Hello!
We’re planning a trip to Honolulu Hawaii from LA next March 2018. It’s our first time flying! We’re very excited but nervous at the same time. I’m hoping you can give us some advise. I read all the other comments, I’d like to thank you in advance for taking your time to reply.
We’re two adults, a 8yr, & 1 yr old.
I have absolutely zero experience booking.
Do you recommend buying the bundle with hotel included or separately? When should I buy my tickets? Also, should I book online or through an agency? What’s the weather like by the end of MArch?
Thanks a bunch,
Brenda
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Brenda.
Your in for a great time! Having said that, we’ll start talking about 2018 flights late in summer or fall, as the airlines release better fares and the new routes. There is not going to be any financial difference in booking separately or as a package. So if you like the convenience of a package, that’s great. Otherwise, suggest booking independently – car, air and accommodation.
It is hard to predict weather wherever you are. But there’s never a bad time of year to come to Hawaii – March included. Generally, nice weather with about 80 degree days and 60’s at night should prevail.
Aloha.

My husband and I plan to get married in Kauai the first week of June next year. When is the latest that I should book everything from flight and hotel before prices increase?

Hello: I am planning my first trip to Hawaii in 2018. Flexible to go April,May or October. Which is best: price, weather? Thank you so much!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Dolores.
Any of those periods should offer good prices and weather.
Aloha.

Aloha! We are repeat travelers to beautiful Hawaii. This year we plan to travel from Omaha to Lihue mid-late December and spend Christmas/30th Anniversary/New Years there. When is a good time to start expecting airfare to drop?
Mahalo!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Tina.
For travel during that highest priced period, it won’t make a difference when you buy and could actually get worse by waiting. You’re probably looking at $1,100-$1,200.
Aloha.
Tina
Bummer, they are currently at about $1,400 a ticket. Mahalo!

Hi there!
I am planning on making my first trip to Hawaii (probably the island of Honolulu) for fall 2017.
I heard September, October and November is a great time to go (cheaper airfare, less busy..etc), is this true?
I am of course looking for a cheaper way of travelling, looking for anywhere from 4-8 days there. I don’t want to do all-inclusive or book a room at big box hotel.
So I was thinking of booking through Air BnB, on the north side of Honolulu (less tourists?) Any other suggestions?
I live in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada. I can fly out of Ottawa, Montreal or Toronto, cheapest I have seen was $550 CAD dollars return for one ticket, which I think is pretty cheap.
Dustin
I too am trying to fly to Hawaii in the fall (Oct) because it’s off season but someone hasn’t told the airlines that yet. For the last 2 months I’ve been watching a non stop from LAX to OGG has been around $750 and PHX (where I’m from) has been $1,150 on Hawaiian.
Today’s new rates come out and LAX is $840 and PHX is now $1,311. $1300 is great if I’m getting 2 RT fares not one, what is going on that they say to wait until fares come down as we’re only 2.5 months away and we refuse to fly UA.

Hello,
We are planning a trip to HNL last week of May 2018 from Atlanta. Have 60,000 FF miles from Delta to help. Any suggestions on when to book tickets and the cheapest options? What are your thoughts on trying to fly to LAX, spend night, then fly on to HNL?
Ardith
Aloha,
My family and I total of 6 over 18 are planning on going to Honolulu from San Francisco over spring break when the kids are not in college. Week before Easter. I know it’s high season during this time. Right now cheapest rate is 790.00. Should we book now or do you think prices may decrease a little bit?
Thank you
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Ardith.
Spring break is hard to call. The most popular (thus most expensive) dates tend to shift as it gets closer. That might work in your favor or but more likely not, should you decide to wait. Among the most popular dates, that price is quite good, so you might consider buying now. Hope that helps.
Aloha.

Hello, I am planning a trip to Hawaii in late August for a week. Our choice of island is Kauia since me and my son love the outdoors and hiking. When is the best time to buy airline tickets, book a hotel reservation or buy a package deal? This will be my first time going to Hawaii and I am super excited! I love your website and thank you for all the wonderful posts:) More power to you!
We are looking at returning to Kauai in mid December. We went the same time last year, but prices have increased significantly since our last trip. Last year we booked our trip at the end of June. I followed the rates for the next several weeks, and they did not change much from our booking price. So, my question is, would now be the right time or will rates drop any further if we wait? We are flying from Salt Lake to Kauai.
Mahalo!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Doug.
There are $536 round trip on Delta many even most days through Dec 12 departures. Many returns also. That’s as good as you can expect to find. Suggest buying now.
Aloha.
Hailey
Hello!
I have been planning a trip to go to Hawaii to see a friend in November. I just found a round trip ticket for $630 from Denver to Honolulu with a short stop in San Fran each way. I was wondering if this is a good price for that time, I haven’t had much luck with finding out what is and isn’t a good deal from Denver to Hawaii so your feed back would be much appreciated!
Thank you! (:
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Hailey.
Fair price. Not sure it will improve by waiting. Sales from Denver aren’t common at this time.
Aloha.
Tonya
Hello
I love your website so much information. I am going Feb 6th and flying out of BWI and i am currently finding prices of $736. Should i wait any or go ahead and buy, i just don’t what kind of prices i should be looking for.
thanks for your input.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Tonya.
Anything about $700 with good connections is an excellent price for that route. Wouldn’t wait.
Aloha.

Hi,
We always appreciate the advice at Beat of Hawaii in helping plan our trips to Maui. We’re planning to return to Maui somewhere between March – May 2018. When during that time (from the west coast) would we find the lowest airfares on Hawaiian Airlines? We have previously flown out of San Diego and Oakland, but now have family in Seattle, which would enable us to avoid hotel costs – we live in Houston and typically stay overnight in our departure city to break up the trip.
Mahalo and Happy July 4th!!!
Frank
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Frank.
Next year is up for grabs due to all of the airline changes due to start early in the year. For your off season travel wait until new flights get announced which should result is rather wide-spread fare sales to the islands.
Aloha.
Shelly
We are planning vacation to KOA then OGG in October from NYC. We can use miles to get to LAX, but finding $687 as lowest fare for the second leg on American. Do you think that will drop?
Desiree
My family and i are planning on flying out to Hawaii October 18-25, when do you think the best time would be for us to purchase tickets? I have heard prices drop last week of August. Is that cutting it too close?
Thanks
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Desiree.
What you’ve heard isn’t correct. Fall price changes could occur at any point from now through fall. Keep a lookout. There is no harm in waiting until near the end since availability won’t be an issue.
Aloha.
Becky
Hi!! I am planning on traveling around Easter in 2018 from the Bay Area (Oakland, SFO, etc.). Right now the prices are really high do you think they will go down at all being that it is around spring break and a holiday?
Carolyn
We are looking to travel around the same time, but from the east coast. Mon-Mon (3/26-4/2) or Tues-Tues (3/27-4/3) flights look lowest right now, and some 4th of July sales rending tomorrow.

Hi, if I’m looking to have my wedding date set for October 2018, when do you think would be the best time for me to purchase tickets?
Robert R
I’m wanting to travel to Hawaii in January of 2018. I’m proposing to my fiance and I’m hoping she says yes!
Ann
We are planning a wedding for June 2018. Is early part of June a lot better for airfares from the mainland? Although we aren’t keen on it, would Memorial day weekend wedding save us on airfares? We would fly out of ABQ, and have family in South Carolina, Southern California, Boston, and Austin, TX that we want to be there. Mahalo!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Ann.
Generally speaking, completing your trip by the first week in June, say June 7, will save 35+% on airfare from all locations. Shopping for that will start this fall and beyond. Let us know how your planning goes.
Aloha.

We are planning Feb to early May 18 trip to HNL, then KOA and then OGG. We from Fl.specifically Tampa / Orlando what airline do you recommend also from Philly. We know inter Island is HA we traveled many many time and have used UA, Delta and AA. We are looking when is a good time to Buy??
Thank you
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Rich.
$747 with good connections from TPA to HNL and returning from OGG on American. Good price. Not likely it will improve at all by waiting. From Philadelphia, about $1,000 with good connection on United or Americanand that has potential to improve by up to $200 – perhaps later in summer or fall.
Aloha.
Aloha.

Hi!
You are very knowledgeable so I was wondering if I could please get your advice. My family and I are planning on going to Oahu from either LAX or San Diego. We are looking to leave on July 31 until August 9, but will be flying with Hawaiian airlines. Ticket prices seem really high at $780. Do you think I should wait a little or go ahead and buy tickets at that price? Thank you in advance!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Angelica.
Your dates are challenging to predict inasmuch as they are at the end of the high season. If summer demand remains strong they may stay as they are and if not, they could come down.
Aloha.
Elle
We live in the Inland Empire area and none of the nearest airport ( Ontario, Palm Spring, or Orange County ) has non stop flight to Maui. Only LAX has nonstop flights to Maui. We are looking at Monday 2/26/2018 departure and return Saturday 3/3/2018. The dates can flex 1 day or so. The fares around $671 per person. Should we book now or wait awhile? What would be a good price point for that time of the year? Thank you.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Elle.
San Diego is your best bet rather than LAX. Also easier driving in our experience. Since you can flex one day, go 2/26 and return 3/4. Nonstop is $445 on Alaska and one stop is $366 on United. Great prices. Suggest buying now if that works.
Aloha.
Elle
Thank you for suggesting San Diego. The nonstop fare on Alaska for 2/26-3/4 out of San Diego is $560/person no matter which 1 day I flex. I am guessing that still is a good fare and should buy it now ?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi again Elle.
The lower fare we saw earlier looks to be gone now. Too bad. Yes probably a good idea to go ahead. The 1-stop alternative is a really great way to save $200, but it is so annoying to have that stop.
Aloha.
Shirley
Hi,
Looking to fly to Maui for a 3 day weekend to visit family. From LAX. No specific dates wanted so was wondering what’s the cheapest months to visit? Thank you
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Shirley.
The post contains all of the information we have regarding when to travel and when to buy for the cheapest airfares. Also sign up for our emails so you can get deal updates.

I just reserved the Hilton on the Big Island for my daughter and I. We have never been…we were thinking of going in Feb. Im trying to find cheapest flight….looks like cheapest for that time is roughly $800 round trip from NYC to OCG? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Nick.
Yes budgeting $800 is correct. Keep an eye on flight durations as the faster the connection the more you pay in most circumstances.
You will have to make a stop somewhere en route, so depending on airline preference, connections, etc., you have a lot of choice. Should have good pricing for February in next three months or so.
Aloha.

We are traveling from Las Vegas to Maui Friday Mar. 16, 2018 and returning to Las Vegas on Sat. Mar. 24, 2018. Checked on tickets, very pricey, over $1000.00. How long should we wait before purchasing tickets. There will be five of us.
Thank you.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Jan.
You’re traveling over Spring Break which is priced high, as expected. $804 on Hawaiian.
Aloha.
Andy S
Hi. Do you know if Hawaiian has plans to upgrade their old Boeing 767’s that fly from LAX to LIH ? The old entertainment systems are disappointing compared to their newer planes- Thanks for your great advice on Hawaii travel- Andy
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Andy.
Those should be replaced early in 2018 with their new single isle A321neo aircraft.
Aloha.

Planning on LAX to OGG 92617 returning 102..prices looking high right now..do you expect fares to go down? Mahalo!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Deanne.
About $560 which isn’t great. Could get better. Would wait since it is off-season and mid week.
Aloha.

I have a huge destination wedding I’ll be in on Oahu New Years Eve. Probably the worst time to fly for a good deal, but I am looking everywhere for the best possible deal. Any advice?
All the best,
Lauryn
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Lauryn.
You didn’t say where you are traveling from, but the suggestion remain the same. Fly on Christmas Eve or day for best pricing at the holidays.
Aloha.
Paula
Hi,
We are planning to go to Oahu Sept 16, 2017 then on to Maui and back home to Denver from Maui on the 24th. We’re looking at $874 right now and I’m wondering if that is a good price or if I should keep looking.
Thank you!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Paula.
$700 with fast connection. Not sure it will improve but there is no harm in waiting until up to a few weeks ahead as there will be little demand.
Aloha.

Hello!
Planning on going to Honolulu/Waikiki from Philadelphia in September 2017. I was told to buy tickets 3 months before the trip but tickets are more expensive now than when I looked in February-April. What should I do?
Autumn
Aloha!
I love your website! We would like to go to Maui from Los Angeles during the week of August 21st for a family of 4. I have found rates of $558 round trip. Have we waited to late to get a good deal? Or should we buy now. Thank you again for all of your great tips.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Autumn.
Thank you. Prices could come down – or might not for your dates. There probably is little harm in waiting however, so that’s what we’d suggest. Target price being about $500.
Aloha.

we are leaving sacramento feb2 2018 for 7 nights in maui. should we wait for a winter / early spring sale?
will the prices drop due to southwest flying early 2018? we are waiting until late summer to see what happens, good idea?
mahalo
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Mike.
Definitely don’t count on SWA for your dates. $362 1-stop or $484 nonstop. Excellent prices – wouldn’t wait.
Aloha.

Hi,
I’m looking to travel to Oahu in late November. Is this a good time to travel and are flights are reasonable during this time? I’ll be flying from New Orleans.
Olivia
We are planning a trip to Maui and Kauai in either May or Sep of 2018 from New York City. Which month, island and airline would you recommend? What would be a good price?
Thank you.
Olivia
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Olivia.
It doesn’t really matter as you’ll be using connecting flights no matter what airlines you choose. $800’s would be a good target.
Aloha.
Kalvin
Aloha. My wife and I would like to plan a trip to Kauai in May of 2018 from Dallas, Texas, flying out of DFW. I would like to ask you If May is outside of a peak season? We are looking at May to at least skip the high spring break season. Could you give me your thoughts on the cost of RT fare for me please? Mahalo
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Kalvin.
May is a good time in terms of pricing and fewer tourists. Target price of low $700’s.
Aloha.
Neil L
4 of us are planning a trip from Seattle to Kona late March through the 7th of April 2018. We have noticed that flights seem very expensive right now. We typically fly Alaska Air or Hawaiian Air. Are rates inflated because we are looking so far in advance? Or is it due to Spring Break? What should our target ticket prices be for these dates or should we book soon because they may go up or even sell out?
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Neil.
Spring break is a moving target but will definitely impact 2nd half of March and early April. That appears to be the problem and thus those dates may or may not ever go down. And yes they could go up or sell out.
Aloha.
Patti
Hi! We will be attending a conference the first week of January, 2018 on the Big Island, departing from Detroit (and 2 from Portland). Unfortunately – it is during a high demand time – but the thought of escaping Detroit in January is just heavenly! 🙂 Any suggestions on tickets – particularly out of Detroit? Thanks so much!!!
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Patti,
Prices that week vary depending on which day, but generally from $800 and up. Delta has the best fares as of today.
Aloha.
Landon
Hello me and my fiance are getting married new years and flying to Kauai January 2-9 2018 for honeymoon. Was wondering what the best time to get flights from IAH(Houston) to Lihue or cheapest way. It seems as of now everything is about 1100. Thank you
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Landon.
Departure is too close to holiday for better pricing. Lots of choices in the $900’s and fare is relation to how long it takes to get there. The faster the go, the more you pay.
Aloha.
Rick
Hello, flying from San Diego to Maui….just a short trip leaving Sept 9th returning the 14th. Alaska Airlines flies direct and currently priced at $598 round trip. Other airlines offer one stop one hour layover priced around $440 round trip if purchased now. Do you feel that’s my best bet to purchase now or should I wait? I realize you don’t have a crystal ball 🙂 but appreciate your expertise and recommendations. Thank you so very much.
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Rick.
Seems that the significant premium on nonstop will remain but to its limited availability. Thus not sure they will have need to lower the price, especially with a Saturday departure. Your dates are $412 with one-stop and that too probably won’t decrease.
Aloha.
Wendy
Aloha!
We are planning to return to either Oahu or Maui the 3rd or 4th week of April, 2018. We can leave from either Portland or Seattle but prefer Portland. When is the best time to buy?
Thank you!

Hi Wendy.
Start looking in September 2017.

Hello –
Please provide your suggestions for an intimate wedding location around the holidays in December. We will be traveling with 5 adults, 3 teenagers and 2 toddlers and looking for airfare and lodging deals – traveling from LA, Austin TX, Dallas TX.
This is the first trip to Hawaii and it’s for our wedding and family vacation for the holidays and want to make it fun for all.
Thanks!
Lisa
Beat of Hawaii
Hi Lisa.
That’s outside what we do here. There are a plethora of locations and officiants who can help guide you. You might start by narrowing it down to one island.

San Diego is your best bet rather than LAX. Also easier driving in our experience. Since you can flex one day, go 2/26 and return 3/4. Nonstop is $445 on Alaska and one stop is $366 on United. Great prices. Suggest buying now if that works.
Aloha.
Thank you for suggesting San Diego. The nonstop fare on Alaska for 2/26-3/4 out of San Diego is $560/person no matter which 1 day I flex. I am guessing that still is a good fare and should buy it now ?
Hi again Elle.
The lower fare we saw earlier looks to be gone now. Too bad. Yes probably a good idea to go ahead. The 1-stop alternative is a really great way to save $200, but it is so annoying to have that stop.
Aloha.
Hi,
Looking to fly to Maui for a 3 day weekend to visit family. From LAX. No specific dates wanted so was wondering what’s the cheapest months to visit? Thank you

Thank you.
Hi Jan.
You’re traveling over Spring Break which is priced high, as expected. $804 on Hawaiian.
Aloha.
Hi. Do you know if Hawaiian has plans to upgrade their old Boeing 767’s that fly from LAX to LIH ? The old entertainment systems are disappointing compared to their newer planes- Thanks for your great advice on Hawaii travel- Andy
Hi Andy.
Those should be replaced early in 2018 with their new single isle A321neo aircraft.
Aloha.
Planning on LAX to OGG 92617 returning 102..prices looking high right now..do you expect fares to go down? Mahalo!
Any advice?
All the best,
Lauryn
Hi Lauryn.
You didn’t say where you are traveling from, but the suggestion remain the same. Fly on Christmas Eve or day for best pricing at the holidays.
Aloha.
Hi,
We are planning to go to Oahu Sept 16, 2017 then on to Maui and back home to Denver from Maui on the 24th. We’re looking at $874 right now and I’m wondering if that is a good price or if I should keep looking.
Thank you!
Aloha!
I love your website! We would like to go to Maui from Los Angeles during the week of August 21st for a family of 4. I have found rates of $558 round trip. Have we waited to late to get a good deal? Or should we buy now. Thank you again for all of your great tips.
Hi Autumn.
Thank you. Prices could come down – or might not for your dates. There probably is little harm in waiting however, so that’s what we’d suggest. Target price being about $500.
Aloha.
aloha
we are leaving sacramento feb2 2018 for 7 nights in maui. should we wait for a winter / early spring sale?
will the prices drop due to southwest flying early 2018? we are waiting until late summer to see what happens, good idea?
mahalo
We are planning a trip to Maui and Kauai in either May or Sep of 2018 from New York City. Which month, island and airline would you recommend? What would be a good price?
Thank you.
Olivia
Hi Olivia.
It doesn’t really matter as you’ll be using connecting flights no matter what airlines you choose. $800’s would be a good target.
Aloha.
Mahalo
Hi Kalvin.
May is a good time in terms of pricing and fewer tourists. Target price of low $700’s.
Aloha.
Hi Neil.
Spring break is a moving target but will definitely impact 2nd half of March and early April. That appears to be the problem and thus those dates may or may not ever go down. And yes they could go up or sell out.
Aloha.
Hi Patti,
Prices that week vary depending on which day, but generally from $800 and up. Delta has the best fares as of today.
Aloha.
Hello me and my fiance are getting married new years and flying to Kauai January 2-9 2018 for honeymoon. Was wondering what the best time to get flights from IAH(Houston) to Lihue or cheapest way. It seems as of now everything is about 1100. Thank you
Hi Landon.
Departure is too close to holiday for better pricing. Lots of choices in the $900’s and fare is relation to how long it takes to get there. The faster the go, the more you pay.
Aloha.
Hi Rick.
Seems that the significant premium on nonstop will remain but to its limited availability. Thus not sure they will have need to lower the price, especially with a Saturday departure. Your dates are $412 with one-stop and that too probably won’t decrease.
Aloha.
Aloha!
We are planning to return to either Oahu or Maui the 3rd or 4th week of April, 2018. We can leave from either Portland or Seattle but prefer Portland. When is the best time to buy?
Thank you!
Hi Wendy.
Start looking in September 2017.
Aloha.
Thanks!
Lisa
Hi Lisa.
That’s outside what we do here. There are a plethora of locations and officiants who can help guide you. You might start by narrowing it down to one island.
Aloha.
