16. Hi,
Looking for flight from Dalllas to Maui on May-21-2016 to May-28-2016.
I have been monitoring the “Hawaii Vacation Deals” but didn’t see the region listed. Is there another sale coming or should I buy the tickets now ?
    Thank you

    1. Hi ATV,

Dallas is currently $772 to $871 (with either stops or nonstop). Might improve by up to $150 or so. Unknown when or if that will happen, but would say it is likely.

      Aloha.

  17. We plan to visit Oahu in Oct. When is the best time to purchase our flight tickets? We are in Tampa, but thinking we could get to SanDiego for a couple days then over to Oahu. Or is it cheaper to fly direct from Tampa, Fl

    1. Hi Sandy,

San Diego probably will work out well if you want to go there anyway. It is just way to early, per what is already in the post. Spring to summer should yield the desired results.

      Aloha.

  18. My husband and i would like to visit Maui this would be our first time, and we are on a budget what would be the cheapest way to fly from Phoenix, AZ?

    1. Hi Desiree,

The post has pretty much all of our suggestions. Just come in the spring or fall (or in the next 50 days) and you’ll find good prices. You can expect to pay about $500RT per person.

      Aloha.

  19. We are coming to Kauai end of the month. We could not find cheap airfare from our southern state so we are driving to Okla City to fly out. Still couldnt find and cheap flights from OKC and besides that the cheapest we found takes us from OKC to MINNEAPOLIS, then San Fran, then Kauai. Seems way out of the way and expensive. Any help would be appreciated.

    1. Hi Colleen,

We removed your last name as you requested for privacy reasons. For the end of January it is running about $1,000 per person but early February that will drop to $653 on American with just one stop in LA. Hope that helps.

      Aloha.

  20. I’m looking to book a one travel flight to Hawaii for this summer vacation to visit some family. I’m currently located in Houston Tx and am not sure if the price is right due to never haven bought or looked up tickets for Hawaii before. I’m getting close to $750 rt for a 2 week stay. Should i wait and see if a better deal comes about or buy?

    1. Hi Esme,

You can see from the post what the high season summer dates are. If you’re travelling then the airfare is about $1,000 RT. It will drop by $200 or more starting in August.

      Aloha.

  21. Hello! We are looking for airfare from ORD to OGG on 6/22/16, then OGG to HNL on 6/25 and then back home from HNL to ORD on 7/2. Our schedule is pretty tight for those dates and we can’t move it up to the earlier part of June. I see around $1200-$1300 for that multi city itinerary. Is it wise to book like this or can you provide any further advice? Thanks!

    1. Hi Eric,

That isn’t a negotiable time period. In fact availability around then can become more of an issue than price. Especially for good connections or nonstop flights. Suggest buying now.

      Aloha.

  22. When ticket prices are low for trips TO Hawaii, are prices the same FROM Hawaii? I am looking to go round trip from Kona to Minneapolis.

    1. Hi Catherine,

There are many good fares from Australia to Hawaii. Unfortunately we do not follow those regularly. Suggest subscribing to Hawaiian Airlines and Jetstar updates.

      Aloha.

  23. I have been looking for tickets from SLC to LIH Kauai. I’ve seen them drop from 600-to 565 we are going in April around 13th to 18th a little flexible on dates but not by much. Should I wait where is the best place to find deals do airlines ever have promo codes for just flights.

  24. I’ve found tickets from kc to hawaii (kona) for 550s. I’ve seen lots of midwest but not a lot out of there ( we’re from springfield). Buy now or wait?

  25. My family and I want to plan a trip sometime in October, there will be 10 of us, I myself have been to Oahu about 10 times. My grandparents are coming and don’t really want the party or city atmosphere, but I have 2 teenagers and 2 under the age of 10. Which island would be the best, in your opinion, that would have stuff that all of us would enjoy? We’d also like to stay in a condo or a house rather than a hotel. Could you make any recommendations please.

    1. Moloka’i!!. No traffic lights, no traffic, mom and pops stores, lots of beautiful beaches on the east end side. No buildings over 2 stories high, no Mc Donalds or fast food places. No city lights at all, very very COUNTRY!. Amazing and beautiful. FYI the beaches along the west side of the island is dangerous, not good for snorkeling, kids or just swimming. East side beaches is perfect for the family. Enjoy!!

  26. Wife and I plan to go to Maui April 21-26, 2016. Tickets have come down from $600 to $400 within the last week. Should I keep waiting to see if prices can get lower or is this the best it’s going to get? Thanks.

      1. Hi Angie.

Those will be found on the airline websites directly. Beat of Hawaii independently tracks hundreds of sites daily to uncover hidden deals on Hawaii airfares. We have published over 2,100 articles.

        Aloha.

  27. My wife and I will be returning to Maui for our 10th wedding anniversary in later May (21-28, 2016). Wondering if we should get airline tickets now or wait a bit longer on the prices and is it better RT or separate one ways?

  28. I am trying to find a good deal on flights from Houston to Hawaii (Honolulu)in April. Do you know if any good deals or suggestions?

    1. Hi Monique,

Starting about 4/20 there are good fares from about $500. But the cheapest have very long layovers (on Alaska). For $573 it is a much better connection on American/Hawaiian.

      Aloha.

  29. Hi! We are a family of four adults traveling to Maui out of Seattle, WA. for a wedding in September 2016. What month would it be best for me to purchase my airline tickets for the best possible price. We already have a condo there.
    Thank you

  30. Hello,
My husband and I are planing on traveling from CA to Kona Oct 9-21st. When is the best time to buy? We were considering flying out of San Diego but are open to other spots. Thanks!

    1. Hi Heather,

Best advice we have on timing is already in the post. San Diego would be advantageous based on current environment.

      Aloha.

  31. Hi! My family of 3 wants to fly from LAX to Kauai from 6/12-6/19. Prices are currently $800 from LAX to LIH non stop. Do you think prices will drop?
    Appreciate any help.

  32. Myself and about 6 friends with 1 teenager is planning a trip to Oahu in November around Thanksgiving. The perspective dates are November 23-28, 16. Three will be traveling from Nashville, TN and four or five from Memphis, TN. When will be the best time to purchase tickets and the best city to fly from. HELP!!

    1. Hi Wanda,

With good connections that’s running about $1,100 from either airport. Suggest buying soon. Those won’t be dates for any fare sale.

      Aloha

  33. Hello!

My boyfriend and I are looking to visit Maui from January 14 – 21, 2017. The prices look so expensive! When would be the best time to book tickets???

    Thank you!!!

  34. Hi,

I’m needing to fly (2 adults and 2 kids) from San Diego to Maui from 6/4/16 thru 6/11/16. This is right on the cusp of the peak period. Right now prices on HA are ~$900 each round trip. Is there a chance of prices going down?

  35. Hi there!

I am going to visit a couple friends in Honolulu, I am coming from SFO. I’ve scoured through Kayak and other websites trying to find a ticket for $350 or less but that seems incredibly difficult. I want to go for a Thurs-Sunday stay during any weekend from Feb-June. Any tips on how i can find the cheapest possible ticket since my dates are so flexible?

    Thank you so much!

  36. Trying to get a deal to Oahu around April or May (flexible). We live in Pennsylvania nearby airports, Philadelphia, Newark, JFK. Just wondering when the best time and which airport. Also is it cheaper to fly to San francisco one way and stay with a friend and connect a flight to Hawaii from there… Any help would be appreciated! Thank you

    1. Hi Ryan,

New York airports will probably be cheapest. You need to wait until middle of April or after to travel for best pricing. Those spring prices aren’t available yet so check back.

      Aloha.
