Hi! My husband and I are traveling to Honolulu, Oahu from San Jose, Ca on September 28-Oct 5, at this time roundtrip tickets are around $458/Person, would you recommend booking now?
Thank you and I hope to hear from you.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Wendy.
SJC is one of the very most competitive markets. It would be better to wait. Potential savings is about $100.
Aloha.
Greg
We have an extended family trip to the island of Hawaii and I’ve been searching for airfare for a family of five. Dates are ~7/28 – ~8/5. Currently looking to travel out of Chicago. I’ve found fares at ~$1150. Given the timing and where we’re flying out of, not sure if I’ll find anything better. Love to hear your thoughts.
Thanks,
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Greg.
Sorry to say it probably won’t get better. More stops and longer duration can reduce minimally, but honest not enough to be worth it. Enjoy your vacation!
Aloha.
Samantha
This is amazing that you do this for everyone!! We are looking to fly to HNL from PHX June 4-11, 2016. Prices are about $650 with United. We would like to fly Hawaiin but see that June 11th makes the round trip airfare go up to $1300/pp. Is this because of the Hawaiian holiday? And do you think $650 is likely to drop soon. Thank you so, so much!!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Samantha.
Thanks for your nice words!
For your exact dates, the UAL price of $624 is compelling. It does take additional hours and a change of planes though to save the $200. Very small chance of any improvement, so suggest buying.
Aloha.

My husband and I have a trip booked for April 2 to 8….I have seen the tickets range from 1080 to 1200 from Atlanta…do you think there will be better deals between now and March?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Amy,
If you’re looking at the nonstop it probably will not come down. With stops, depending on connection time, from about $950 to Honolulu on United.
Aloha.
Denise
My husband and I are planning a 2 week trip to Maui Nov 4-16, 2016. We already have the condos but waiting to purchase airline tickets. We’re coming from Syracuse NY. I get alerts from many sites and I’ve read that it’s usually best to wait until about 3 months to get flights. My husband is a bit anxious. Right now, the lowest I’ve seen flights are about $850 each RT. I’m hoping for under $750. What’s your opinion?
Denise
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Denise,
Syracuse doesn’t see great prices in any event. Not sure you’ll see under $750 – more likely low $800’s. As for $850 fare, that is 2 stops and fair connection. With good connection fare jumps to over $1k. Best time to buy is already indicated in post.
Aloha.
Missy
Looking at $680 from Bozeman, Montana to Honolulu September 7th through the 14th. This is a terrible and expensive place to fly out of, so the question is do you think any rate fares and deals will affect us? It seems they rarely do. Unless it’s the flights from our layover in Seattle or San Francisco into Honolulu?
Mahalo!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Missy,
No deals as you note correctly, from Bozeman and surrounding airports. So high $500’s to $600’s is normal unfortunately.
Aloha.
Cynthia
Found a really low fare to HNL from LAX
May 20-25 on a carrier I’m not familiar with for a family member who has never flown except once to North California. What’s can you tell me about Allegiant Airlines? Is $350 the lowest farewe can expect for the dates my relative has chosen to travel. Please advise. Thank you, Cynthia
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Cynthia,
Allegiant has been very controversial in Hawaii (and to a degree elsewhere). You can search on our website for the many posts we’ve written about them and you can Google elsewhere. We can not recommend them.
Aloha.
Maryann
Hello !!
I’m addicted to your website !! I was wondering if $698.00 RT is a good price from Newark to Honolulu ? Leaving May 22 -June 2 2016 ? Also what is a good price from Pheonix to Honolulu RT on the same dates ?
Thank You ! Maryann 🙂
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Maryann,
Thanks for your great comment!
Not a bad price and might not improve. If it does, perhaps $50/less. $534 on the PHX flight. And that’s a price to buy at – they don’t get as many deals as NYC.
Aloha.
Jane
United and Delta are offering flights from St. Louis to Oahu for $599.00 currently. Any chance it will get any cheaper than this? Planning our trip for May 3-10.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Jane,
Always a chance but that’s a very good price and improvement isn’t likely.
Aloha.
Jane
Thanks so much! I really appreciate your help!
Letty
You mention for summer vacations not to wait to book them. We are looking at departing Los Angeles to Maui on August 15 or 16th. Would you recommend booking now or waiting? I’d love to see the prices drop but also don’t want to miss our opportunity.
Any guidance is appreciated.
Letty
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Letty,
Given your dates, it would be best to wait. Given the new competition and more flights coming, you “might” be in for a pleasant surprise of anything up to $200 less than currently offered.
Aloha.
Nicey
Hi,
Thanks so much for this website! My family and I going to Honolulu the dates of Oct 15-22 from Atlanta, GA/Raleigh, NC; however, flights are very high at the moment. When do you suggest we book and what are your thoughts on the best way to get there? For example, would it make sense to buy separate flights to the west coast and then book flights from say San Jose, CA to HI? I’ve looked over your site and it looks like west coast flights tend to be much cheaper! Also, are there any non stop flight options if we were to fly directly from Atlanta?
Any insight is much appreciated.
Thank you for your time!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Nicey,
If you wait you might save $150 to $200. Our best guidance on when to buy is already in post. Buying separate flights can be quite problematic due to issues associated with multiple bag check-ins, security checks, and the possibility of missed flights. Atlanta should work out best.
Aloha.

Hi,
My husband and myself along with our two boys are going to Hawaii July 13-23rd. We are flying our of Dallas going into Kauai first for four nights then going to Maui for the remainder of the trip. Airfare seems to be dropping a little right now. It has been steady around $1365 per person and today when I checked it was $1244 per person, which is the best I have seen. Not sure what to expect as far as the fare dropping anymore? Should we wait another week or so and see if it drops more? What should we expect for fares?
Thanks for your help!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Erica,
We see 1-stop via Delta today for $996 with very good connections. That’s about as good as you can hope for given your dates.
Aloha.
Erica
Thank you! I think that’s just round trip. When I’m figuring ours I’m doing multi-city and including the trip from Kauai to Maui and then leaving from Maui back to Dallas for the trip home. Do you think the $1244 is the best I can get?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Erica,
It’s easier for us to work with the flights from/to the mainland. Inter-island is extremely variable – from about $80 to $200 per flight, largely depending on time of day/day of week. Those should get nailed down asap. About $1,000 is the best you can expect for the mainland flights.
Doubtful that it will improve.
Aloha.
nessa
hello my names is nessa. i was wondering about any deals for honolulu from los angeles 7/29/16-8/09/16. thanks
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Neesa,
Currently in high $700’s which is to be expected. Because we’re about to have new flights announced, subscribe to our email updates and there may be some improvement. Can’t say just when but perhaps by May.
Aloha.
Jennifer
Hi, this information is very informative…thank you!
My family, 2 adults and 2 children (13 and 15), are trying to determine the best time to take a trip to Hawaii. To accommodate school calendars we are considering Spring Break 2016 (sometime between 3/22/16 and 4/7/2016), in June after school is out for the summer or before school begin in the fall (late August). We will be flying from Michigan, either Grand Rapids or Detroit but are open to other airports if the rates are better. Any suggestions on the best time for this family trip? I’ve done some research and it appears we are looking at about $1000 per ticket.
Thank you
Jennifer
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Jennifer,
Late August will be the best bet. You might get prices in the mid $700’s if you wait. Timing is indicated in post.
Aloha.
Neesha
Hello.THANKS for this useful site with all sorts of great information ! my family and I will be traveling to Kauai come June 11-17 from the Bay Area airports not sure which exactly ,still awaiting great flight deals .right now they are at $800 rt per person. Do you think the amount may go down ? Thanks in advance
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Neesha,
If you can come and go one day earlier, the price drops to $695 on Hawaiian Airlines or Alaska Airlines. Saturdays are almost always more expensive. Also if can come a bit later, June 16-22 for example, the price is $602 on Hawaiian (that’s a great price for summer).
Will prices go lower? Highly unlikely. Suggest buying now.
Hello! I’m from Pittsburgh PA. I have a 11 year old daughter. I’m not sure which resort of Hawaii is child friendly and what time of the year would be the cheapest. Please help
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Quay,
The cheapest time of year for your trip is already detailed in the post. There’s nothing more that we can add. All of Hawaii is child-friendly. If you want to research islands, resorts, activities and such, a great place to start is with the highly regarded online and in print guidebook series, Hawaii Revealed.
Aloha.
Bob
We wish to travel to Hawaii the last two weeks of August/Mid-week per your recommendations.
The price is currently $775/rt from Miami, FL. Should we expect the price to drop. For example if we wait til its 54-66 days prior to the travel dates? Thanks.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Bob,
There is no rule such as 54-66 days. It’s all up to the airlines and the supply/demand in the market. Right now the prices are mostly about $1,000 for your dates with a good connection (12 hours). If you want to spend 18-20 hours and have multiple stops, the price comes down to about $800. That should improve by waiting. Start checking in about May, although that could happen at any time. There is the very rare true fare sale from Miami, but that is unpredictable and hard to count on. A fare in the $700’s with a good connection should be achievable.
Aloha.
Zach
Thanks for the useful information here! For our honeymoon, my fiancee and I are planning on flying from Seattle to Kauai in late June – early July (something like ~Monday June 27 through Wednesday July 6, depending on best deals). Prices have been hovering in the mid $700 range for one- and two-stop flights for at least a month now (as well as a direct SEA-LIH flight via Alaska airlines for ~$800 which is quite tempting). Hawaiian Airlines is having sales right now for flights in May and early June… do you think it is worthwhile to wait a little longer to try and land a sale price for late June / early July flights or should I just jump on tickets now seeing as it is summer travel and all?
Thank you so much!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Zach,
There is no point in waiting as there will not be fare sales from Seattle in late June or July. Those prices are very fare for that season. Availability could become an issue if you wait as there is very high demand for those dates.
Aloha.
John
Hello,
We are planning a visit to the Big Island the last week of May 2016. With the exception of Alaska Air, fares from Chicago to KOA are hovering $960-$1000 for one-stop flights with overall durations of about 12-14 hours. We are looking at a mid-week travel departure and weekend return. I’m ready to strike on fares at $860 or less. Is it realistic to wait for a price drop or should we book now?
sue
Kinda have a crazy Question. What do you think is a better way to book a combo trip to Hawaii from Seattle. Right now Ive got a condo in Kona for one week( July 10 -17 2016), but would like to go to Honolulu for a few days before or after. We would need Air, hotel, car for Honolulu and Car only for Kona. Should I fly in and out of Honolulu and do a package and do seperate flights to Kona or make a Multi City route. What would be cheaper? looking at Airfare. Should I book soon?
Not sure where to begin.
This web site is so cool. Great information.
Thank you
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Sue,
First, yes we suggest you book ASAP due to limited summer availability in relation to demand. It would probably work better to fly directly into Kona and then out of Honolulu. That will definitely save you a half-day of your vacation since there’s one less flight. Costs should be comparable or even better doing it that way too. If you’re asking about packages, it should be quite easy to try pricing it both ways. Hope that helps and let us know if you have further questions.
Aloha.
Teresa
Sue,
Those are great recommendations in terms of the time saved and comparable pricing. We booked a multi-island itinerary last summer, flying from the west coast directly to the Big Island, then mid-week to Kauai, spending our last night on Oahu. We flew Hawaiian for all except that we took a United non-stop home to save time and avoid connections. Due to the nature of our trip, we had to start on the Big Island and end on Oahu, but unless there’s a particular Oahu festival/event that you want to attend before your condo reservation, I agree with flying directly to Kona first.
Aloha and mahalo to Beat of Hawaii!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi John,
There are two-stops on Delta with good connections for low $800’s (5/22-5/29).
Hard to say if it will improve. Chicago sees few Hawaii deals.
Aloha.
John
Thank you for the quick response. We love your website and frequently forward your posts to other people. Especially loved your post about Southwest a while back. Keep up the good work!
Mahalo,

Beat of Hawaii
Thank you John!
Have a great trip.

My husband and I are planning to fly from San Jose,CA to Honolulu from Sep 28 to Oct 4, should we get the flight tickets now or should we wait? What would be a reasonable ticket price from SJC to HNL?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Wendy,
Probably best to wait for possible reduction to $400 or less.
Aloha.
ella
My family is flying to Hawaii in Sept (mid sept)..LAX to Maui. Do you anticipate flights going lower than the recent Virgin America deal for $169 each way? I missed that opportunity and refuse to purchase anything lower than the lowest deal I saw :(. Please enlighten me! Also, what month do you think is the best time I can expect these lower rates?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Ella,
Lower than $169 – highly doubtful. Best guidance on timing is already in the post.
Aloha.
Dory Willer
Spring 2014 I purchased an unbelievable OAK to HNL on Alaska for $297 roundtrip — midweek travel days. What do you feel will be the best low roundtrip fare this Spring (after Easter/Spring Break) from Oakland (or SFO/SJE)
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Dory,
Stand by for today’s update on these.
Aloha.
Dory Willer
Today’s update fares were disappointing…still running $418+ from the three SFO Area Airports into HNL which is not on the great side for an early May trip. Guess I’ll just sit tight and see what March brings — surely during low shoulder season (end of April first of May) those airlines will need to discount to pack the planes – one would hope!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Dory,
HNL isn’t quite as competitive as OGG. It may still improve sporadically but $400 is still a great price to fly to Hawaii.
I am traveling to Hawaii June 11-16 from Jackson, MS and wanted to know if you deal with a lot of deals out of Jackson, MS? I’m trying to decide the best time to purchase tickets.
Thanks,
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Sonia,
Frankly there is no market between Jackson and Hawaii, so deals per se, don’t exist. Just some seasonal fluctuations. Good connections are running about $1300 (11 hours) and bad connections are running about $1000 (20 hours).
Doubtful that these will improve. There are $800 fares out of Dallas around your dates, but that is quite a distance from Jackson.
Aloha.
Ann-Marie
Sonia,
One option might be to find a cheap fare on a discount airline to the West Coast cities that are running sales on flights to Hawaii, then book a flight to Hawaii from there on another airline. It is a little more work on your end, but could save you some money.
Venessa
My husband and I are traveling to Kauai April 23-27 from SLC for our honeynoon. Flights were recently $560 and recently jumped to $650.
Should we buy now or do you think they will go back down?
Vada Lauchlan
My mom and I are looking to book a trip the week of May 2016 the week before Memorial Day so it is cheaper. We are traveling from San Francisco to Maui. Last week prices were about $400 round trip. This week they went up to $600. Should we book now or do you think prices will go down again?
Jennie V.
We are planning a big family vacation (18 of us)flying to HNL from LAX 7/2 – 7/9/16. We’ve never traveled on Saturdays before and I hadn’t even considered the holiday when booking our accommodations. Do you think flights might remain steady for the next month and a half so everyone can finish saving up or do you think prices will keep inching up every couple of weeks?
Robbie
I am looking at booking a flight to Maui in January or February 2017. Do you have any advice as to when I should book the airfare? Thanks so much!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Robbie,
Given the way things are looking at present, we’d suggest holding until perhaps this fall.
Aloha.
Stuart
Hi there
I’m looking to fly to Honolulu from Nyc on May 30 returning June 6 and was wondering if a round trip price of $678 per person was a good price or should I hold on in the chance it may drop lower.
I would be very grateful of your advice and help.
Thank you
Stuart
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Stuart,
Two answers. Yes, that is really a good price. And yes, there is a possibility of it getting slightly better. Best hope is probably for a $100 drop. Not sure it will happen but we’ll be seeing spring deals coming out at any point now.
Aloha.
Blake
Aloha,
Is there a good chance of sub-$500 from Houston for the last week of September or first week of October?
Cheers.
Kim
Wow, thanks so much for considering my question!!! What a great service! My husband and I are considering a trip to Kauai or Maui in early December. We have never been to Hawaii, we don’t like crowds, prefer scenery & hiking. We leave from NWA (northwest AR) or Tulsa or could drive to Dallas if the deal is worth it. I read your reply that deals to Kauai won’t exist in 2016, so would we be better off flying to Maui & enjoying some sites there and then get to Kauai on a boat or another flight? Also, when is the best time to book? Thanks for any help!!!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Kim,
Maui is often but not always cheaper for flights. From your area low $800’s (to Maui) is about the best you can hope form. At present your dates are priced in the $900’s. So there’s some value in waiting until perhaps summer to check.
Inter-island is via flight only and it is quite expensive. Best to book that early due to limited availability.
Aloha.
Dan
Hello all. Great discussion here. I live in the Seattle area and we are planning to go to Oahu for a week over the Christmas holiday (probably 22-30 Dec 2016). What are the best times to buy those plane tickets? It looks like the prices really fluctuate and right now the cheapest are around $720 each ($820 or more to go direct). Should I wait until the summer to look for deals? Thanks in advance! Mahalo
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Dan,
There aren’t deals for your travel dates and $720 is quite fair actually. It is best to purchase ASAP as availability is a real issue.
Aloha.
Jill
We are looking for flights for our family of 5 to Maui during the Christmas holiday from Detroit. When would be the best time to book? Also, are we better booking at once or trying to piece together flights? We heard it is better to fly to the west coast, stay overnight and then fly to the island.
Paige
My husband and I just put a deposit down on lodging on the Big Island, nearer the Kona airport! It is 5 nights, six days. We considered flying first into Honolulu and doing a couple of nights there first! I assume we would then take an island hopper over to Hawaii. That means I think the best thing would be to fly into Honolulu and fly out of Kona! 2 questions, 1 of which you have probably already answered. Dates are flexible but looks like you agree with our fall thinking. October or November. My second question is airfare and not leaving from the same airport! We are in Birmingham, Alabama! What would you recommend to get the best airfare?
We are flying from Portland, OR to Kauai July 2-9 2016. Tickets have been between 792.00 to 802.00 for several months. Will they be getting lower? Do you think there is a likelihood that any of the airlines will have a promotional rate before then?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Tina,
Not likely to improve for your peak of summer dates.
Aloha.
Jessica
Hello!
My boyfriend and I are planning to travel to Maui about the 3rd week of August 2016 and then to Oahu for the 4th week. We are flying from Rhode Island and found a one way to Maui for $388. It seems really early to book for us since we are usually so last minute but this price seems to be too good to be true since we are so far away! The flight home from Honolulu was about $478 making the grand total about $866. Do you think this is a good deal or should we wait? Any advice is greatly appreciated. Mahalo!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Jessica,
Flying from Providence or Boston. Boston has good fares in $600’s to Maui on Virgin. Otherwise that isn’t a bad price. There’d be no harm in waiting in terms of availability and pricing, but understandably it is sometimes better to just lock things in.
Aloha.
Ken
I need to use a TCVA coupon on United prior to April 01, 2016 for a DEN-OGG trip from 18MAY-23MAY for my wife and myself. Flights now seem a bit expensive, should I wait a few weeks more prior to booking? Thanks.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Ken,
Looks like a some possibility for prices to drop back to about $700. But not sure because UAL is remaining quite pricey on this route. Tough call.
Aloha.
Ken
Thanks for your reply. Would a better option to fly from DEN to some west coast city on UAL aND then fly a different carrier to OGG? I appreciate your time.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Ken,
When we price that that type of connection it virtually never turns out to be worthwhile. Especially if you consider the issues with multiple tickets, bags, security. It might still improve for your dates.
Aloha.
Travis
Hello
My fiance, daughter and I are going to Honolulu from May 14-21. We are leaving from LAX and I have seen prices from $450 to over $650 today on Hawaiian. We have miles to throw at the flights but do you see any downward movement back to the $400 range in the near term or should we bit the bullet now and kick ourselves for not getting the fares in the $400’s?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Travis,
Since Virgin America’s service begins on May 15, there’s the possibility of a price reduction starting that day. Not the 14th. So return date could have better pricing if you wait. On the other hand you’re flying Saturdays and those are the least likely to get discounted. Tough call. Think you might want to buy now and start kicking.
Aloha.
Antony C
Hello,
We’d like to go to Maui for our anniversary in July. The dates we picked were July 28th- Aug 4th. Looking online and it’s about $3,100 for flight, hotel and rental. Would it be better to push the trip out a couple of weeks to a better deal?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Antony.
Your IP address says you’re flying from Dallas. For your dates the airfare is about $1,000. If you wait until August 18 to depart, airfare can be as low as $629 on Virgin America. So you’re talking about a $400 per person difference. Hope that helps.
Aloha.
Donna
Hi,
A friend and I have hotel accommodations on Oahu Nov 11-18, 2016 to celebrate my birthday. When is a good time to purchase reasonably priced airline tickets for the vacation?
Donna
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Donna,
You didn’t say but you IP address indicates Maryland as your location. November 18 return will be expensive due to Thanksgiving. Price could come down to $700’s except for that and when to buy is already listed in post.
Aloha.
Patti
My family and I (five people) are traveling to the big island on July 31st and then to Kauai on August 7th-14th of this year. I’m looking for the best way to travel there and what be most cost effective. Hawaii airlines is priced at s out 1300. That include singer island travel. What do you think ?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Patti,
It appears you’re flying from NYC. Best price is $1,093 not including inter-island flight which is about the same as you are finding. Doubtful that will improve for your dates, but it is possible given that the return is outside of peak season. Tough call – might try waiting (though honestly it could backfire).
Aloha.
Amy
In mid July 2016, we are planning a family vacation for 10 people from Seattle.
we are traveling to Kauai for a week and then to Oahu for a week. Airfare with inter-island flights are showing at $860. Should we wait for 3 months out or buy now?
Thanks!
Amy
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Amy,
You may be in luck. With 10 people travelling together, we suggest you contact the group sales department of Hawaiian Airlines, Alaska Airlines and Delta Airlines and see what they can offer you. Please let us know how it works out.
Aloha.
Amy
It’s actually 9 because we have a 1 year old. Just looking for advice on airfare from SEA to Kauai and then to Oahu in mid-July 2016.
Should we wait till mid-April or buy now.
Thank you much!
Amy
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Amy,
Still contact the group sales desks as suggested. Otherwise, we don’t expect fares to improve on those routes during the peak of summer. About $700.
Aloha.

Hi! My husband and I are traveling to Honolulu, Oahu from San Jose, Ca on September 28-Oct 5, at this time roundtrip tickets are around $458/Person, would you recommend booking now?
Thank you and I hope to hear from you.
Hi Wendy.
SJC is one of the very most competitive markets. It would be better to wait. Potential savings is about $100.
Aloha.
Thanks,
Hi Greg.
Sorry to say it probably won’t get better. More stops and longer duration can reduce minimally, but honest not enough to be worth it. Enjoy your vacation!

Hi Amy,
If you’re looking at the nonstop it probably will not come down. With stops, depending on connection time, from about $950 to Honolulu on United.
Aloha.
My husband and I are planning a 2 week trip to Maui Nov 4-16, 2016. We already have the condos but waiting to purchase airline tickets. We’re coming from Syracuse NY. Hi Denise,
Syracuse doesn’t see great prices in any event. Not sure you’ll see under $750 – more likely low $800’s. As for $850 fare, that is 2 stops and fair connection. With good connection fare jumps to over $1k. Best time to buy is already indicated in post.

Hi Missy,
No deals as you note correctly, from Bozeman and surrounding airports. So high $500’s to $600’s is normal unfortunately.

I’m addicted to your website !! I was wondering if $698.00 RT is a good price from Newark to Honolulu ? Leaving May 22 -June 2 2016 ? Also what is a good price from Pheonix to Honolulu RT on the same dates ?
Thank You ! Maryann 🙂
Hi Maryann,
Thanks for your great comment!
Not a bad price and might not improve. If it does, perhaps $50/less. $534 on the PHX flight. And that’s a price to buy at – they don’t get as many deals as NYC.
Aloha.
United and Delta are offering flights from St. Louis to Oahu for $599.00 currently. Any chance it will get any cheaper than this? Planning our trip for May 3-10.
Hi Jane,
Always a chance but that’s a very good price and improvement isn’t likely.
Aloha.
Thanks so much! I really appreciate your help!
You mention for summer vacations not to wait to book them. We are looking at departing Los Angeles to Maui on August 15 or 16th. Would you recommend booking now or waiting? I’d love to see the prices drop but also don’t want to miss our opportunity.
Any guidance is appreciated.
Letty
Hi Letty,
Given your dates, it would be best to wait. Given the new competition and more flights coming, you “might” be in for a pleasant surprise of anything up to $200 less than currently offered.
Aloha.
Hi,
Thanks so much for this website!
Hi Nicey,
If you wait you might save $150 to $200.
Hi Erica,
We see 1-stop via Delta today for $996 with very good connections. That’s about as good as you can hope for given your dates.
Aloha.
Thank you! I think that’s just round trip. When I’m figuring ours I’m doing multi-city and including the trip from Kauai to Maui and then leaving from Maui back to Dallas for the trip home. Do you think the $1244 is the best I can get?
Hi Erica,
It’s easier for us to work with the flights from/to the mainland. Inter-island is extremely variable – from about $80 to $200 per flight, largely depending on time of day/day of week. Those should get nailed down asap. About $1,000 is the best you can expect for the mainland flights.
Doubtful that it will improve.
Aloha.
hello my names is nessa. i was wondering about any deals for honolulu from los angeles 7/29/16-8/09/16. thanks
Hi Neesa,
Currently in high $700’s which is to be expected. Because we’re about to have new flights announced, subscribe to our email updates and there may be some improvement. Can’t say just when but perhaps by May.
Aloha.
Thank you
Jennifer
Hi Jennifer,
Late August will be the best bet. You might get prices in the mid $700’s if you wait. Timing is indicated in post.
Aloha.
Hi Neesha,
If you can come and go one day earlier, the price drops to $695 on Hawaiian Airlines or Alaska Airlines. Saturdays are almost always more expensive. Also if can come a bit later, June 16-22 for example, the price is $602 on Hawaiian (that’s a great price for summer).
Will prices go lower? Highly unlikely. Suggest buying now.
Aloha.
Hello! I’m from Pittsburgh PA. I have a 11 year old daughter. I’m not sure which resort of Hawaii is child friendly and what time of the year would be the cheapest. Please help
Hi Quay,
The cheapest time of year for your trip is already detailed in the post. There’s nothing more that we can add. All of Hawaii is child-friendly. If you want to research islands, resorts, activities and such, a great place to start is with the highly regarded online and in print guidebook series, Hawaii Revealed.
Aloha.
We wish to travel to Hawaii the last two weeks of August/Mid-week per your recommendations.
The price is currently $775/rt from Miami, FL. Should we expect the price to drop. For example if we wait til its 54-66 days prior to the travel dates? Thanks.
Hi Bob,
There is no rule such as 54-66 days.
Aloha.
Hi Zach,
There is no point in waiting as there will not be fare sales from Seattle in late June or July. Those prices are very fare for that season. Availability could become an issue if you wait as there is very high demand for those dates.
Aloha.
Hello,
We are planning a visit to the Big Island the last week of May 2016.
Kinda have a crazy Question. What do you think is a better way to book a combo trip to Hawaii from Seattle. Right now Ive got a condo in Kona for one week( July 10 -17 2016), but would like to go to Honolulu for a few days before or after. We would need Air, hotel, car for Honolulu and Car only for Kona. Should I fly in and out of Honolulu and do a package and do seperate flights to Kona or make a Multi City route. What would be cheaper? looking at Airfare. Should I book soon?
Not sure where to begin.
This web site is so cool. Great information.
Thank you
Hi Sue,
First, yes we suggest you book ASAP due to limited summer availability in relation to demand.
Aloha.
Sue,
Those are great recommendations in terms of the time saved and comparable pricing.
Hi John,
There are two-stops on Delta with good connections for low $800’s (5/22-5/29).
Hard to say if it will improve. Chicago sees few Hawaii deals.
Aloha.
Thank you for the quick response. We love your website and frequently forward your posts to other people. Especially loved your post about Southwest a while back. Keep up the good work!
Mahalo,
John
Thank you John!
Have a great trip.
Aloha.
My husband and I are planning to fly from San Jose,CA to Honolulu from Sep 28 to Oct 4, should we get the flight tickets now or should we wait? What would be a reasonable ticket price from SJC to HNL?
Hi Wendy,
Probably best to wait for possible reduction to $400 or less.
Aloha.
Hi Ella,
Lower than $169 – highly doubtful. Best guidance on timing is already in the post.
Aloha.
Spring 2014 I purchased an unbelievable OAK to HNL on Alaska for $297 roundtrip — midweek travel days. What do you feel will be the best low roundtrip fare this Spring (after Easter/Spring Break) from Oakland (or SFO/SJE)
Hi Dory,
Stand by for today’s update on these.
Aloha.
Hi Dory,
HNL isn’t quite as competitive as OGG. It may still improve sporadically but $400 is still a great price to fly to Hawaii.
Aloha.
Hello-
I am traveling to Hawaii June 11-16 from Jackson, MS and wanted to know if you deal with a lot of deals out of Jackson, MS? I’m trying to decide the best time to purchase tickets.
Thanks,
Hi Sonia,
Frankly there is no market between Jackson and Hawaii, so deals per se, don’t exist. Just some seasonal fluctuations. Good connections are running about $1300 (11 hours) and bad connections are running about $1000 (20 hours).
Doubtful that these will improve. There are $800 fares out of Dallas around your dates, but that is quite a distance from Jackson.
Aloha.
Sonia,
One option might be to find a cheap fare on a discount airline to the West Coast cities that are running sales on flights to Hawaii, then book a flight to Hawaii from there on another airline. It is a little more work on your end, but could save you some money.
My husband and I are traveling to Kauai April 23-27 from SLC for our honeynoon. Flights were recently $560 and recently jumped to $650.
Should we buy now or do you think they will go back down?
My mom and I are looking to book a trip the week of May 2016 the week before Memorial Day so it is cheaper. We are traveling from San Francisco to Maui. Last week prices were about $400 round trip. This week they went up to $600. Should we book now or do you think prices will go down again?
We are planning a big family vacation (18 of us)flying to HNL from LAX 7/2 – 7/9/16. We’ve never traveled on Saturdays before and I hadn’t even considered the holiday when booking our accommodations. Do you think flights might remain steady for the next month and a half so everyone can finish saving up or do you think prices will keep inching up every couple of weeks?
I am looking at booking a flight to Maui in January or February 2017. Do you have any advice as to when I should book the airfare? Thanks so much!
Hi Robbie,
Given the way things are looking at present, we’d suggest holding until perhaps this fall.
Aloha.
Hi there
I’m looking to fly to Honolulu from Nyc on May 30 returning June 6 and was wondering if a round trip price of $678 per person was a good price or should I hold on in the chance it may drop lower.
I would be very grateful of your advice and help.
Thank you
Stuart
Hi Stuart,
Two answers. Yes, that is really a good price. And yes, there is a possibility of it getting slightly better. Best hope is probably for a $100 drop. Not sure it will happen but we’ll be seeing spring deals coming out at any point now.
Aloha.
Aloha,
Is there a good chance of sub-$500 from Houston for the last week of September or first week of October?
Cheers.
Hi Kim,
Maui is often but not always cheaper for flights. From your area low $800’s (to Maui) is about the best you can hope form. At present your dates are priced in the $900’s. So there’s some value in waiting until perhaps summer to check.
Inter-island is via flight only and it is quite expensive. Best to book that early due to limited availability.
Aloha.
Mahalo
Hi Dan,
There aren’t deals for your travel dates and $720 is quite fair actually. It is best to purchase ASAP as availability is a real issue.
Aloha.
We are looking for flights for our family of 5 to Maui during the Christmas holiday from Detroit. When would be the best time to book? Also, are we better booking at once or trying to piece together flights? We heard it is better to fly to the west coast, stay overnight and then fly to the island.
Hi Tina,
Not likely to improve for your peak of summer dates.
Aloha.
Mahalo!
Hi Jessica,
Flying from Providence or Boston. Boston has good fares in $600’s to Maui on Virgin. Otherwise that isn’t a bad price. There’d be no harm in waiting in terms of availability and pricing, but understandably it is sometimes better to just lock things in.
Aloha.
I need to use a TCVA coupon on United prior to April 01, 2016 for a DEN-OGG trip from 18MAY-23MAY for my wife and myself. Flights now seem a bit expensive, should I wait a few weeks more prior to booking? Thanks.
Hi Ken,
Looks like a some possibility for prices to drop back to about $700. But not sure because UAL is remaining quite pricey on this route. Tough call.
Aloha.
Thanks for your reply. Would a better option to fly from DEN to some west coast city on UAL aND then fly a different carrier to OGG? I appreciate your time.
Hi Ken,
When we price that that type of connection it virtually never turns out to be worthwhile. Especially if you consider the issues with multiple tickets, bags, security. It might still improve for your dates.
Aloha.
Hi Travis,
Since Virgin America’s service begins on May 15, there’s the possibility of a price reduction starting that day. Not the 14th. So return date could have better pricing if you wait. On the other hand you’re flying Saturdays and those are the least likely to get discounted. Tough call. Think you might want to buy now and start kicking.
Aloha.
Hello,
We’d like to go to Maui for our anniversary in July. The dates we picked were July 28th- Aug 4th. Looking online and it’s about $3,100 for flight, hotel and rental. Would it be better to push the trip out a couple of weeks to a better deal?
Hi Antony.
Your IP address says you’re flying from Dallas. For your dates the airfare is about $1,000. If you wait until August 18 to depart, airfare can be as low as $629 on Virgin America. So you’re talking about a $400 per person difference. Hope that helps.
Aloha.
Hi,
A friend and I have hotel accommodations on Oahu Nov 11-18, 2016 to celebrate my birthday. When is a good time to purchase reasonably priced airline tickets for the vacation?
Donna
Hi Donna,
You didn’t say but you IP address indicates Maryland as your location. November 18 return will be expensive due to Thanksgiving. Price could come down to $700’s except for that and when to buy is already listed in post.
Aloha.
My family and I (five people) are traveling to the big island on July 31st and then to Kauai on August 7th-14th of this year. I’m looking for the best way to travel there and what be most cost effective. Hawaii airlines is priced at s out 1300. That include singer island travel. What do you think ?
Hi Patti,
It appears you’re flying from NYC. Best price is $1,093 not including inter-island flight which is about the same as you are finding. Doubtful that will improve for your dates, but it is possible given that the return is outside of peak season. Tough call – might try waiting (though honestly it could backfire).
Aloha.
In mid July 2016, we are planning a family vacation for 10 people from Seattle.
we are traveling to Kauai for a week and then to Oahu for a week. Airfare with inter-island flights are showing at $860. Should we wait for 3 months out or buy now?
Thanks!
Amy
Hi Amy,
You may be in luck. With 10 people travelling together, we suggest you contact the group sales department of Hawaiian Airlines, Alaska Airlines and Delta Airlines and see what they can offer you. Please let us know how it works out.
Aloha.
It’s actually 9 because we have a 1 year old. Just looking for advice on airfare from SEA to Kauai and then to Oahu in mid-July 2016.
Should we wait till mid-April or buy now.
Thank you much!
Amy
Hi Amy,
Still contact the group sales desks as suggested. Otherwise, we don’t expect fares to improve on those routes during the peak of summer. About $700.
Aloha.
