  1. Hello,

We are looking for flights from Phoenix to Kona round trip from 8/7 to 8/13. Is it best to fly directly to Kona, or fly to Honolulu instead, and then to Kona… for cost purposes. Any suggestions on finding the best deals? We need flights for 7 of us.

    Thanks!
    Erica

    1. Hi Erica,

Not worth the hassle or expense of separate tickets. About $750 right now on American or if you can fly 8/8-8/14 then about $100 less still same carrier. Not expecting any improvement.

      Aloha.

  2. Hi! I haven’t taken a vacation in years and finally decided to take my daughter to Hawaii.
We’ll fly from SLC to Maui in the fall. The best price I’ve seen is $574 round trip per person flying in to Kahului (through Delta). Is this a decent price or should I wait it out? I don’t know what I’m doing 🙁

    Thank you!

    1. Hi Jessica,

Yes high $500’s is what we’re seeing right now. We suspect that it might get better – say by $50 or so if you wait. And there’s no harm in waiting since availability will not be a concern. Be patient (the airlines are counting on our having no patience.

      Aloha.

      1. I will have patience and watch the prices like a hawk. Thank you for your timely response. I appreciate it!

  3. Hello,

I am searching for deals from Houston to Honolulu in September. Do you suggest I wait for better deals? Thanks!!

    1. Hi Binal,

$900 right now either nonstop or with a good connection. Gut call is to wait with a target price of $800 or less. No harm in waiting for low season.

      Aloha.

  4. Hello! We are looking for airfare for 2 adults and 3 children. We are flying to Honolulu the week of June 27th and staying until July 13th or so? Which airline do you suggest? Which airport would better San Diego, Orange County or LAX? Which day should we fly and can we avoid super long layovers and still save money? Thank you in advance for your help! I’m planning on booking this week!

  5. I think you are doing a great job. Will surely consult you on my next planned visit to Hawaii.

  6. Hello,

My family and I are planning a trip to Hawaii Dec. 17 through the 21st. We will be traveling from Dallas and need to go to Honolulu. Virgin, which is our preferred airline, doesn’t list any fares for this route beyond 12/14. Do you think we should just wait and watch for them to post their fares or go ahead and book with another airline? Or maybe we are just looking way too soon? I would be so grateful for any advice you could offer.

    Thank you,

    Kelly

    1. Hi Kelly.

Yes suggest waiting on Virgin America. That route is fairly competitive and you should be fine. We did see the same issue and you might want to call to ask when that can be booked online as it is rather unusual, with most airlines booking 330 days in advance.

      Aloha.
