  1. Hi! I really appreciate all of your updates! We’re looking to fly from either LA or Long Beach to Maui in August. I’d like to book our condo now and wait for the best flight deals to come but I’m wondering if there’s a magic date in August where the high season is considered over? We’re flexible (ish) but the kids go back to school 8/18. Thanks for any advice!

    1. Hi Tracy.

It looks like August 11 or so might be the magic date for prices to go down. And of course weekends will remain higher.

      Aloha.

  2. Aloha! We are traveling from the PHL area to Kauai in mid August(2020). We want to stop in Oahu for a couple of days to see Pearl Harbor otw. I’ve been reading your comments and signed up for alerts, but not sure if it’s cheaper to try and fly direct to Oahu or to fly somewhere in CA, THEN fly to Oahu. We plan on staying 2 nights then hopping to Kauai for the rest of the trip. Can you recommend the best economical way fly? We’re def Ok doing ‘one-way’ trips. Thanks in advance!

    1. Hi Vette.

Generally it is problematic to include a stopover unless it is true stopover, that due to luggage checking and possible security re-screening. Not likely to save money either.

It looks like the price will be in the $600’s RT plus the inter-island. Probably best to book about 3 months in advance.

      Aloha.

    2. We hadn’t even considered the luggage going from Oauhu to Kauai (inter-island), thanks for that tip. Thanks much – Hau’oli Makahiki Hou!

  3. I am looking for flights from Phoenix to Maui or Honolulu either Oct 3 to Oct 10 or Oct 4 to October 11? But is something going on since the airfares seem very high.

    1. Yes, there seems to be a ‘sellers game’ now. Nothing different. As usual, you have to do the time to get the tickets that work for you.

  4. I’m looking for fares out to LA in early April. Most of the sales I have been seeing historically involve the Bay Area -> Hawaiian islands routes. Do you anticipate seeing these “airfare wars” extending to additional routes?

  5. Hello,

Can you please tell me the best options to fly from DTW to HNL? I have tried numerous options. For example, splitting the reservations (DTW – OAK, then OAK – HNL), one-way, etc. I still find the cost is over $1800 for all airlines. We are looking to fly from May 24, 2020 – May 31, 2020. Is this typical due to Memorial Day?

    Thank you for your help!

    Mahalo!

    1. Hi Nikki.

About $750 RT for your dates. Other dates are as little as about $500 this winter and that could extend until Spring. But you are flying on holiday weekend. Not sure your dates will improve.

      Aloha.

      1. Hello,

I am planning to fly from Oakland, CA or San Francisco to Honolulu on September 24, 2020. How do I go about booking with this deal?

  6. I have a condo booked for Maui for the week of Thanksgiving Sat-Sat and I almost exclusively fly southwest. They aren’t showing any dates outside of August yet should I wait or search on the other airlines? Traveling from Austin, Tx. Please and Thank you for your advice.

    1. Hi Renee.

That’s your call. Those dates will be released soon so you can wait if you want to fly SWA. Or book sooner with another carrier (you’ll have to wait a few more days to be within any carrier 330 day booking window. Either way will be expensive for those dates. Perhaps $900 RT.

      Aloha.

  7. Looking for flights to Maui from Chattanooga Tn or Atlanta GA … june 10 thru the 24th… little bit of flex for the dates but for sure needed in June. Condo is booked already.

  8. Southwest ONLY goes to Hawaii from California. To do another flight you have to call and set up to travel from your point to California then from there to Hawaii. You cannot do it online.

  9. Looking for flights from SMF Sacramento to KOA Kona in June, taking grandaughter for High School graduation. No deals yet, should I hold off till April/ May for deals?
